Vamos a recordar la mejor película que he visto y no solo porque me haya sacado un susto porque salió la típica escena cliché en donde el temible fantasma aparece en una esquina (Que igual me asusta) sino porque me ha causado un terror psicológico, me ha desesperado y he caído en su trampa haciéndome sentir atrapada.

Let's remember the best movie I've ever seen and not just because it scared the crap out of me because of the typical cliché scene where the scary ghost appears in a corner (which still scares me) but because it has caused me psychological terror, it has made me desperate and I have fallen into its trap making me feel trapped.

Cuando me di cuenta del concurso me encontré en un debate interno donde debía elegir entre dos películas que son para mí, un terror puro con diferentes factores más allá de lo “fantasmal” esas películas eran Midsommar: el terror no espera la noche y Hereditary: El legado del diablo, ambas dirigidas por el mismo director: Ari Aster. Y después de que las dos películas se enfrentaran en una pelea de boxeo, ganó Hereditary, así que esa será la entrega de la que voy a hablar, y ganó porque tiene para mí, una historia muy original, increíbles actuaciones que me hicieron sentir todo, escenas escalofriantes, mucho sentimiento y no me causó repulsión, en el caso de Midsonmmar que, a pesar de ser de lo mejor que he visto, no me gustaría volverla a ver pronto, aún no sano del trauma. Porque me provoca repulsión, no porque sea mala, sino porque es tan buena que no soy capaz de mantener la vista sin apartarla o sentir mucho desprecio por lo que estaba viendo, y Hereditary no es que sea canción de ángeles, esa película también me traumó, pero entre desprecio y desesperación, prefiero lo segundo.
When I became aware of the contest I found myself in an internal debate where I had to choose between two films that are for me, pure horror with different factors beyond the "spooky" those films were Midsommar: Terror waits for no night and Hereditary: The Devil's Legacy, both directed by the same director: Ari Aster. And after the two films faced each other in a boxing match, Hereditary won, so that will be the installment I'm going to talk about, and it won because it has for me, a very original story, incredible performances that made me feel everything, chilling scenes, a lot of feeling and did not cause me repulsion, in the case of Midsonmmar that, despite being one of the best I've seen, I would not like to see it again soon, still not healthy from the trauma. Because it causes me repulsion, not because it is bad, but because it is so good that I am not able to keep looking at it without looking away or feel much contempt for what I was seeing, and Hereditary is not that it is a song of angels, that film also traumatized me, but between contempt and despair, I prefer the latter.

Todo comienza con la muerta de la abuela Graham, en esta escenas conocenos a los protagonitas (están todos reunidos en el velorio) y basta con echarles un sencillo vistazo para darnos cuenta que son "Extraños" particularmente la hija menor de Annie, Charlie Graham, quien tiene gustos extramadamente raros e incluso peligrosos, por obvias razones no es para nada sociable. Tras la muerte de la Abuela Graham, los miembros de la familia padecerán de espeluznantes experiencias, malditos con el mal que los asecha ¿Producto de qué...?
It all begins with the death of Grandma Graham, in this scene we meet the protagonists (they are all gathered at the wake) and it is enough to take a simple glance at them to realize that they are "Strangers" particularly Annie's youngest daughter, Charlie Graham, who has extremely strange and even dangerous tastes, for obvious reasons is not at all sociable. After the death of Grandma Graham, the members of the family will suffer from creepy experiences, cursed with the evil that haunts them, a product of what?
Hay diversas razones por las cuáles considero a Hereditary como la mejor película de terror que he disfrutado. Algo curioso, nunca he sido fan de este tipo de películas, siento que sus finales amargos me quitan (lo que llamo) "Años de felicidad" Y esta es de esas películas que me acortaron la vida, pero pude disfrutar.
¿Descripción cliché? Tal vez, pero les aseguro que esta película da más de lo que promete. Y esa es una de las razones por el cuál amo este filme.
