Old Dads (film): A film with a lot of laughs for people unhappy with modern times

This movie was written, directed by, and stars Bill Burr so if you are familiar with his brand of comedy and especially if you like it, you are likely to enjoy this film.

For the most part this movie is about people in their 40's who have children, and aren't really happy with the way that modern PC culture has changed a lot of things in life. I personally was able to identify with this quite well since even though I intentionally avoid having people in my life that have adapted this new PC way of life, I am also not pleased that it exists and find it quite stupid.

I was kind of surprised that this was released on the Netflix platform because they seem to be rather massive proponents of modern PC culture and seem to almost actively promote it. Perhaps they decided to do so because Burr's stand up comedy specials have been a huge hit for them.

This isn't a film that is going to win any awards though, but I think that most people who like me are a bit older than the TikTok generation are going to really be able to relate to how "Jack" (Bill Burr) and his close buddies are not actively trying to hurt anyone, but accidentally break the modern PC rules and this gets them in trouble and makes them angry.

One thing I particularly enjoy about the existence of this film is that the media is lambasting it as being "right-wing" even though the only thing that it is making fun of is how people these days seem to be taking the whole PC culture thing a bit too far in certain parts of the world and those of us that don't identify with it think it is stupid. Bill Burr is apparently one of those people and if you are also one of those people, I think you will get a lot of laughs out of this one.

As expected, the professional critics are dragging this one through the mud and saying that it uses "old tropes" and is offensive and what not, while not realizing that this is exactly the sort of humor than Bill Burr does and has always done.

The big players once again have a massive disconnect with the average Joe and this was to be expected. All of these review sites cannot be trusted. IMDB is a little more fair but RT has just become ridiculous at this point.

Should I watch it?

It depends. If you are a super-sensitive person who believes that speech should be policed in public and that all of us are automatically guilty of something depending on the color of our skin then no, you will probably not enjoy it. However, if you are a normal person that appreciated Burr's special brand of writing then I think you will find this to be a fun ride. This is a typical comedy though and in that regard it is nothing particularly ground-breaking, but then again, I don't even know how one actually can make a completely original type of comedy film these days anyway.
