Interesting take on the Human/Money Dynamic

"Getting your moneys worth"

The phrase "getting your money's worth" is something we have heard time and time again. It also shows a flaw in the dynamic between Humans and Money. This is an idea I've had floating around in my head for years. I would love to hear what others think, any input would be helpful. Hoping to mabey change my view on things I guess lol

I first saw the flaw in this phrase with people at resorts, myself included. I believe we are living in a world where we value money higher then alot of important things, but also higher then ourselves. Things line up when though, when money is so entwined with every aspect in life. We could talk about generational wealth and how that could factor in, but alas we will stick to that basic instinct. The gut feeling of trying to get your moneys worth.

Honestly, attempts at getting your moneys worth often boils down to unwanted self-harm. On a larger scale, it can hurt other people. Alot of people tend to prioritize getting the most value for their money over just about anything, including their own health and well-being. For the example of a resort, some people may feel pressure to consume large amounts of food and alcohol in order to feel like they are getting their money's worth. This can lead to negative consequences for both physical and mental health. The pressure to "get your money's worth" can also lead people to ignore their own internal cues and needs, further exacerbating the potential harm caused by overindulgence.

The idea of getting your money's worth can also create a sense of entitlement, where individuals feel that they deserve to consume as much, or hoard as they want because they have paid for it. This can lead to an unhealthy relationship with resorses and other people. This mentality is bound to create a culture of waste, excess, and unproportional needs met. I believe it also creates a subconscious divide between anything from nations, all the way down to neighbours.

Getting your money's worth can also create a zero-sum mentality in which people view financial transactions as a competition, not a collaboration. This leads to situations where people are primarily focused on getting the best deal for themselves, rather than considering the needs and interests of the other party involved in the transaction. This can, and I believe does, and has been for quite some time, hinders societal and technological progress. Advancement of the human race is a low priority vs advancement of self. It's scary because I think both Humans and Corporations are guilty of this.

Just some food for thought...

I can say as of today, I swear off ever saying "get my moneys worth" again. F that phrase and the horse it rode in on. Cheers!