- No es cliché: ¿No les pasa que se han sentido engañados con una película porque el tráiler muestra lo más bueno y a la hora de la película, queda un cascarón vacío? Pues el legado del diablo, no es así. "Una familia que será atormentada por los malos espíritos..." "Malos espíritus que se dedican a abrir y cerrar puertas..." "Malos espíritus que se roban las llevas de la casa y por las noches desarreglan la cocina..." Pues no mi cielo, aquí "este terror" no es el principal, rompe ese esquema que utilizan las películas una y otra vez pero con otros actores. Estos "Espíritus" van más en serio...
There are several reasons why I consider Hereditary as the best horror movie I've ever enjoyed. Funny thing, I've never been a fan of this kind of movies, I feel their bitter endings take away (what I call) "Years of happiness " And this is one of those movies that shortened my life, but I was able to enjoy.
Cliché description? Maybe, but I assure you this movie delivers more than it promises. And that's one of the reasons why I love this film.
- It's not cliché: Haven't you ever felt cheated by a movie because the trailer shows all the good stuff and when it comes to the movie, it's an empty shell? Well, The Devil's Legacy isn't like that. "A family that will be tormented by evil spirits..." "Evil spirits that are dedicated to opening and closing doors..." "Evil spirits that steal the household's groceries and at night they mess up the kitchen... " Well no my dear, here "this terror" is not the main one, it breaks that scheme that movies use over and over again but with other actors. These "Spirits " are more serious...
Para mi gusto, considero que una buena película de terror debe poseer más temas que lo rodean, sé que su tema principal ha de ser inculcar miedo en el espectador, pero existen películas que se centra solo en eso y deja a sus personajes planísimos como tabla, se sabe que existen con el único propósito de morir ¿Qué gracia tiene eso? Hereditary combina este terror con temas que encajan a la perfección, y esta es la segunda razón por el cual la amo.
2- Variedad temática: Los sustos no son suficientes para abordar una película, y Hereditary lo demuestra, toca temas (y no por encimita) que incluso -me atrevería a decir- Si se quitara el terror, la película podría funcionar. ¿Cuáles son esos temas? Lo más destacables son: La depresión, abordaba de una forma tan espectacular, principalmente reflejada en Peter (hijo) y Annie (madre) -Aunque todos tienen una tristeza que los consume, pero, estos dos personajes lo representan más, sobre todo porque siento que viven las peores desgracias en esa casa de condenación.
Otro tema sería, la desunión familiar. Esta familia viene albergando problemas durante un largo tiempo, problemas que nunca fueron capaz de comunicar y poco a poco estallan en la cara del otro, se destruyen con palabras tanto como si dañarán físicamente, y eso -como todo- trae terribles consecuencias.
Y por último, la desesperación ¿Cuánto cuesta que una película te haga sentir parte del desespero de un actor? Mucho, y depende de dos factores, de una excelente actuación, y de un buen guión, que meta esa escena en el momento perfecto ¡Hereditary lo tiene! No teme mandar todo por la borda y colocar a los personajes en situaciones asfixiantes y con su excelente actuación, te lo transmite. La vida puede escupirnos en la cara, y es justo lo que tiene que soportar la familia Graham.
For my taste, I consider that a good horror movie should have more themes surrounding it, I know that its main theme has to be to instill fear in the viewer, but there are films that focuses only on that and leaves its characters flat as a board, it is known that they exist for the sole purpose of dying, what fun is that? Hereditary combines this horror with themes that fit perfectly, and this is the second reason why I love it.
2- Thematic Variety: Scares are not enough to tackle a movie, and Hereditary proves it, it touches on themes (and not just over the top) that even - dare I say - If the horror was removed, the movie could work.What are those themes? Most notable are: Depression, tackled in such a spectacular way, mainly reflected in Peter (son) and Annie (mother) -Although everyone has a sadness that consumes them, but, these two characters represent it the most, especially because I feel they live the worst misfortunes in that house of damnation.
