Many times, in action movies we are used to seeing soldiers, members of special forces, martial artists, policemen, super muscular people with a brutal thirst for blood; however, in El Contador we are shown a protagonist totally out of the box. Directed by the American Gavin O'Connor and starring Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons, this film was released in 2016 and was met with both positive and negative professional reviews. I admit that when I saw the name, I didn't pay much attention to it, but when I saw the movie I felt an indescribable emotion and I couldn't help but say: I'm an accountant too!

History
Christian Wolff is a man diagnosed with Asperger's, a disorder within the autism spectrum, but this boy falls into the classification of high performance, proven time and time again with the above-average ability that he demonstrates in the mathematical field . Cold, calculating and unsociable, a sine qua non of autistics, he runs a small accounting office in a small town, but is that really all Wolff does for a living?
Wolff, recognized for his great dexterity with numbers, is in charge of keeping the accounts of criminal organizations around the world, earning the nickname "The Accountant", capable of handling with great ease the large amounts of money they move these organizations on a daily basis without even breaking a sweat. Aware of his virtues, Francis Silverberg, owner of a multimillion-dollar company that produces high-quality robotic prostheses, requests his services to investigate a recently discovered money leak.
Thanks to photos from surveillance cameras, Treasury Department agents Ray King and Marybeth Medina are on the trail of the famous Accountant, who curiously has been seen in photographs with the heads of the most powerful organizations in the world, but his identity is kept secret because his face has never been seen on camera. Will these agents be able to catch Wolff and gain top-level information on the finances of organizations like the Yakuza, or will Wolff be sneaky enough to avoid being caught by the authorities? Although wait a minute, this is not all that happens, this film is not simply about a police chase or mere detective work, here we will see that and good action, which will bring out many emotions in us, the viewers.

What did I think of the movie?
IMHO, the movie is too good. Without lying to you, I've seen it like 5 times. It seems to me a very, very interesting film that combines many things, such as action, upheavals, quite deep family conflicts, finances, betrayal and a good act of redemption. It has those dark overtones that are appreciated, fast-paced action and a more than acceptable backstory.
The first time I saw it I was quite surprised by the whole movie, because it is not so common in movies to see a high-achieving autistic person laundering his own money and that of others, with a front office whose income is almost always donated to charity , with a huge truck that enters a garage door almost the same width as the truck, leaving very little room for error, his nomadic secret life ready to flee at any moment with large amounts of money, gold, works of art valued at million dollars... Mom, when I grow up I want to be an accountant like that. It's impressive, really. There are many very important details that I am ignoring so as not to take away all the surprise if you have not seen it, because it is very worth seeing and reviewing it.

Why is one of my favourite action movies?
First of all, and obviously, the most important thing for me, is that the film is about an accountant, why? Because I am an accountant. Seeing the scenes of Wolff performing calculations as if possessed by the spirits of the greatest mathematicians in history, scratching with acrylic markers on glass while reviewing an enormous amount of papers and processing everything almost automatically, was orgasmic. Not by this I mean that I was moved to see an accountant rubbing shoulders with the world's top crime (well, yes, a little bit), but to see the power that an accountant can have in multi-million dollar organizations and in criminal movements that launder hundreds of billions a year, I liked it, I felt inspired. I also liked that the protagonist is Asperger's, and more so now with the trend of inclusion almost always forced, but his addition seemed very good and not forced at all. They characterize it with great respect towards all the people who suffer from this disorder, but showing its main characteristics: difficulty socializing, cautious, calculating, forced to finish what they started because if not, the chaos it generates in them consumes them.
Whoever determined that Affleck would be the one to play an Asperger character, with his serious and unchanging complexion, deserves all the awards and successes in the world. Sure, the glory doesn't just go to the casting company, but to Affleck himself. It seems to me that the whole movie was an acting master class for Ben, as he got very into the character and the little details that he had, sometimes almost imperceptible, gave him a great realism. The order, the methodical way of arranging things so that everything is symmetrical and in its perfect place, the tics, the gestures, the rejection of relationships with other people, and his particular way of reacting to various situations, seemed wonderful to me. The physique that he brought from Batman vs. Superman suits him well to show that as a child, Wolff was harshly trained with his brother by his father and different teachers from different disciplines, especially to defend himself against bullies.
Something to highlight is also the terrible family dynamics that we see in the Wolff family. The mother leaves home very hurt because she cannot stand her father, leaving the latter in charge of her two children, one who loves her and does not understand why she is leaving, and another who creates a feeling of rage towards her for having abandoned them. All this conflict is the trigger for the training by the father to the children, claiming that this way, they will never feel alone or abandoned like the day their mother left home.

