Hola amigos de la comunidad de Movies & Tv, espero se encuentren bien el día de hoy. Hoy mi mamá me recomendó ver una película estrenada este año y protagonizada por Richard Gere llamada Descubriendo a mi Hijo o en inglés Longing de género drama y comedia, realmente me emociono mucho la idea de poder ver una nueva historia donde incluyeran al gran actor que es Gere, esta película ha tenido críticas buenas y malas pero decidí tomarme el tiempo de verla en familia y saber de que se trata la historia de esta película.

Today my mom recommended me to watch a movie released this year and starring Richard Gere called Discovering my Son or in English Longing of drama and comedy genre, I was really excited about the idea of seeing a new story where they included the great actor who is Gere, this movie has had good and bad reviews but I decided to take the time to watch it as a family and know what the story of this movie is about.
La trama nos cuenta la vida de Daniel (Richard Gere) quién es un hombre de negocios muy adinerado y que lleva una vida bastante ocupada a pesar de ser un hombre de unos cincuenta y tantos años, todo en su vida parece ir con calma y no se puede quejar de la vida que lleva hasta que un día aparece un viejo amor que tuvo con una mujer llamada Rachel a quien amo profundamente pero con la que no pudo continuar su relación y ambos tomados caminos separados. En la llamada Rachel está muy consternada y angustiada ante una noticia que tiene que darle que cambiará su vida por completo y le hará replantearse todo lo que ha vivido hasta ahora.
The plot tells us the life of Daniel (Richard Gere) who is a very wealthy businessman and leads a busy life despite being a man in his fifties, everything in his life seems to go smoothly and can not complain about the life he leads until one day an old love he had with a woman named Rachel who he loved deeply but with whom he could not continue their relationship and both went their separate ways. In the call Rachel is very dismayed and distressed by the news she has to give him that will change his life completely and will make him rethink everything he has lived so far.
Rachel (Suzanne Clément) le cuenta a Daniel que cuando terminaron su relación al poco tiempo se enteró de que estaba embarazada de un niño, con mucho temor tuvo que ocultar esta noticia que cambiaría por completo la vida de Daniel ya que el siempre dentro de la relación le recalcó que no quería jamás tener hijos, aún así el impacto de la noticia lo deja sin palabras pero lo peor de todo no es saber que tenía un hijo que no conocía sino que este murió hace unos días producto de un accidente automovilístico con solo diecinueve años y que nunca tuvo la oportunidad de saber que su padre a quien creía muerto estaba vivo y que jamás pudieron llegar a conocerse. Esto para Daniel es como un balde de agua fría y decide visitar el lugar dónde vive Rachel para visitar la tumba de su hijo y conocer un poco más sobre él.
Rachel (Suzanne Clément) tells Daniel that when they ended their relationship shortly after she found out that she was pregnant with a child, with great fear she had to hide this news that would completely change Daniel's life since he always stressed within the relationship that he never wanted to have children, Even so, the impact of the news leaves him speechless, but the worst of all is not knowing that he had a son he did not know, but that he died a few days ago in a car accident when he was only nineteen years old and that he never had the opportunity to know that his father, whom he thought was dead, was alive and that they never got to know each other. This is like a bucket of cold water for Daniel and he decides to visit the place where Rachel lives to visit his son's grave and learn a little more about him.
El hijo de ambos que llevaba por nombre Allen según Rachel era un joven excepcional que le hubiera gustado tener una figura paterna a su lado a pesar de que Rachel volvió a encontrar pareja y este hizo el papel de padrastro. Para Daniel todo es tan desconcertante pero decide que quiere saber cómo era Allen, cuales eran sus pasiones, intereses, como le iba en la escuela, si llego a encontrar el amor y si tal vez tenia algun parecido con él. Durante los días que Daniel pasa en la ciudad se entera de que Allen no tenía el mejor comportamiento, fue expulsado de la escuela por escribir un mensaje lleno de obscenidades sobre una de sus profesoras de la cual estaba profundamente enamorado, también que consumía drogas y que tenía una mala relación con su madre y con su padrastro por lo que se fue a vivir con una joven estudiante que era su novia pero que no llegó a amar tan profundamente como a su profesora.
Their son, Allen, according to Rachel, was an exceptional young man who would have liked to have a father figure by his side, even though Rachel found a partner again and he played the role of stepfather. For Daniel it is all so puzzling but he decides he wants to know what Allen was like, what his passions were, what his interests were, how he did in school, if he ever found love and if perhaps he had any resemblance to him. During the days Daniel spends in the city he learns that Allen was not on his best behavior, he was expelled from school for writing a message full of obscenities about one of his teachers with whom he was deeply in love, also that he used drugs and that he had a bad relationship with his mother and stepfather so he went to live with a young student who was his girlfriend but that he did not love as deeply as his teacher.
