¡Saludos queridos espectadores de cine! ¡Feliz comienzo de semana! El día de hoy les traigo la reseña de una película de la cual conocía su creación mucho antes de ser estrenada y estaba esperando por su culminación.
Algunos por aquí sabrán que me gusta el cine sur coreano y el director Chan-Wook Park es uno de los más grandes representantes de cine de ese país, por lo que se esperaba con mucha expectativa que fuera estrenada en el Festival de Cannes del 2022 donde fue proyectada y recibió muy buenas críticas, ojalá se lleve algunas estatuillas en la temporada de premios este año como Mejor Película Extranjera y ¿quién sabe? Sí hasta Mejor Dirección.

Some around here will know that I like South Korean cinema and the director Chan-Wook Park is one of the greatest representatives of cinema from that country, so it was expected with great expectation to be released at the Cannes Film Festival 2022 where it was screened and received very good reviews, so it is expected to take some statuettes in the awards season this year as Best Foreign Film and who knows? Maybe even Best Director.
La película es un thriller sobre un policía Jang Hae-jun (Park Hae-il) quién es llamado a investigar la muerte de un hombre que cayó de las alturas mientras practicaba alpinismo; Hae-jun es un ávido investigador, con mucha experiencia, muy respetado y asertivo.
Durante la investigación parece no cuadrar algo en la escena del crimen y termina la esposa del alpinista fallecido Song Seo-rae (Tang Wei), siendo una de las principales sospechosas de que pudiera haber sido un homicidio.
The film is a thriller about a policeman Jang Hae-jun (Park Hae-il) who is called to investigate the death of a man who fell from heights while mountain climbing; Hae-jun is an avid, experienced, well-respected and assertive investigator.
During the investigation, something seems to be amiss at the crime scene and ends up with the deceased climber's wife Song Seo-rae (Tang Wei) as one of the main suspects that it could have been a homicide.

So far so good right, the problem arises because the cop Hae-jun will end up during the investigation developing feelings for the "suspected" murderer and it will complicate his whole personal and work life.

Mientras veía la película ya sabía de la opinión obtenida durante su proyección, así que adrede intenté ponerme en la visión de una persona que no está acostumbrada a ver el cine sur coreano y entendí el por qué este film terminó teniendo tan buena recepción y por qué el director Chan Woo-Park incluso podría vislumbrarse como uno de los directores favoritos para llevarse muchos premios.
Y es que el cine y en general las producciones audiovisuales de Corea del Sur, son estéticamente ¡demasiado llamativas! cuidan demasiado los detalles visuales y gran parte de ellas son elegantes; puede que la obra en sí no tenga el mejor guion, los mejores efectos visuales, tal vez sea una trama ya conocida, pero la producción siempre se enfoca en que sea realmente una muy buena fotografía, que la estética sea una belleza en su totalidad y este es uno de esos detalles del por qué me gustan tanto las producciones de ese país.
En esta película usan mucho este elemento característico de los sur coreanos, es una obra sencilla desde el punto de vista de los cuadros de escena, pero los enfoques y la forma como manejan los colores, las luces y las sombras son lo que hace que cada una de esas escenas, que aunque son realmente muy domésticas propias del cine coreano por su realismo, se vean tan especiales.
Si eres una persona que admira el arte vas a notar estos detalles, no te dejes llevar solo por la "aparente" trama repetitiva, ve más allá...
Por otro lado, tenemos una historia que hemos visto infinidad de veces en el cine hollywoodense, pero aquí la retratan de una forma muy distinta, no vas a ver las típicas escenas sanguinarias propias de esas películas de investigación, no vas a ver mucha violencia gráfica, esta película trata sobre investigaciones de crímenes, pero realmente ese no es el enfoque principal de ella.
While watching the film I already knew about the opinion obtained during its screening, so I deliberately tried to put myself in the vision of a person who is not used to watching South Korean cinema and I understood why this film ended up having such a good reception and why the director Chan Woo-Park could even be seen as one of the favorite directors to win many awards.