Despite all of the above, however, Wolff grows fond of Danna Cummings, played by the beautiful Anna Kendrick. Danna was the member of the accounting department of the prosthesis company who discovered the leak, and since she is the one who has the most knowledge about it, she seeks to communicate what she knows and get to know him, but he raises an enormous barrier that in the course of the film she is collapsing little by little, to the point of getting to worry and, I think, to bring out feelings for her. Because of Wolff, she finds herself involved in a rather dangerous situation when Mr. Silverberg decides to eliminate those who know about the capital flight, once the problem was solved.
The action scenes are very good, all of them. Wolff in close combat is a master, showing very little pain despite being wounded. His mastery with weapons is exceptional, both with pistols, submachine guns and even sniper rifles. He faces everything with an amazing calm, and his only moment of lack of control is at night when he locks himself in his room, plays super heavy music at full volume, a flashing light and hits his legs with a stick, a method to combat his disorder, perhaps. The outcome of the film seemed very good to me, worth seeing for yourselves with subsequent exchange of opinions in the comments.

Final comments
The Accountant has wonderful performances, a pretty good scenery and a pretty attractive background story, which together with its fights and shootouts, makes it a very interesting and entertaining movie. If you want a good story, you can watch it with confidence; if you want action, death and blood, you can watch it with confidence; if you want something that breaks the mold of the action movie leading man stereotype, you can watch it with confidence. It is a recommendation that I would do with my eyes closed and I am sure that you will like it very much.

Muchas veces, en las películas de acción acostumbramos a ver soldados, integrantes de fuerzas especiales, artistas marciales, policías, gente súper musculosa y con una sed de sangre brutal; sin embargo, en El Contador nos muestran a un protagonista totalmente fuera del molde. Dirigida por el estadounidense Gavin O'Connor y protagonizada por Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick y J.K. Simmons, esta película vio la luz en el 2016 y fue recibida con críticas profesionales tanto positivas como negativas. Admito que cuando vi el nombre, no le presté mucha atención, pero cuando vi la película sentí una emoción indescriptible y no pude evitar decir: ¡Yo también soy contador!

Gracias a fotos de cámaras de vigilancias, los agentes del departamento del Tesoro Ray King y Marybeth Medina, van tras la pista del famoso Contador, que curiosamente se ha visto en fotografías con las cabezas de las organizaciones más poderosas del mundo, pero su identidad se mantiene en secreto porque nunca se ha visto su rostro en cámaras. ¿Podrán estos agentes atrapar a Wolff y así obtener información top level de las finanzas de organizaciones como la Yakuza, o será Wolff lo suficientemente escurridizo para evitar ser atrapado por las autoridades? Aunque un momento, esto no es todo lo que sucede, esta película no trata simplemente de una persecución policial o mero trabajo detectivesco, aquí veremos eso y acción de la buena, que aflorarán muchas emociones en nosotros, los espectadores.

¿Qué me pareció la película?
En mi humilde opinión, la película es demasiado buena. Sin mentirles, la he visto como 5 veces. Me parece una película muy pero muy interesante que combina muchas cosas, como la acción, trastornos, conflictos familiares bastante profundos, finanzas, traición y un buen acto de redención. Tiene esos tintes oscuros que se agradecen, acción trepidante y una historia de trasfondo más que aceptable.
La primera vez que la vi me sorprendió bastante toda la película, porque no es tan común en las películas ver a un autista de alto rendimiento lavando dinero propio y ajeno, con una oficina fachada cuyos ingresos casi siempre dona a la caridad, con una camioneta enorme que entra en una puerta de garaje casi del mismo ancho de la camioneta, dejando muy poco margen de error, su vida secreta nómada preparada para huir en cualquier momento con altas cantidades de dinero, oro, obras de arte valuadas en millones de dólares... Mamá, cuando grande quiero ser un contador así. Es impresionante, la verdad. Hay muchos detalles importantísimos que estoy obviando para no quitarles toda la sorpresa si no la han visto, porque vale mucho la pena verla y reverla.

