Hive, anniversaries, community and collaboration

Power Up Day collaboration .png

It's the eve of my fifth anniversary - yes, five years - on the blockchain. I guess, you could almost call me one of the old ladies of the blockchain. (I would not...). I joined in July 2017 - on the 21st to be precise - and on the original iteration of this blockchain. It's been quite a journey, and that's a story for another time. Mostly.

To celebrate my third anniversary on the blockchain, I decided that it was time to start paying it forward and helping redfish. Having become a regular participant in @streetstyle's monthly power up day, and seen its value, Power Up Day seemed the logical vehicle to do this. As Street's been AWOL for about as long (and I continue to send him and his family best wishes), @traciyork has taken over the reins and grown the initiative into what it is today, by involving @hivebuzz and growing the number of good folk who sponsor prizes.

Numbers sometimes count

I suppose I should have kept a record of the redfish to whom I have delegated over the last two years. Yes, I still am in contact with some - I'll come back to this, but first: a rather staggering number (to me, anyway):

7,200

That is the total amount of Hive that I have delegated to redfish since that July. Theoretically, that should be 72 redfish, but it wasn't. Let me explain:

The beneficiaries of my delegations are selected from accounts that participate in #HivePud, and who Traci identifies with the help of, as she calls him, numbers man @abh12345 (who lives in one of my dream destinations...).

When Traci is about to publish her final results post, she also sends me a list of accounts that meet the basic criteria of age and HP, and then I go through them to see if they meet my additional criteria (see below).

Over the time, there have been accounts that have benefitted more than once from my delegations. It's always a particular pleasure to know that the support is put to good use and then it's even more heartwarming (and that's not a strong enough word), when a past beneficiary comments on my June delegation post:

Hi Fiona, this is such a good initiative, and it helped me so much at the time. In a month it's my official anniversary at Hive, and I'm thinking about giving back some of the help I've received. I'll ask you in a couple of weeks to see what you suggest.

So, a couple of days ago, @coquicoin DM-d me with this:

On July 5th it will be 1 year since I registered on Hive although I started to be active later. But as I told you before I want to give back some of the help I received.
I was thinking of giving two 100HP delegations. But I would like to do it like you do to the redfish and not in a general draw as Traci does. So I thought.

  • I can delegate to the same people that you select in your draw 100 HP if that's ok with you.

My answer?

And then Eli said:

As you do delegations to three people, then I would match it.

What a privilege and an honour to be able to collaborate with @coquicoin to give even more support to noobs joining the Hive. And with someone who's a respected and active member of a number of communities, including the Silver Bloggers who are also close to my heart. It also means that with her help, we can extend this support to members of the Hispanic community given my large Spanish vocabulary that consists of ola and ...umm... nada ...

This is what Eli said when I asked her for a few words to include in this announcement:

As my 1st anniversary on Hive is a few days away, one of the ways I'd like to celebrate it is by giving back to the community and helping those who participate in the HivePUD. And I can't think of a better way to do it than in collaboration with Fiona, who helps Redfish starting in the Hive. I was one of those who received help from her, not once but twice. So starting in July's Hive PUD, I will give each of the Hivers who get favored by Fiona's initiative a 100 HP delegation for the same period she gives it.

July Hive Power Up Day is approaching

All that's a very long-winded way of saying that for July, my usual delegation of 300 HP will go ahead and that delegation will be doubled by @coquicoin's matching delegations. That means 200 HP each to redfish accounts that meet the basic Power Up Day Criteria as well as these additional criteria:

Eligible accounts must also be -

  • be less than 6 months old
  • have at least two qualifying posts since the previous power up day.
Posts that qualify must have 200 words or more and exclude posts for Power Up Day, as well as which are specific to Actifit and gaming.
  • a reputation of less than 61
  • not more than 500 HP in their accounts before they power up - both on the first of the month

As a reminder, the the second criterion is because Hive is a community -

Hive is a social blockchain: it's for socialising, ruminating and just generally hanging out.

And that's not all -

Every account that participates in Power Up Day, and does so regularly, stands a chance of receiving a delegation from @hivebuzz - in addition to a bee badge. Check this out for the full buzz.

Now, back to our contribution:

What happens if no accounts qualify?

Thanks for asking, and yes it does happen as it did last month. I always say, I don't make decisions on my own, so if, as has happened in the past, there are "slim pickings", I will be working via Traci who is also with the @ocd and @lovesniper noob curation initiatives. That won't change, nor will our continuing to keep an eye out for those noobs who fall into the Silver Bloggers' league and who have joined that community. What we will now be able to do is include Spanish speaking bloggers, and I'm indebted to Eli for helping to make the circle bigger. What will also not change, and which began in June was working with @zakludick to identify deserving members of his class of 2022.

Delegating is not enough

Remember that in addition to the delegations, I add these accounts to my fanbase so that they receive a daily 100% upvote (if my voting power is still more than 90%; if it's not, I do try to manually upvote (qualifying) posts.

That's my intention, but as I've mentioned, RL is getting the better of my virtual one at the moment. This is also why I ask @ginabot to notify me each time they post. If I have an opportunity, I do pop over and have a gander and, occasionally, either weigh in on whatever the post may be about, and/or reblog it.

Also, a word of warning to @edittasc86, @pixelhuntersam and @clairemobey: I have cancelled my delegation to you to be able to allocate it to three new redfish.

See you on Hive Power Up Day, 1 July 2022.

PS Thank you for @doze for that lovely text divider. Do pop over and check out his posts for fabulous free to use Hive graphics and animations.

Until next time, be well

If this post might seem familiar, it's because I'm doing two things:

  • re-vamping old recipes. As I do this, I am adding them in a file format that you can download and print. If you download recipes, buy me a coffee. Or better yet, a glass of wine....?
  • and "re-capturing" nearly two years' worth of posts.
I blog to the Hive blockchain using a number of decentralised appplications.
  • From Wordpress, I use the Exxp Wordpress plugin. If this rocks your socks, click here or on on the image below to sign up.

  • Join Hive using this link and then join us in the Silver Bloggers' community by clicking on the logo.

    • I am participating in the twice-yearly initiative to post a blog a day for a month on the Hive blockchain.

    • I also share my occasional Instagram posts to the crypto blockchain, Hive.