And is that the cinema and in general the South Korean audiovisual productions, are aesthetically too striking! they take too much care of the visual details and most of them are elegant; the work itself may not have the best script, the best visual effects, maybe it's a plot already known, but the production always focuses on being really a very good photography, that the aesthetics is a beauty in its entirety and this is one of those details why I like so much the productions of that country.
In this film they use a lot this characteristic element of South Koreans, it is a simple work from the point of view of the scene frames, but the approaches and the way they handle the colors, lights and shadows are what makes each of these scenes, which are really very domestic typical of Korean cinema for its realism, look so special.
If you are a person who admires art you will notice these details, don't get carried away just by the "apparent" repetitive plot, go further....
On the other hand, we have a story that we have seen countless times in Hollywood movies, but here it is portrayed in a very different way, you will not see the typical bloody scenes typical of those investigation movies, you will not see a lot of graphic violence, this movie is about crime investigations, but that is not really the main focus of it.
La trama gira en base a la relación que se desarrolla entre el investigador y la presunta homicida, pero no vamos a ver nada evidente en esa relación, son personajes cuyos sentimientos trascienden la pantalla, no hay nada explícito aquí, no vas a ver sexo, no vas a ver besos donde se quieran comer uno a otro los protagonistas por la tensión sexual, no, no vas a ver nada de eso, se trata de mucho más.
El director supo manejar bien tanto toda la producción y las escenas, que tu entiendes todo, aun cuando no veas nada de eso que crees entender, y digo que "crees" porque, tal vez lo que crees, no lo es.
Es un film largo, dura 2 horas y medias, les advierto, puede que para algunos lo largo pueda hacerlos verlo aburrido, pero es porque no se enfocan en lo que deben, el film no aburre como otros muchos con esta duración, porque cuando tú crees saber la verdad, entonces tienes otro giro argumental que te deja perplejo y dices "¡ah! ¿Entonces no era así el asunto?"
Esto es lo que hace aún más única la película, durante los primeros minutos vas a decir "¡Que evidente!" Pero si sigues avanzando en ella no vas a entender absolutamente nada ¿la razón? Los muchos recursos filmográficos que usa el director.
The plot revolves around the relationship that develops between the investigator and the alleged murderer, but we will not see anything obvious in that relationship, they are characters whose feelings transcend the screen, there is nothing explicit here, you will not see sex, you will not see kisses where the protagonists want to eat each other because of the sexual tension, no, you will not see any of that, it is much more.
The director knew how to manage the whole production and the scenes so well, that you understand everything, even if you don't see any of what you think you understand, and I say "think" because, maybe what you think, is not.
It is a long film, it lasts 2 and a half hours, I warn you, maybe for some the length may make them watch it boring, but it is because they don't focus on what they should, the film doesn't bore like many others with this length, because when you think you know the truth, then you have another plot twist that leaves you perplexed and you say "ah! So that's not how it was the whole thing?"
This is what makes the film even more unique, for the first few minutes you're going to say "How obvious!" But if you keep moving forward in it you're not going to understand absolutely nothing the reason? The many filmographic resources used by the director.
Se los he dicho otras veces, me encanta detallar las escenas y noto mucho los cambios que hacen con la cámara, no entiendo mucho de eso porque sé muy poco de cine, obviamente, pero en vista a que me gusta la pintura puedo ver claramente cuando usan un recurso que te permite enfocarte en algo muy sutilmente o muy exageradamente y si tomas muchas fotografías o pintas muchos cuadros durante toda la película vas a ver las diferencias en los enfoques que usan durante todo su trayecto, creo que es por eso que lo noto tanto, intento imaginar cómo sería pintar eso, sin realmente hacerlo a propósito.
Es este tipo de películas donde te muestran pequeños detalles de forma súbita y luego amplifican toda la escena como diciéndote "enfócate en esto, que es importante" el director usó muchísimo este recurso, muchos movimientos de cámara que te hacen darte cuenta de que el hilo argumental está ahí y que cada cosa tiene una relación, aun cuando muchas veces parezca perderse.
