If you live here in the USA, you most likely are one of the millions of people who have fallen prey to thinking that college was the only option for living life as an adult.

Senior year in high school is when teachers are instructed to all but force you to fill out the FAFSA and decide where you will go to school. The entire class does it together and they make sure you submit your application without putting up a fight. If you go against that, you are shamed and feel like you are destined to be a failure and possibly even disciplined. There is no deeper explanation of the implications of taking on massive amounts of student loans. We are continually told that this is the only way most can afford college, so we must do it.

Many of us eventually learned that college is most certainly not the only option. College is one of many pathways available to live a successful life and oftentimes a degree means little to nothing these days. This process puts us in debt for possibly the rest of our lives for the sake of giving us a piece of paper that basically states that we obeyed the system and are okay with being a debt slave forever.

If you have been paying any attention this past year, then you have seen that the Biden-Harris administration has been preparing to launch a Studen Loan Forgiveness program. This is most likely just a political move to secure more potential votes in the next election. However, even if that is why, it's still happening. Most people will be eligible to receive forgiveness in amounts as high as $20,000.

Forgiveness doesn't seem like the proper word for this process considering most of us were led down this path without even having an understanding of the process. Did we even do anything wrong to need to be forgiven for? Or should the establishment be apologizing to us for pushing us down this road forcibly?

How to apply 📝

The beta version of the Student Loan Forgiveness application is live now. If you didn't sign up for the email list, then you probably haven't seen the link yet. Today that changes and you will have access to apply for forgiveness.

Visit https://studenaid.gov/debt-relief/application now to get the process started.

The email from the U.S. Department of Education explains that applications can be submitted now, but won't be processed immediately. It's best to submit your application early so that you have the best chance of receiving forgiveness quickly.

Pell Grant recipients may be eligible for up to $20,000 in forgiveness and non-Pell Grant recipients could get as much as $10,000.

The qualifications to be eligible are not super strict. As long as you made less than $125,000 as an individual or $250,000 as a family last year, then you should qualify.

Applications must be submitted by Dec. 31, 2023. This gives you over a year to make sure you get this done correctly.

The application is extremely simple. You don't have to have any old logins that you may have forgotten. The main thing is your Social Security Number, along with a few other bits of basic info.

Once you finish and submit your application, you will receive a confirmation email to let you know things went smoothly. The next step in the process is patience.

You shouldn't have to do anything else, but if more info is required you will be contacted directly and will not have to reach out yourself. The earlier you get your application in, the more likely it is you will be one of the first to receive Student Loan Forgiveness.

It's hard to say if this Student Loan Forgiveness will end up being a good thing for the citizens of the USA. It may provide financial relief to some struggling to keep up, but it could also spell more trouble for our economy as a whole. It is somewhat similar to the Stimulus Checks we were all forced to receive during the COVID fiasco.