¿Por qué es una de mis películas favoritas de acción?
En primer lugar, y obvio, lo más importante para mí, es que la película trate sobre un contador, ¿por qué? Porque soy contador. Ver las escenas de Wolff realizando cálculos como poseído por los espíritus de los más grandes matemáticos de la historia rayando con marcadores acrílicos sobre un vidrio mientras revisa una cantidad enorme de papeles y lo procesa todo casi de forma automática, fue orgásmico. No con esto quiero decir que me emocioné al ver a un contador codeándose con lo más alto del crimen mundial (bueno, sí, un poquito), pero ver el poder que puede llegar a tener un contador en organizaciones multimillonarias y en movimientos delictivos que lavan cientos de miles de millones al año, me gustó, me sentí inspirado. También me gustó que el protagonista sea Asperger, y más ahora con la moda de inclusión casi siempre forzosa, pero su adición me pareció muy buena y para nada forzada. Lo caracterizan con mucho respeto hacia todas las personas que sufren este trastorno, pero mostrando sus principales características: dificultad para socializar, cautelosos, calculadores, obligados a finalizar lo que empezaron porque si no, el caos que genera en ellos los consume.
Quien determinó que Affleck sería el indicado para interpretar a un personaje asperger, con su tez seria e inmutable, se merece todos los premios y éxitos del mundo. Claro, la gloria no es solo para la compañía de casting, sino para el mismo Affleck. Me parece que toda la película fue una master class de actuación de Ben, ya que se metió mucho en el personaje y los pequeños detalles que tenía, a veces casi imperceptibles, le dieron un gran realismo. El orden, lo metódico de acomodar las cosas para que todo esté simétrico y en su lugar perfecto, los tics, la gestualidad, el rechazo a las relaciones con otras personas, y su particular manera de reaccionar ante diversas situaciones, me parecieron maravillosas. El físico que traía desde Batman vs. Superman, le sienta bien para demostrar que desde niño, Wolff fue duramente entrenado junto a su hermano por su padre y distintos maestros de distintas disciplinas, sobre todo para defenderse de bravucones.
Algo a resaltar también es la terrible dinámica familiar que vemos en la familia de Wolff. La madre abandona muy dolida el hogar al no soportar al padre, quedando este último a cargo de sus dos hijos, uno que la ama y no entiende por qué se va, y otro que crea un sentimiento de rabia hacia ella por haberlos abandonado. Todo este conflicto es el desencadenante de los entrenamientos por parte del padre a los niños, alegando que así, jamás se sentirán solos ni abandonados como el día en que su madre partió del hogar.

No obstante, a pesar de todo lo anteriormente dicho, Wolff llega a sentir aprecio por Danna Cummings, interpretada por la hermosa Anna Kendrick. Danna fue la integrante del departamento contable de la empresa de prótesis quien descubrió la fuga, y al ser ella quien más tiene conocimiento al respecto, busca comunicarle lo que sabe y conocerlo, pero él levanta una barrera enorme que en el transcurso de la película se va derrumbando poco a poco, hasta el punto de llegar a preocuparse y, creo yo, aflorar sentimientos por ella. Por culpa de Wolff, ella se ve envuelta en una situación bastante peligrosa cuando el señor Silverberg decide eliminar cabos que sepan de la fuga de capitales, una vez el problema estuvo resuelto.
Las escenas de acción son muy buenas, todas. Wolff en combate cuerpo a cuerpo es un maestro, demostrando muy poco dolor a pesar de estar herido. Su maestría con las armas es excepcional, tanto con pistolas, metralletas e incluso rifles de francotirador. Todo lo afronta con una calma pasmante, y su único momento de descontrol es en las noches que se encierra en su habitación, coloca música súper pesada a todo volumen, una luz intermitente y se golpea con un palo las piernas, un método para combatir su trastorno, quizás. El desenlace de la película me pareció muy bueno, digno de ver por ustedes mismos con posterior intercambio de opiniones en los comentarios.

El Contador cuenta con maravillosas actuaciones, una escenografía bastante buena y una historia de trasfondo bastante atractiva, que junto a sus peleas y balaceras, la hace una película muy interesante y entretenida. Si quieres una buena historia, puedes verla con confianza; si quieres acción, muerte y sangre, puedes verla con confianza; si quieres algo que rompa el molde del estereoripo de protagonista de película de acción, puedes verla con confianza. Es una recomendación que haría con los ojos cerrados y estoy seguro que gustara mucho.
