Yesterday, Metamask launched the beta phase of its new feature, Metamask Snaps, opening the door to non-EVM blockchain interaction from the wallet.
Snaps are software modules that can be integrated into the MetaMask wallet for different add-on use cases, such as making the wallet compatible across multiple blockchain ecosystems with specialized code.
Here's a short video presentation of the new feature.
Initially, there are 34 Snaps offering you several options but there are two of them I am especially interested in, Shapeshift Multichain which offers a way to swap coins from different chains using the decentralized Thorchain protocol.
And Zion BTCSnap, which allows users to directly manage Bitcoin from Metamask.
I can't wait to see the first developed snaps offering Hive interoperability with Metamask. Here's a longer video explaining how Metamask Snap technology works.