Y ¿por qué digo que "parezca perderse"? por la forma en la que está narrado el film, les he hablado siempre que también detallo eso en los films, me gusta ver cuando cambian de estilo de narración, así como cuando cambian de narrador. En este caso el director usa saltos en el tiempo como especies de "Flashbacks" que hacen que todo se vuelva confuso, ¿Qué fue real? ¿Qué no lo fue? ¿Es esta visión que me están presentando la real de todo el asunto? O ¿Es un engaño? ¿Me muestran la consciencia o el inconsciente?
Por supuesto, para algunos esto sería algo fastidioso para una película cualquiera, pero para una película detectivesca definitivamente este es un recurso excelentemente muy bien aprovechado porque, tal vez, esa obviedad que tu viste al principio no era tan real, tal vez te estuvieron engañando todo el tiempo y sencillamente no te diste cuenta sino es porque te muestran esa escena del pasado durante esos microsegundos, vistos a través de esa visión de ese otro personaje, cambiando, esta vez, de narrador.
I have told you other times, I love to detail the scenes and I notice a lot the changes they make with the camera, I don't understand much of that because I know very little about cinema, obviously, but since I like painting I can see clearly when they use a resource that allows you to focus on something very subtly or very exaggeratedly and if you take many photographs or paint many pictures throughout the film you will see the differences in the approaches they use throughout their journey, I think that's why I notice it so much, I try to imagine how it would be to paint that, without really doing it on purpose.
It's this kind of movies where they show you small details all of a sudden and then they amplify the whole scene as if telling you "focus on this, it's important" the director used this resource a lot, many camera movements that make you realize that the plot thread is there and that each thing has a relationship, even if many times it seems to get lost.
And why do I say "seems to get lost"? because of the way the film is narrated, I have always told you that I also detail that in the films, I like to see when they change the narration style, as well as when they change the narrator. In this case the director uses jumps in time as a kind of "Flashbacks" that make everything confusing, What was real? What wasn't? Is this vision that is being presented to me the real one of the whole thing? Or is it a hoax, am I being shown the conscious or the unconscious?
Of course, for some people this would be something annoying for any movie, but for a detective movie this is definitely a very well used resource because, maybe, that obviousness that you saw at the beginning was not so real, maybe they were deceiving you all the time and you simply didn't realize it but because they show you that scene of the past during those microseconds, seen through the vision of that other character, changing, this time, the narrator.
Hay otro recurso que me gustó en el film y es el sonido, la banda sonora de la película es ¡fenomenal! Es tan fenomenal que es ella la que a mi parecer te hace confundirte más, por momentos gracias a esos sonidos yo no sabía si lo que estaba viendo era un sueño o era algo real, no sabía si sentir tranquilidad o angustia, no sabía si sentir compasión por los personajes o rabia.
Todos los recursos audiovisuales fueron tan bien utilizados en la película, que me sentí completamente inmersa en ella y hasta los últimos segundos pensé que todo había sido imaginado y de repente aparecería el policía despertándose de un sueño profundo y todo había sido producto de su inconsciente por el problema de insomnio que tiene el personaje ¡Sí! ¡Así de loca se ve la película si realmente te dejas sumergir en ella!
Así que, mi querido Hiver, si al leer esa sinopsis que te puse, crees que es solo un film de suspenso y romance como esos otros muchos otros que ves por ahí todo el tiempo, créeme te vas a llevar una gran ¡gran sorpresa! y más con ese final que le dieron.
There is another resource that I liked in the film and it is the sound, the soundtrack of the film is phenomenal! It is so phenomenal that it is the one that in my opinion makes you more confused, at times thanks to those sounds I did not know if what I was seeing was a dream or something real, I did not know whether to feel calm or anguish, I did not know whether to feel compassion for the characters or rage.
All the audiovisual resources were so well used in the film, that I felt completely immersed in it and until the last seconds I thought that everything had been imagined and suddenly the policeman would appear waking up from a deep sleep and everything had been a product of his unconscious due to the insomnia problem that the character has... Yes! That's how crazy the film looks if you really let yourself get immersed in it!
So, my dear Hiver, if when you read that synopsis I gave you, you think it's just a suspense and romance film like those many others you see around all the time, believe me you're going to get a big surprise! and even more with that ending they gave it.
