Home Insurance Won't Save Your Crypto

Lost $5,000 in crypto last year when my wallet got hacked. Called my insurance company thinking my homeowner's policy would cover it. They laughed.

This recent court case with Sedaghatpour losing $170,000 reminds me of that experience. The Fourth Circuit ruling confirms what I learned the hard way - home insurance doesn't protect digital assets.

It makes sense when you think about it. My policy covers tangible stuff like my laptop, not the Bitcoin inside it. But then again we're living in a digital age where our wealth isn't just physical anymore. Standard insurance hasn't caught up with that yet.

Some companies like Evertas are starting to offer crypto-specific coverage, but mostly for big institutions.

In other words, store your keys in a home safe all you want, if someone drains your wallet, that's your problem.