Daniel comprende que su hijo Allen no era el mejor muchacho pero que compartían el mismo gusto por la música y el piano, además de que también notó después de leer algunas cosas escritas por su hijo y conociendo a sus amistades que era un joven profundamente sensible y que tal vez estaba pasando por momentos difíciles que lo llevaron a tomar las peores decisiones. Para Daniel es muy importante saber cómo era su primogénito, a pesar de que Daniel siempre estuvo reacio a tener hijos debido a la infancia tan dolorosa que vivió junto a su padre quien fue un hombre que lo golpeaba constantemente y que no tenía ni un poco de amor hacia él por lo que generó este miedo y rechazo hacia la idea de tener hijos.
Daniel understands that his son Allen was not the best boy but that they shared the same taste for music and the piano, besides he also noticed after reading some things written by his son and knowing his friends that he was a deeply sensitive young man and that perhaps he was going through difficult times that led him to make the worst decisions. For Daniel it is very important to know what his first born was like, even though Daniel was always reluctant to have children due to the painful childhood he lived with his father who was a man who constantly beat him and who did not have any love for him, which generated this fear and rejection towards the idea of having children.
Ver una película de Richard Gere es sentirse inmediatamente nostálgico y verlo en el papel de un padre que no conocía a su hijo pero que a pesar de eso desea saber cómo fue su vida sin él muestra un lado muy vulnerable dentro de la historia, podemos ver que a pesar de sus propios miedos desea poder conocer como fue la vida de su hijo Allen y también poder darle una despedida dónde puedan conectarse aunque no sea físicamente. Es bastante triste ver que Daniel no se pudo enterar de que tenía un hijo aunque puede que hubiera reaccionado de mala manera pero eso nunca lo sabremos y es lo que más pesa en el corazón de Daniel. La perdida de un hijo es algo profundamente doloroso, pero a pesar de todo Daniel hace lo posible por saber todo sobre la corta vida de su hijo y también sanar heridas del pasado, demostrando que a pesar del dolor hay que tomar la decisión de dejar ir a ese ser querido y esperar que en cualquier otra vida puedan reencontrarse.
Watching a Richard Gere movie is to feel immediately nostalgic and seeing him in the role of a father who did not know his son but still wants to know how his life was without him shows a very vulnerable side within the story, we can see that despite his own fears he wants to know how his son Allen's life was and also to give him a goodbye where they can connect even if not physically. It is quite sad to see that Daniel could not find out that he had a son although he may have reacted badly but we will never know that and it is what weighs most heavily on Daniel's heart. The loss of a child is something deeply painful, but in spite of everything Daniel does his best to know everything about his son's short life and also to heal wounds from the past, showing that despite the pain you have to make the decision to let go of that loved one and hope that in any other life you can be reunited.
El director Saví Gabizon muestra en esta obra una mezcla de emociones, drama y también momentos de comedia que hacen que la historia se sienta un poco más llevadera a pesar del dolor por el que están pasando tanto Daniel como Rachel y las personas que realmente apreciaron la vida de Allen. Uno de los puntos positivos de esta película es la actuación de Richard Gere que a pesar de estar ya en una edad avanzada sigue teniendo ese poder de hacerte sentir lleno de nostalgia y tristeza a través de su personaje, sin duda cada una de las escenas dónde se encuentra solo pensando en lo que pudo haber sido pero no paso es algo que llega al espectador de inmediato. Lo negativo es que fue un poco larga la película con una duración de casi dos horas en las que habían escenas que se sentían forzadas y también otras que fueron cómo parte de la idea de integrar la comedia dentro de la historia, tal vez si no hubiera tenido este elemento hubiera sido una película con mejor crítica.
The director Savi Gabizon shows in this work a mixture of emotions, drama and also moments of comedy that make the story feel a little more bearable despite the pain that both Daniel and Rachel and the people who really appreciated Allen's life are going through. One of the positive points of this film is the performance of Richard Gere who despite being already at an advanced age still has the power to make you feel full of nostalgia and sadness through his character, no doubt each of the scenes where he is alone thinking about what could have been but did not happen is something that reaches the viewer immediately. The negative is that the film was a little long with a duration of almost two hours in which there were scenes that felt forced and also others that were how part of the idea of integrating comedy into the story, perhaps if it had not had this element it would have been a film with a better review.
Lo que me dejó de reflexión está película es que hay decisiones que se toman que para bien o para mal tendrán una consecuencia y que tenemos que sanar primero para poder estar abiertos a romper patrones y tener una vida dónde no existan tantos arrepentimientos. Para mí no fue la mejor película pero la recomiendo si quieren ver algo de este año y si les gustan las películas de drama y la actuación de Richard Gere. What this movie left me to reflect on is that there are decisions that are made that for better or worse will have a consequence and that we have to heal first in order to be open to break patterns and have a life where there are not so many regrets. For me it was not the best movie but I recommend it if you want to see something from this year and if you like drama movies and Richard Gere's performance.
