Greetings dear community of moviegoers! Today I bring you a movie that I had been wanting to see for a while (as another list of 500 =/) but that did not end up motivating me enough, I do not know why and now I regret not having seen it before. And I had already been told that it takes into account a super interesting topic in medicine, and that's why it caught my attention beforehand, but believe it or not the fact that it touches on medical topics is not something I look for in movies, however this specific topic is, because I had not heard about it for a long time and as I always say one of the things I like most about cinema, besides being one of the best art forms, is its ability to educate, so once and for all it would allow me to refresh my knowledge on the medical topic it touches on.
This movie was nominated for the Oscar 2022 with 12 nominations, one of the few movies with so many nominations, and I feel, ironically, that this reason was the one that made me stay away, even more, from wanting to see it! prior to this I had already read 1 review a few months ago around here from someone who liked the movie, plus the guys on the Film Community Podcast talked about it, so I was seriously really, really looking forward to seeing it, but then they named the Oscar nominees and, sadly, since the Oscars lost total credibility for me, I developed a certain dislike for the movies they chose, which is kind of absurd because I already knew I wanted to see the movie long before that, but well, that's the reason why I waited so long to see it.
So, I finally bring you my review, long time after it was released on Netflix and quite some time after the long awaited Oscar Ceremony took place, time that allowed me to overcome such nonsense from my subconscious of hating those awards, and is that some years ago I was one of the first ones who was waiting for these nominations and I put up with the whole ceremony, even though it was always extremely boring, but I didn't care, I loved the films and the actors, however, some years ago the jury was in charge of spoiling everything by choosing films only based on political, economic and social interests, leaving the value of art, which should be the main thing, and since then I feel this rejection to the films that are nominated because of them! An absurd rejection, I recognize it, because the films have nothing to do with what they do and much less when everyone knew, beforehand, that the film was very good! but what can I say... that's me, so well, after this analysis of myself and my problem of hatred to those juries, I come to talk about the film The Power of the Dog.
¡Saludos querida comunidad de espectadores del Cine! El día de hoy les traigo una película que tenía ya rato queriendo ver (como otra lista de 500 =/) pero que no terminaba de motivarme lo suficiente, no sé por qué y ahora me arrepiento de no haberla visto antes. Y es que ya me habían contado que toma en cuenta un tema súper interesante en medicina, y ya por ahí me llamaba la atención de antemano, pero aunque no lo crean el que tocara temas médicos no es algo que busco en las películas, sin embargo este tema en específico sí, porque tenía tiempo sin escuchar hablar de él y como siempre digo una de las cosas que más me gusta del cine, además de ser una de las mejores forma de arte, es su capacidad de educar, así que de un vez me permitiría refrescar mis conocimientos sobre el tema médico que toca.
Esta película fue nominada al Oscar 2022 con 12 nominaciones, una de las pocas películas con tantas nominaciones, y siento, irónicamente, que ¡esta razón fue la que me hizo alejarme, aún más, de querer verla! anterior a esto ya había leído 1 reseña hace unos meses por aquí de alguien que le había gustado la película, además los chicos en el Podcast de la Comunidad de cine hablaron de ella, por lo que, en serio, tenía muchísimas ganas de verla, pero entonces nombraron a los nominados al Óscar y, tristemente, desde que los Óscar perdieron total credibilidad para mí, desarrolle cierto rechazo a las películas que ellos escogían, lo cual es algo absurdo porque ya sabía que quería ver la película mucho antes de eso, pero bueno, esa es la razón por la cual esperé tanto para verla.
Así que, por fin les traigo mi reseña, mucho tiempo después que fue estrenada en Netflix y bastante tiempo después que se dio la tan esperada Ceremonia de los Oscar, tiempo que me permitió vencer semejante tontería de mi subconsciente de odio a esos premios, y es que algunos años atrás yo era de las primeras que estaba esperando estas nominaciones y me aguantaba toda la ceremonia, aun cuando era extremadamente aburrida siempre, pero no me importaba, amaba las películas y los actores, sin embargo, hace algunos años el jurado se encargó de echar a perder todo por escoger películas solo basándose en intereses políticos, económicos y sociales, dejando de último el valor al arte, que debería ser lo principal, y desde entonces siento este rechazo a las películas que nominan ¡por su culpa! un rechazo absurdo, lo reconozco, porque las películas nada tienen que ver con lo que ellos hagan y mucho menos ¡cuando todo el mundo sabía, de antemano, que la película era muy buena! pero que les puedo decir…así soy, entonces bueno, después de este análisis de mi misma y mi problema de odio a esos jurados, les vengo hablar de la película El poder del Perro.
