The shortage mentality

I am also one of those people who complain a lot about the government because of the kind of environment I was brought up. It kinda depends so much on the government and whenever they don’t have anything, they have to shift the blame on the government. This mentality affected me because I was waiting for the government to do everything, but the older I get the more realize that the government is not coming to save you and also when I look deep into this mentality, I realize it has always been like that and the government is the cause of it.

during the campaign of election, one thing I realized is that most politicians make promises to the people according to what they need, they make so many promises they know that the citizens lack and they create some kind of belief that they are the only ones who can solve their problem. if you listen to election campaigns long enough you will be carried away by the fact that 70% of the things politicians promise are out of reach but they say all these things because they know that is what we want to hear.

The main reason why most Africans can’t dream is because their leaders make them believe without them they can't be successful.

The simple truth about everything is that everything most politicians promised are the things we can do for ourselves and this is one of those things I love about a tribe in Nigeria called the Igbos. this tribe doesn’t wait for any government. They have always gone into business, become successful, and go back to the village to teach their families the same business without waiting for any government to help them but it’s a different case in most places in Africa because we only complain about the government and we can do better for ourselves and the first thing is to remove the mentality.

they fail to do something that benefits the citizens because immediately the citizens can think on their own it becomes difficult for them to pass on this mentality, but when there is hardship, it is easy for this mentality to strive, most people grow up in Africa believing that government can solve all their problems and it makes it easy for the government to be in ruling power because people only look up to them. People can’t think of their own, they continue in the same circle. Most children now see their parents complaining about the government inherit the same mentality.

Things are changing but democracy makes it difficult

the truth of the matter is most Africans now know that the government is playing games and they are not ready to do something significant for the citizens but people that know the truth is not up to 30% of the population and the remaining 80% are struggling and that’s why you see during the elections some politician still pay people to vote for them. Some people dedicate their time to orientate people on radio stations that they should not collect money from any politicians, but the narrative is not changing. I heard people saying that the small amount of money they collect during the election is the only thing they will see in four years which is terrible.

During the last election in Nigeria, so many people wanted to make a change, but the larger population struggled, and that is why democracy is difficult the majority will always win the vote, and the majority of Nigeria is in extreme poverty, the government knows that they need is the mentality and some money during the election, which is why it is becoming difficult in places like Nigeria to move forward. we must orientate people that they can do great for themselves without the government because doing this will make it easy for us to clear out of the mentality, but as long as we are still depending on them and having a shortage mentality it will be very difficult to win the government when they have the larger population by their side.

Thanks for your time.
