Cryptocurrency Spotlight : Lets Look at Some Tokens :
>> Ripple (XRP) <<

What's good Friends.

Centralized versus decentralized. this is the main battle cry of a lot of crypto evangelists. They say that the crypto market should all be decentralized not owned or maintained by any one organization.

However, the benefits of using block chain technology are many, such as easy audible trails, fast transaction times, and convenience to name a few. Given the many benefits of block chain technology, it was only a matter time before we started to see a centralized version of crypto. Along comes Ripple.

This token is at its heart, a gross settlement system for payments, both locally and across borders that operates in real-time... but centralized.

let's get to it.

Token Information :

Market data at time of writing

..
Market Cap$11,625,208,646 USD : 707,436 BTC
Volume (24h)$2,431,210,192 USD :147,948 BTC
Circulating Supply45,312,488 : 850 XRP
Total Supply99,990,859,785 XRP
Max Supply100,000,000,000 XRP

Why is this token interesting :

Currently, Ripple is listed as the fourth most popular crypto token in terms of market cap. Mentioned above, this token is centralized (this has designated is debated by some). However Ripple is a privately owned company that is responsible for the development and issuing, and ongoing issuing of the XRP token.

Ripple entered the scene around 2012, and after, this token took a top places in the crypto market. The main thrust behind this project, was that it is here to facilitate instant, low cost cross-border payments that are secure.

It is important to note at this point that the "Ripple platform", this is an open-source, decentralized project that anyone could download. The native token on the ripple platform is XRP.

Most people do tend to put "Ripple" and "XRP" is in the same basket, however they are two different entities. Namely, with Ripple being the company that created the "Ripple network" and the "XRP" utility token news or transferring digital assets. You trade XRP, not Ripple.

At the time of writing this there are 100 billion XRP tokens. Being that XRP is a token for the Ripple company, there is little to prevent Ripple from issuing additional tokens. This is in contrast to how bitcoin or other tokens operate by being minded.

Ripple is an interesting token with a lot of use cases but, a lot of controversy. Will it become the main use token for cross-border payments or will eventually fade away and be replaced by another competitor, only time will tell.

What do you say?