The movie is about the life of 2 brothers totally different from each other, as much as water and oil, George and Phil, owners of a large and very fruitful cattle ranch in a desert in Montana, both know how to deal very well with each other even though they are very different, they already know each other well enough and are their best company because they have been alone for a long time and working with each other for their company; but as everything can't be like this forever, one day George realizes that he doesn't want to be without a female partner forever and starts courting Rose, a widowed woman who owns a restaurant and a kind of inn, who, in turn, has a son by her former partner named Peter.
Peter is in total contrast with the men of the town, a town characteristic of the wild west, with purely hypermasculine cowboy men, a society too closed and macho to accept a boy like Peter, who looks weak, educated and a little effeminate, generating the immediate rejection of Phil to meet him, who by his toxic masculinity makes fun of him, rejection that worsened when he learned that his mother, married his brother and, according to him, did it with the intention of keeping his money.
La película trata de la vida de 2 hermanos totalmente distintos uno de otro, tanto como el agua y el aceite, George y Phil, dueños de una gran ranchería ganadera muy fructífera en un desierto en Montana, ambos saben lidiar muy bien uno con el otro aun cuando son muy diferentes, ya se conocen lo suficiente y son su mejor compañía porque llevan mucho tiempo solos y trabajando uno con el otro por su empresa; pero como todo no puede ser así para siempre, un día George se da cuenta que no quiere estar sin una pareja femenina para siempre y empieza a cortejar a Rose, una mujer viuda dueña de un restaurante y de una especie de hostería, quien, a su vez, tiene un hijo de su antigua pareja llamado Peter.
Peter contrasta totalmente con los hombres del pueblo, un pueblo característico del salvaje oeste, con puros hombres vaqueros hipermasculinos, una sociedad demasiado cerrada y machista para aceptar a un chico como Peter, quien luce débil, educado y un poco afeminado, generando el rechazo inmediato de Phil al conocerlo, quien por su masculinidad tóxica se burla de él, rechazo que empeoró al enterarse de que su mamá, se casó con su hermano y, según él, lo hizo con la intención de quedarse con su dinero.
The plot then begins to unfold in the coexistence of Phil with the rejection of Rose for having married his brother George and later with the coming home of his son Peter, whom Phil despises for his effeminate characteristics, making the issue becomes increasingly untenable between all, until one of them gets the way to end all the drama.
I can't tell you more about the movie because otherwise I would give you too many Spoilers, just know that it is a movie you should see if you are not one of those who think that Wild West stories should only focus on cowboys and their archaic way of solving problems by just throwing shots at each other as fast as possible, this story has drama, it has an important psychological component, it has suspense, it has some science, it has a little bit of everything, and the least you will see are those shots, but you will be delighted with the story, the performances and how the whole plot unfolds in a place where you would least expect this to happen, which I assure you will leave you in shock! With its ending.
Comienza entonces a desenvolverse la trama en la convivencia de Phil con el rechazo hacía Rose por haberse casado con su hermano George y posteriormente con la venida a la casa de su hijo Peter, a quien Phil desprecia por sus características afeminadas, haciendo que el asunto se vuelva cada vez más insostenible entre todos, hasta que uno de ellos consiga la forma de acabar con todo el drama.
No les puedo contar más de la película porque si no les daría muchos Spoiler, solo deben saber que es una película que deben ver si no eres de los que piensa que las historias del lejano oeste solo se deben centrar en vaqueros y en su forma arcaica de resolver los problemas solo lanzándose tiros unos a otros lo más rápido posible, esta historia tiene drama, tiene un componente psicológico importante, tiene suspenso, tiene algo de ciencia, tiene un poco de todo, y lo que menos vas a ver son esos tiros, pero vas a quedar encantado con la historia que trata, las actuaciones y como se desenvuelve toda la trama en un lugar donde lo que menos esperarías es que sucediera esto que te aseguro te dejará en ¡shock! Con su final.