Jang Hae-jun (Park Hae-il)
Un detective casado con una vida un poco monótona, con problemas como los de cualquier ser humano que tiene muchos años en pareja, 16 años para ser exactos, intenta balancear su vida personal y laboral, como todos, pero difícilmente lo logra.
No hay pasado traumático, más que las escenas de crimen que ha tenido que ver en su trabajo, no hay antecedentes psicológicos personales importantes, aquí solo hay un hombre de carne y hueso al que, en vista a su actualidad conyugal, se le dificulta dibujar una línea de separación entre lo que debe y no debe con otra mujer que no es su esposa.
Todo esto inicia una serie en cadena que terminará desdibujando todo lo que considera bueno o malo en su vida marital, el problema se amplifica cuando esta falta de límites y claridad en su vida personal traslada toda esta confusión a su vida laboral y ¡definitivamente! En alguien que imparte la ley, esto es ¡muy malo! ¿Sabrá balancearlo? ¿Recobrará su claridad? Tienes que ver las 2 horas y media de película para saberlo.
El actor Hae-il realmente hace un excelente papel, podemos sentir su confusión y su discusión interna entre lo que debe y no debe hacer, la mayoría de las veces sus actos no dicen mucho, pero su cara y sus expresiones sí, la desesperación, la rabia y el dolor que transmite realmente traspasa la pantalla, aun cuando solo haya un acercamiento leve entre los personajes hasta que se dé cuenta de que perdió completamente el control de la situación.

Actor Hae-il really does an excellent role, we can feel his confusion and internal discussion between what he should and shouldn't do, most of the time his actions don't say much, but his face and expressions do, the desperation, anger and pain he conveys really pierces the screen, even if there is only a slight rapprochement between the characters until he realizes he completely lost control of the situation.

Una mujer extranjera que ha debido pasar una vida difícil desde que tuvo que salir de China y mudarse a Corea del Sur, es enigmática, compleja, a diferencia del detective Hae-il, ella sí tiene antecedentes psicológicos importantes, sí tiene muchos traumas del pasado que la harán decantarse por mantener relaciones con determinadas personas, ese pasado la ha vuelto diferente al resto, todo en sus actuaciones tiene un por qué, y es un por qué ¡complejo! ¡tan complejo! que es difícil de entender si no ves las dos horas y media de película.
La actuación de esta chica Tang Wei ¡me encantó! no la conocía y desde ya me convertí en su fan, lo que es obvio a simple vista termina siendo una confusión, para terminar siendo otra vez lo obvio y volver nuevamente al círculo vicioso, todo esto se logra gracias a su actuación, es ella la que imprime con sus expresiones y la forma de comunicarse toda la confusión y hace que sea tan difícil leer al personaje y saber si realmente es el culpable, pero no me malinterpreten, eso no es malo, al contrario, lo hace muy bien, es una psique un poco trastornada, pero no por lo que tú piensas o ¿tal vez sí? Tienes que ver la película para entender de qué te hablo.
Solo debes saber que es un personaje realmente muy complejo, recubierto de muchas capas, capas que se van quitando una a una en el transcurrir de la película y que, a medida que vayan cayendo, te harán darte cuenta de que todo en sus actuaciones desde un principio tuvieron su razón de ser y, tal vez, eso que pensaste al comienzo, en la mitad, o casi al final, definitivamente no era la realidad, porque créeme vas a cambiar mucho de parecer con respecto a ella.
A foreign woman who has had a difficult life since she had to leave China and move to South Korea, she is enigmatic, complex, unlike detective Hae-il, she does have an important psychological background, she does have many past traumas that will make her choose to maintain relationships with certain people, that past has made her different from the rest, everything in her actions has a why, and it is a complex why! so complex! that it is difficult to understand if you don't watch the two and a half hours of the movie.
The performance of this girl Tang Wei I loved it! I didn't know her and I already became her fan, what is obvious at first sight ends up being a confusion, to end up being again the obvious and return again to the vicious circle, all this is achieved thanks to her acting, she is the one who prints with her expressions and the way she communicates all the confusion and makes it so difficult to read the character and know if she is really the culprit, but don't get me wrong, that's not bad, on the contrary, she does it very well, she is a psyche a little disturbed, but not for what you think or maybe yes? You have to see the movie to understand what I'm talking about.
