What is Hive.blog? Long story short it's a blockchain based social media platform in development with the ability to post long form articles, video, micro blogging or participate in the many interactive apps always sprouting up. The eco-system allow for developers to build their apps or projects to move the community forward. We are not a corporation owned entity, we are the free world, we moderate ourselves as a community and is a community owned project proving we can work together from all around the world each contributing free lance style in our own way.
Unless you have been hiding under a rock, most of you have heard of Bitcoin by now or the word cryptocurrency? Hive is also a crypto attached to our social interactions and is earned with community involvement from actions like creating content or simply leaving a comment or an "up-vote" aka "like" similar to the reddit point system. The Hive eco-system is the perfect place to come learn about this new concept of digital micro-finance and opinions from seasoned members in the Leo Finance and Hive community.
How is the Hive token mined? With our social interactions. Bitcoin requires expensive hardware capable of doing complicated mathematic equations meanwhile on Hive, every time we post something our content gets up-voted, new inflation is distributed based on the stake of each community member. The after 7 days, the community agreed value payouts appear and one can chose to stake tokens for more governance and additional inflation bonus similar to interest along with creating greater value in your network long term by increasing your vote value or cash-out for short term revenue.
Currently the token doesn't hold a high value like Bitcoin or Ethereum but if you wish you could have gotten in Bitcoin when it was under a dollar? How about you can now mine by being social and having fun, what a concept! We were part of a different project and have now started fresh on our own about 11 months ago and have a new direction and an exciting roadmap for the future with Leo's anticipated microblogging app similar to twitter. As innovation continue to be announced in the coming months, the token value will rise with each successful project launch.
On top of earning Hive tokens, other experiments are always in progress via Hive-Engine offering something we call "airdrops" based on community involvement, some worthless while others like Leo took off like a rocket in price. An other example, part of each original Hive member from the old community got our stake airdropped when we separated now having 2 separate tokens for the same effort. Since these projects are open source and the template for many other projects, the stake gets replicated because it creates a token base and attracts other blockchain users to begin building a social network. Often the hive community is a great place to find out about these sometimes valuable airdrops and crypto projects.
What caused us to separate from the former project? Decentralization (community ownership) came under attack by a large corporate entity and tried to hijack our community values and direction using frowned upon means to do it (to put it lightly). We risked token value to remain community owned and censorship resistant. We do moderate and have certain community etiquettes to follow that change with the times as the community evolves and tries to make this experiment a success. An account cannot be deleted or disappear, even content disliked by the community can still be viewed. Censorship resistance is becoming an important asset as modern platform try to control the narrative.
What is the importance of decentralization of information and finance in the digital world? It's no secret that the scales have been tipped heavily towards a select few that get to decide what information is consumed by most of us or what we can post. Targeted by a news feed with nothing but ads, with the new anti-trust information, facebook and google share 85% of the ad market monopoly by selling your data to anyone who wants it like a collection center. Do you get paid for that? But it's your data, why not? Even if it's family pics in the garden, it's still yours to sell not theirs. Don't settle for being stalked by ads and your content sold to third parties without your consent for free!
For over 4 years counting the old platform with this project, even with it's low token value, it has helped people from all over the world create better circumstances for themselves by blogging, interacting or building here creating an income stream or a means to accumulate stake/ownership into something meaningful that could generate income in the future while getting a chance to try your luck at accumulating a low value token with huge potential for future gains in the coming years.
