Scrap my enthusiasm

I will be the first to say that I dislike doing an effort unless it is interesting.

Things are mainly interesting while they are new.

This simple mechanic of human behaviour has surely cost me a lot. Since I don't particularly have the threat of not eating if I don't stack every cent.

As mentioned many times before I also struggle with long-term planning. If there is no sense of urgency I tend to get lost in the weeds.

The drag of Play 2 Earn

It is something I always revisit and as much as my interest and focus come in waves the tide is surely getting lower with each iteration.

A new game which I think has followed the correct path by having a minimum viable but working product is TerraCore. So far it seems rather simple, you get some of the token over time and if you use that to improve stats you can rob others tokens before they have the chance to store them.

Since I am only ever getting robbed I don't know how you rob others but what I do know is that I can't really be arsed with the whole having to check in 5 times a day.

This is obviously just me, and another that I find I really have lost my patience for is RisingStar.

I don't have anything against these types of games and I get the premise, I just find that over time I strongly push against the mental load of having to be bothered whether it is time to click a button yet.

The only other play2earn game I have actively running now is Splinterlands, but obviously since the bot plays that it hardly concerns. Sure that goes against what gaming is, why even play really?

Simple, because rewards.

How much mental load and time are those worth? Well I think I have answered that already.

Not much. What is worth to me is what I have and not what I may receive.

I think this is also why incentives do not tend to work too well for me.

I do like playing on Immortal Chess but again it this crazy grind, not to mention in a game I absolutely suck so not trying to make as much as possible there is a obvious choice.

Maybe it all sounds rather negative on play to earn?

Not really, it is just how I play, in the end the earn has to be seen as a bonus. For me at least.

Although I don't get engrossed by achieving some mega token status in these games, firstly because especially if the game is new unless you get in and out you will lose all supposed value in a blink of an eye.

Secondly, gunning for tokens as a main premise seems to be one of the main reasons many are just not fun.

If something is not going to deliver the basic requirements of entertainment then how long would even the most reasonable token price maintain it?

Possibly a token price can ensure that something at least stagnates so long it feels like home; But a lack of player sense of achievement and mastery will cap potential growth.

This is crypto though, it is not supposed to be fun; Fair enough.

Myself to blame

Obviously all I have mentioned is based on my own way of engaging with things.

I won't particularly like all games or projects but will take part because I am greedy and want to earn.

So although I am getting more and more discerning about where I invest my time even if it means losing, I don't think I am losing as much as all the noise might make ne want to believe.

I find that a good thing to remember, there is no point to causing yourself stress over some bullshit that promises riches but inadvertently demands your focus unreserved.

Obviously the above games mentioned do not do that, they are but idle little games. Set and forget even if you like.

But as the landscape grows I think it is a good reminder even just for myself that these things are no different from some casino app or micro-transaction game; Albeit they do give a return which in the end might cost you even more.

As it goes, to get a big favour you start by asking small ones.
