There will be bad days and good days. Embrace the good days. On the bad days, reach out. Often people want to help, but are afraid of making things worse (they don't realize that after the worst has already happened, there is not much left to dread) so be specific. Examples: Could you join me for a walk? Help me put some pictures in albums? Just sit with me for an hour? People respond to specific requests, in my experience.
