My Journey: Splinterlands (Part 2) The Original KickStarter

Just days ago I shared a quick intro on how I got started with Splinterlands. Today I decide to expand on a specific aspect of that Journey that I didn't mention in my original post. One that I'm sure many of you OG Splinterland players remember very well. One that started this amazing Journey into the Splinterverse for many. One that made people massive amounts of ROI. That something is The first KickStarter and the Buzz that surrounded it. The Kickstarter itself was a huge success and had multiple faucets to it. Included private deals and a cryptocurrency version of the same deals we are about to highlight. However for this post we will focus on the Kickstarter named Steemmonsters (Splinterlands original name) that was designed to bring in fiat investors/players. These numbers I'm about to share with you might seem small now but at the time they were huge and brought nothing but positive vibes among the Splinterlands community. First what is a Kickstarter campaign?

Kickstarter campaigns make ideas into reality. It's where creators share enw visions for creative work with the communities that will come together to fund them.

Some of these creators like Critical Role, TLC and the Smithsonian Institution already had huge fanbases. Bug many projects have been as small-scale as a limited run of silent meditation vinyls or as up-and-coming as early versions of Issa Rae's Insecure and Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Fleabag.

No matter what, creators always control how the work comes together, no 100-page gran applications, no donors demanding you modify your message, no last-minute edits from investors. When backers chip in funding and help spread the word, they too become part of these independent works.

In short Kickstarter is a place entrepreneurs/businesses go to share their idea/product/image with the public and seek those who might want to invest in such things.

At which price point did your ol pal rentmoney jump in. Looks down at the ground, kicks a few rocks and sheepishly says, I don't remember. I'm almost certain it was the $200 level (or was that the second kickstarter; a post for another time) but don't quote me on that. I (as I am sure many others) certainly wish I jumped in at the higher levels as the value in them were nothing short of insane. Lets go over what was offered at the $25 Level. For those who invested just $25 in return they received: (1) Account Creation (2) Starter Pack (Know known as the Spellbook) (3) 10 Alpha Booster Packs (4) Kickstarter Exclusive Dragon Whelpling Runt (5) Kickstarter Exclusive Dragon Whelpling Runt Common Gold Foil Card. Just look at all that stuff for just $25, as I said; an insane amount of value. Ten Alpha Packs alone are worth $690 USD in todays market. Don't believe me take a look for yourself (Screenshot/URL Below).

As much as I would like to continue talking about the Kickstarter and the amazing value it provided to everyone who participated I will have to get back on topic (My Journey). The second pivotal event that kept me coming back to Splinteralnds was that very *First Alpha Pack I opened (don't underestimate the power of opening packs). There was a card in it that I still hold to this day. That card was the Alpha Legendary Gold Dragon and it turned GOLD. It just goes to show that you can get insane ROI from just purchasing and opening one pack. At the time I had no clue how rare this card was and would further become. In fact its so rare that today (11/10/2023) you couldn't purchase one if you tried because there isn't any listed for sale. I don't think there is a value in which I would part with it although there was times I seen Alpha GFL sell for thousands of dollars and that made it very tempting for me to list it for sale. I opted to place it on the Rental Market instead and that is where it sits until this day; calmly waiting on a master to call upon it to destroy its enemies!

Gold Dragon Lore

There is only one living Golden Dragon, and he presides over the great Dragon Congress. His magic and armor are the greatest, and only the Hydra has put his mettle to the test. Suam Khepri, the leader of the united Gloridax, is always on the lookout for the next Gold Dragon, which prophecy says will hatch in these times.
