HBO Max estrenó una de las series animadas que, después de ser infantil (hasta cierto punto) ahora da un salto hacia una audiencia más adulta. Tras el final de Hora de Aventura, la tierra de Ooo ha sufrido grandes cambios tecnológicos y sociales. Simon Petrikov, antiguo rey helado, sufre por la pérdida de su amada en una soberbia crisis existencial. After the end of Adventure Time, the land of Ooo has undergone significant technological and social changes. Simon Petrikov, former ice king, suffers from the loss of his beloved in a superb existential crisis. Refusing to accept the loss, Simon begins to invoke the powers of cosmological chaos to see the love of his life again, unaware that his practices will open the door to a multiverse of dangers, magic, and great adventures.

Escuchar la palabra “spin-off” sin sentir miedo (y emoción) es absurdo, sobre todo si se trata de obras que se catapultaron a la cima de la gran pantalla. Hora de Aventura fue una serie animada con tanto desarrollo y tramas complejas que, sin duda alguna, es válido pensar en que merecía una secuela para suprimir las nostalgias de sus espectadores. Hubo preguntas que quedaron al aire tras un episodio final de incesantes alegorías y metáforas. La segunda llegada de Golb, el ser cósmico más horripilante del universo, cambió para siempre a la mayoría de los personajes. Algunos tuvieron un guiño de final feliz, mientras que otros se hundieron en el dolor irreparable.
Y digo “guiño de final feliz” porque no todo fue tan feliz como lo imaginé. Hora de Aventura ocultaba en su inocente programación para niños un mensaje que solo las mentalidades más abiertas comprendían. Las alas del humor negro sacudieron un universo animado repleto de situaciones complejas, absurdas y filosóficas… cosas que un niño jamás podría entender, pero que un adulto interpretaba con serenidad, a sabiendas de que esta caricatura destilaba verdades sin sobrepasar los terrenos de lo vulgar. En Fionna y Cake ya no es necesario camuflar el mensaje… ahora hay más libertad para disfrutarlo.
Hearing the word "spin-off" without feeling fear (and excitement) is absurd, especially when it comes to works that catapulted to the top of the big screen. Adventure Time was an animated series with so much development and complex plots that, without a doubt, it is valid to think that it deserved a sequel to suppress the nostalgia of its viewers. Questions were left hanging in the air after a final episode of incessant allegories and metaphors. The second coming of Golb, the most horrifying cosmic being in the universe, changed most of the characters forever. Some got a wink of a happy ending, while others sank into irreparable pain.
And I say "wink happy ending" because not everything was as happy as I imagined. Adventure Time hid a message that only the most open-minded would understand in its innocent programming for children. The wings of black humor shook an animated universe full of complex, absurd, and philosophical situations... things that a child could never understand, but that an adult interpreted with serenity, knowing that this cartoon distilled truths without exceeding the grounds of the vulgar. In Fionna and Cake, it is no longer necessary to camouflage the message... now there is more freedom to enjoy it.

En Fionna y Cake palpamos una obra con el mismo eje lineal de Hora de Aventura, ahora situados en algunos años después. A diferencia de su antecesora, desde el primer momento miramos la lógica del conflicto, no enfrascado en aventuras al azar. Todo nace de la soledad, y la necesidad de eliminar el vacío que arrastra la perdida. Es aquí donde el Multiverso cobra sentido, con la aparición de nuevos héroes, villanos y por supuesto, los personajes que alguna vez nos conmovieron, como el viejo y amigable Finn el Humano.
Esta nueva apuesta de HBO Max cayó como anillo al dedo a los miles de fans que alguna vez desearon ver en pantalla a la versión femenina de Finn y Jake. Ya era algo que se nos anunciaba en el horizonte, pero que resultaba difícil de pensar. La animación, de alguna manera, es nostálgica… tiene toques de sepia, a mi parecer. Hay algo, además, que la hace diferente. Si amaste el universo de Hora de Aventura, te encantará el de Fionna y Cake. Esta vez hasta el propio tiempo está involucrado… y con él, algunos monstruos.
In Fionna and Cake we feel a work with the same linear axis of Adventure Time, now set a few years later. Unlike its predecessor, from the very first moment we see the logic of the conflict, not engrossed in random adventures. Everything is born of loneliness, and the need to eliminate the emptiness that drags the loss. It is here where the Multiverse makes sense, with the appearance of new heroes, villains, and of course, the characters that once moved us, like the old and friendly Finn the Human.
This new bet from HBO Max fell like a glove to the thousands of fans who once wished to see the female version of Finn and Jake on screen. It was already something that was on the horizon but was hard to think about. The animation, in a way, is nostalgic... it has touches of sepia, in my opinion. There's something, too, that makes it different. If you love the Adventure Time universe, you'll love Fionna and Cake. This time even time itself is involved... and with it, some monsters.

Adam Muto regresa junto a una nueva versión de una de las mejores series animadas de todos los tiempos. Creo que Fionna y Cake será otra de esas grandes apuestas, esta vez en el mundo del Streaming. Con excelentes opiniones por parte de la crítica, esta franquicia promete seguir sorprendiendo con la progresiva liberación de sus capítulos. Por ahora, van solo cuatro, lo suficiente para engancharte y hacerte enloquecer por un episodio más.
La vida de Simon Petrikov ya no es la misma; sin su amada y sin su corona, deberá sacrificar más que su renovada humanidad para hallar respuestas y, desde luego, motivos para seguir viviendo. Por suerte, Fionna y Cake le enseñarán que todo tiene solución con una buena aventura. Bajo la genialidad de una premisa atrapante y un estilo enloquecedor, este spin-off es una muestra más de que la animación, con toques dantescos, puede convertirse en una nostálgica obra de arte.
Aprender a vivir… me huele a que también comprenderemos mucho de eso con Fionna y Cake.
Adam Muto returns with a new version of one of the best-animated series of all time. I think Fionna and Cake will be another one of those big bets, this time in the Streaming world. With excellent reviews from critics, this franchise promises to continue to surprise with the progressive release of its episodes. For now, it's only four, just enough to get you hooked and make you go crazy for one more episode.
Simon Petrikov's life is no longer the same; without his beloved and his crown, he must sacrifice more than his renewed humanity to find answers and certainly reasons to keep living. Luckily, Fionna and Cake will teach him that everything can be solved with a good adventure. Under the genius of an enthralling premise and a maddening style, this spin-off is yet another proof that animation, with Dantesque touches, can become a nostalgic work of art.
Learning to live... I smell that we will also understand a lot of that with Fionna and Cake.
