Brewed Jank, but it Became Dank! Standard Cascade?! (Mythic tested!)

Whatup MTG nerds! For the new year I wanted to start brewing some more sweet jank decks. Not often, but sometimes these decks end up being undiscovered strong decks. Back in paper, these would be the off-meta outcast decks that you see place in turnys here and there.

MTGA has become my home for brewing and testing this kinda nonsence, and we stumbled onto a pretty lit standard deck this week. I've smashed my expected winrate while testing in Mythic ranked, and got to enjoy the new Discover mechanic while doing so! We have brewed up a 3c Enchantment deck that values auras, artifacts, enchantments, and spirits. Seems like alot, but I will show you how they all come together in this brew. Welcome to Discover Calix!

Selesnia enchants in already an established meta deck. Although this brew may slightly resemble it, there are some substantial differences that change how the deck is mechaniclly played and how it can be played against. The 2 big changes are deck color, and average CMC of the deck. We added red to run Etali's Favor, then upped our averave CMC for better Discover triggers.

This brew started with the idea of landing Etali's Favor, hitting Calix with the discover trigger, swing with trample enchanted creature to trigger Calix, copying another discover or any better option on board. This was the meme dream I had, and we ended up with a high-powered deck that shores up some weaknesses Selesnia Enchants has.

Basing a deck around auras is always risky.. You set yourself up for an easy 2for1 trade when you OP has removel. One of Selesnia Enchant weakness is this, or just removel in general. With our brew being based around an aura, we have added in some protection to help it land. Wanting to up our average deck CMC also lets us cut 1drop creatures for better value enchantments.

We bring in good 3 CMC enchantments like Wedding Anouncement for Discover value, and play a different 1 drop, Skrelv, for protection. This is a key mechanical difference, Selesnia enchants plays 1drops that can stack and curve into nasty turn 2-3. We play our 1drop only to protect our better creatures later in the game. Skrelv makes landing an aura fairly safe, and can double as a make-shift unblockable trigger with color protection.

Skrelv also bumps our saga, thats where the deck cares about artifacts. Michiko's is a bomb, and it can end a game if you discover into it. Kami is a spirit that cares about enchantments, and Katilda cares about enchantments and spirits. All things have a home here <3

Outside the janky-but-lovable core, We run some standard selesnia enchant cards. Audacity for another aura, Ossification and Borrowed Time to deal with problems, Spirited Companion for a value enchanment body.

Honestly, I never played with cascade a whole lot. I wanted to try out Discover to get another taste of it, and found out that Yes. Cascade and things like it are still strong af. Even when its tied to an aura and restricted to 3CMC, it's still a crazy effect. Most OPs will think they are playing against Slesnia Enchants with a bad opener. Next thing you know, we drop a red land on turn 3 and go Bonkers 😝

Hope you enjoyed the read as much as I did brewing it! Good luck and see yall on the ladder <3