Another theme would be family disunity. This family has been harboring problems for a long time, problems that they were never able to communicate and little by little they explode in each other's face, they destroy each other with words as much as if they would harm each other physically, and that -like everything- brings terrible consequences.
And finally, desperation. How much does it cost for a film to make you feel part of an actor's desperation? A lot, and it depends on two factors, an excellent performance, and a good script, which puts that scene in the perfect moment. It's not afraid to send everything overboard and place the characters in suffocating situations and with its excellent acting, it transmits it to you. Life can spit in our face, and that's just what the Graham family has to endure.
Y la última razón que mencionaré para dar el golpe final y convencerlos de que vean este filme, es su suspenso lento pero peligroso y altamente adictivo.
3- Suspenso lento: OJO, no se echen para atrás, lo lento no precisamente es sinónimo de "aburrido". En esta película de dos horas, todo se va desarrollando con un ritmo no apresurado, pero que combina fuertes acontecimientos en todo su proceso, es como si caminara despacio y de repente acelerará como si lo persiguiera el mísmisimo diablo, pero de repente se tranquiliza como las aguas que calmaba Jesucristo, lo que hace que el espectador ¡Quiera saber más! te va dejando rastros de lo que crees que podría concluir pero dudosamente se acerca un final predecible. Eso es lo bello del terror psicológico, juega con tus emociones, profundiza temas reales y por último, el terror aparece cuando menos te los esperas, o, de la forma en la que no esperas que aparezca. En el tiempo en el que no ocurre algo relacionado a lo paranormal, se enfoca en eventos que son de importancia para el desarrollo de la historia. No se siente forzado o aburrido, y eso es lo bueno de esta película, que no la plagan con escenas de abrir y cerrar cajones o puertas que es usado en exceso en otros filmes, haciendo que pierda su gracia. Aquí, como no pasa algo como esto con regularidad, si te llega a sorprender. Y no porque haya un momento de paz, porque no lo hay, pero esa mezcla de problemas familiares hace que la película pareciera llevar otro rumbo, pero no, allí están esos toques de terror porque no es suficiente lo que están sufriendo. ¡Pobre familia Graham! no envidio esa vida.
Una grandiosa película con un suspenso que va a una velocidad rítmica que se manifiesta de forma lenta, pero estalla de manera fenomenal, cosa que muchas películas intentan, pero no logran enfocar bien el qué hacer en esos momentos donde el terror no está presente, no lográn mantener ese suspenso activo o por lo menos reemplazarlo con otro tema que sea de valor para la obra.
Hereditary, lo logra.
And the last reason I will mention to give the final blow and convince you to see this film, is its slow but dangerous and highly addictive suspense.
3- Slow suspense: WARNING, don't back out, slow is not exactly synonymous with "boring". In this two-hour film, everything develops at a pace that is not rushed, but combines strong events throughout, it is as if it walks slowly and suddenly accelerates as if the devil himself was chasing it, but suddenly it calms down like the waters that Jesus Christ calmed, which makes the viewer want to know more! it leaves you traces of what you think might conclude but doubtfully a predictable ending is approaching. That's the beauty of psychological horror, it plays with your emotions, delves into real issues and finally, the terror appears when you least expect it, or, in the way you don't expect it to appear. In the time when something paranormal-related is not happening, it focuses on events that are of importance to the development of the story. It doesn't feel forced or boring, and that's what's great about this film, that it's not plagued with scenes of opening and closing drawers or doors that is overused in other films, making it lose its grace. Here, because something like this doesn't happen on a regular basis, it does come as a surprise. And not because there is a moment of peace, because there isn't, but that mixture of family problems makes the film seem to take another course, but no, there are those touches of terror because it's not enough what they are suffering. Poor Graham family! I don't envy that life.
A great film with a suspense that goes at a rhythmic speed that manifests itself slowly, but explodes in a phenomenal way, something that many films try, but fail to focus well on what to do in those moments where the terror is not present, they fail to keep that suspense active or at least replace it with another theme that is of value to the work.
Hereditary succeeds.
