Blockchain is a technology that has been disruptive for the society for all the solutions it offers, it has changed the way we relate and exchange value and much more. Knowing the consensus protocols and how the blockchain behaves allows you to understand how you can get involved in these ecosystems, how you can participate or invest.
Let's talk for example about the most known coin in the blockchain world, this coin runs on the Bitcoin blockchain and its consensus protocol is Proof of Work (PoW) is achieved by mining the coin with computer equipment available to the network. This type of consensus is vulnerable if it receives a 51% attack, i.e. more than 50% of miners agree, which is considered quite difficult due to anonymity, the large number of people who are bitcoin miners, and human distrust. However, this is a risk of systems under PoW protocol.
On the other hand, in 2014 Dan Larimer introduced the concept of democracy to the blockchain system, devising a new consensus protocol for the decentralized blockchain Bitshares. Thanks to this we know the Proof of Stake (DPOS), a system where users elect the block producers of their network or master nodes.
Currently, many Blockchain platforms run under the DPOS system, the proof of consensus or proof of stake protocol, where the mining and growth system is different, you must-have part of the stake. Some examples of this system are Hive, EOS, and many more. A case example of the vulnerability that these ecosystems can have is the attack that the Steem blockchain received when Justin Sun bought the social network Steemit. Due to this attack, the community decided to fork and Hive was born, being Hive a legitimate Blockchain where provisions have been made for this kind of attacks.
Consensus protocols and governance systems are very studied today, we are establishing new behaviors in society. As I highlighted at the beginning, before investing or getting involved in a blockchain system it is very important to know how it works, how its system is managed, what are its risks, and what are the benefits it offers.

¿Por qué conocer los protocolos de consenso de Blockchain?
La Blockchain es una tecnología que ha sido disruptiva para la sociedad por todas las soluciones que ofrece, ha cambiado la forma de relacionarnos e intercambiar valor y muchos más. Conocer los protocolos de consenso y la forma como se comporta la blockchain te permite comprender de qué manera puedes involucrarte en estos ecosistemas, como puedes participar o invertir.
Hablemos por ejemplo de la moneda más conocida en el mundo blockchain, esta moneda corre en la blockchain Bitcoin y su protocolo de consenso es de Prueba de Trabajo (PoW) se logra minar la moneda con equipo de cómputo a disposición de la red. Este tipo de consenso es vulnerable si recibe un ataque del 51%, es decir que más del 50% de los mineros se pongan de acuerdo, cosa que se considera bastante difícil debido al anonimato, la gran cantidad de personas que son mineros bitcoin y a la desconfianza humana. Sin embargo, este es un riesgo de los sistemas bajo protocolo PoW.

Actualmente existen muchas plataformas Blockchain que corren bajo el sistema de DPOS, el protocolo de prueba de consenso o prueba de participación, donde el sistema de minado y crecimiento es diferente, debes tener parte de la participación. Algunos ejemplos de este sistema es Hive, EOS y muchas más. Un caso de ejemplo de la vulnerabilidad que pueden tener estos ecosistemas es el ataque que recibió la blockchain de Steem cuando Justin Sun compró la red social Steemit. Debido a este ataque la comunidad decidió bifurcar y nació Hive, siendo Hive una Blockchain legitima donde se han tomado previsiones para este tipo de ataques.
Los protocolos de consenso y sistemas de gobernanzas son muy estudiados hoy día, estamos estableciendo nuevos comportamientos en la sociedad. Como resalté al inicio, antes de invertir o involucrarte en un sistema blockchain es muy importante conocer cómo funciona, como se maneja su sistema, cuales son sus riesgos y cuales son los beneficios que ofrece.