You just have to know that she is a really complex character, covered with many layers, layers that are removed one by one in the course of the film and that, as they fall, will make you realize that everything in her performances from the beginning had its reason to be and, perhaps, what you thought at the beginning, in the middle, or almost at the end, was definitely not the reality, because believe me you will change your mind a lot about her.

Los sesgos, siempre que veo este tipo de films recuerdo un elemento que nos enseñan cuando aprendemos de psicología y psiquiatría, para la gente es muy fácil pedirles a otros que intenten ser objetivos porque su trabajo lo amerita, pero ¿Realmente puede el ser humano ser completamente objetivo? ¿Puedes dividir tu psique y evitar que lo que has visto y vivido no influencie tus decisiones y actuaciones porque tu trabajo lo amerita?
Una de las razones fundamentales por las cuales no se les pide a las personas que tomen la justicia por sus propias manos es porque no pueden separar esos sesgos, pero ¿Están seguros que quienes imparten la ley, no los tienen tampoco? ¿Estás seguro de que ellos siempre toman las decisiones que deberían? ¿Quién nos da constancia de eso? Si el caso solo es investigado por una sola persona y no llega a un tribunal, a menos que sea necesario, ¿Están 100% seguros de que esa persona hace lo correcto? ¿Él no tuvo sesgos?
El amor te ciega por completo. Es una frase que siempre leemos por ahí y siempre la he puesto en duda ¿Es en serio que no puedes ver nada por un amor? Lo pongo en duda, para mí ¡sí lo ves! solo que te decides engañar a ti mismo y bloquear conscientemente eso que ves porque te causa daño, por eso al darnos cuenta de la realidad de repente llegan todas esas imágenes a nuestra mente de situaciones entrelazadas que quisimos ocultar, siempre lo supimos, solo intentamos engañar a nuestro inconsciente y culpamos a nuestra retina y a nuestro "corazón" por eso que adrede no quisimos ver.
"Siempre me tocan las mismas parejas tóxicas, por eso estoy desilusionado", otra frase que siempre leo por ahí ¿De verdad es que a tu vida solo llegan ese tipo de personas? O ¿Es que tú también tienes algo de culpabilidad en esa selección? Pendiente con este factor, porque puede que estemos repitiendo patrones sin darnos realmente cuenta, algunos creen que no merecen otra cosa o hay algo en sí que los hace repetir el patrón se forma inconsciente, busquen ayuda psicológica ¡créanme! van a descubrir algunas cosas que los dejarán perplejos sobre culpabilidades.
- The biases, whenever I watch this type of film I am reminded of an element that we are taught when we learn psychology and psychiatry. It is very easy for people to ask others to try to be objective because their work merits it, but can human beings really be completely objective? - "I always get the same toxic partners, that's why I'm disillusioned", another phrase that I always read around. Is it true that only that kind of people come into your life? Or is it that you also have some guilt in that selection? Be careful with this factor, because we may be repeating patterns without really realizing it, some believe they do not deserve anything else or there is something in themselves that makes them repeat the pattern unconsciously, seek psychological help, believe me! you will discover some things that will leave you perplexed about guilt.
¿Me gustó la película? me gustó, es una belleza artística que todo el que ame el cine ¡debe ver!
¿La recomendaría? tengo algunas personas en mente que sé que les gustará, pero tengo muchas otras más también, que siento que podrían odiarla porque, tal vez, la consideren muy lenta.
¿La vería otra vez? ¡Totalmente! es una película con tantos detalles, que vale la pena verla muchísimas veces y admirar cada recurso con detenimiento, son muchísimos y muy bien utilizados.

Would I recommend it? I have some people in mind that I know will like it, but I have many others as well, that I feel might hate it because they might find it too slow.
Would I watch it again? Totally! It's a movie with so many details, that it's worth watching it many times and admire every resource carefully, there are so many and very well used.
