What Is GHAWG?
#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.

| After Lindsay removed the black bloc for good, Rhonda & I looked at each other. Until then, Lindsay was either beaten to a pulp and unrecognizeable or was dressed in black bloc. This is the first time we saw how Lindsay looked. |

| 🏍️ When we first saw Lindsay left for dead by the side of the road in Iowa, Lindsay was barely recognizable as a person. At that time, the priority for Daid Guardia and Rhonda Bella was to get Lindsay to the hospital for immediate care. What Lindsay looked like normally wasn't on their minds then. So this was not only the first time they see Lindsay look normal, it's the first time they notice that Lindsay was a young woman. |

| 🏍️ Given David Guardia's traditional upbringing-- Latin family, very likely Roman Catholic, son of a Marine-- it wouldn't be surprising to see him react judgmentally toward Lindsay since they were (on the surface, anyway) polar opposites. Yet he knows enough to let Lindsay have her shot at redemption and to have a chance to start a new life. As far as he's concerned, that second chance for Lindsay starts in Riverside, California, US. |

🏍️ When you need drama, it doesn't get better than the Dramatic Squirrel-- 🏍️ It's been a while since we last saw David Guardia playing UNO. Whe he last played with the uncanny Manny Rey, it was David's deck they were using. In this case, it would have been quicker to draw sticks to see who ends up the the short one. However, by playing UNO all players (David, Rhonda, and Lindsay) get time to bond with each other and learn more about each other. It also gives Lindsay a chance to see David in a different way. |

| SEATTLE -- An outdoor concert ended in tragedy when concert lighting caught fire and came crashing down. People stampeded out of the concert, killing 13 people. Among the dead were the City Attorney and the Council President. |

| 🏍️ This is the first bonus entry which shows the aftermath of David Guardia's prophesying in Seattle. Part of his message was to offer the city officials a chance to do the right thing by the people or else they would suffer from their failure to do so. With this bonus entry, we can see that the city officials failed to heed his words. This is the beginning of the prophecy being realized. |

| After regrouping, we took US-20 from Corvallis all the way to Newport. There we switch to US-101; while in Oregon, it's known mainly as the Oregon Coast Highway. Until reaching San Diego, I had to rely on Harry to guide us. |

| 🏍️ Much of Lindsay's interaction will be with these people, so this sets up the relationships they establish with each other. All are closer to Lindsay's age, so it makes sense that she spend more time with them and get to know them better. 🏍️ Due to the limitations of the zapfic format, I wasn't able to include last names for these characters. Sanjay Rampersad is a classmate of Lionel Odunsi at UNC Chapel Hill. Hank Marchenko and Frank Marchenko (when I'm not calling them "Hank & Frank," sometimes I call them "The Brothers Marchenko," following the title of the novel "The Brothers Karamazov" by Fyodor Dostoevsky). More about Hank & Frank is revealed in the next set of zapfic entries. |

Story Arc So Far
Our Heroes-- including Lindsay Etxeberria-- leave Portland behind them and regroup for the next phase of the long ride: hugging the Pacific Coast from Oregon down through California to San Diego. With Portland and its related tensions now in the past, the group has another reset in mood and outlook.
Lindsay sleeps the night in a room with David Guardia and Rhonda Bella before meeting Sanjay Rampersad, Lionel Odunsi, and the Brothers Marchenko the next day. As the story unfolds, more attention will be given to these characters.