I loved the fact that they spent so much time explaining in detail the whole plot with each scene at the beginning of the film, and if you are a moviegoer like me, you will realize from minute zero that you can not miss a second of the dialogues, There are phrases here and there that if you are agile enough you will notice how they all fit perfectly, as no word said in this movie was put at random, on the contrary, it is full of rhetoric so you can understand everything without realizing it. That's why I advise you not to get carried away by just one thing of what is happening, concentrate and you will find thousands of details and clues of what really happens in the story throughout the film, especially through the images.
The development of the events makes you think at the beginning that it will be a story like any other you've seen of the Wild West, but in the course of the film you will realize that the turn it takes is so strong, you would never think that something like this could happen, or that this factor could be so decisive for the film, that, if you are not attentive to all the clues that I told you before, of which you should be aware, because if so, you will understand that the director put all those scenes, those dialogues and phrases, that seemed meaningless, with the intention that at the end you would say: I suspected it, but I never thought that such a thing could happen!
Me encantó el hecho de que se dedicaran tanto tiempo en ir explicando con lujo de detalles toda la trama con cada escena al inicio de la película, y es que si eres de los espectadores del cine como yo, te vas a dar cuenta desde el minuto cero que no puedes dejar pasar por alto ni un segundo de los diálogos, ninguna escenas, ni ninguna imagen, existen frases por aquí y por allá que si eres lo suficientemente ágil vas a notar cómo todas encaja a la perfección, como ninguna palabra dicha en este película fue puesta al azar, al contrario, está llena de retórica para que puedas entender todo sin que te des cuenta. Por eso te aconsejo que no te dejes sólo llevar por solo una cosa de lo que va sucediendo, concéntrate y podrás encontrar miles de detalles y pistas de lo que realmente ocurre en la historia en todo el marco de la película, sobre todo a través de las imágenes.
El desarrollo de los hechos te hace pensar al inicio que será una historia como otra que hayas visto del lejano oeste, pero en el transcurrir de la película te darás cuenta de que el giro que da es tan fuerte, que nunca pensarías que podía pasar algo así, ni que ese factor podría ser tan decisivo para la película, eso, si no estás atento a todas las pistas que te dije con anterioridad, de las que debes estar pendiente, porque si es así, entenderás que la directora puso todas esas escenas, esos diálogos y frases, que parecieran sin sentido, con toda la intención de que al final dijeras ¡lo sospeché, pero nunca creí que podría hacer semejante cosa!
I must say that the synopsis you find on Netflix caught my attention when I read it, that of brothers with personalities like water and oil makes me a lot of noise and is that I have brothers like that and probably not the only one, however when you start watching the movie and analyze the characters in depth you immediately realize that here there are not only significant differences between the two brothers, as in many others, here there is a serious codependence of Phil with his brother George.
Debo decir que la sinopsis que encuentras en Netflix me llamaba la atención cuando la leí, eso de hermanos con personalidades como el agua y el aceite me hace mucho ruido y es que tengo hermanos así y probablemente no sea la única, sin embargo cuando empiezas a ver la película y analizar a profundidad a los personajes te das inmediatamente cuenta de que aquí no solo hay diferencias significativas entre ambos hermanos, como en muchos otros, aquí hay una seria codependencia de Phil con su hermano George.
PHIL (Played by Benedict Cumberbatch).
And the fact is that both brothers feel equally lonely, but especially Phil feels more lonely, a loneliness that he has been able to hide very well under his mask of arrogance, arrogance and hostility; we see how Phil seems to be very sociable and get along well with others, but he has episodes of impulsivity and verbal aggressiveness quite evident, which already make you think that, ultimately, not everything in him is what it seems, this man is hiding something, something that causes him discomfort or pain, whatever, but something that he wants to hide with that unbearable personality, you do not know what it is, but something in you tells you that he hides it, you can even see it in the way he dresses, He refuses to change his clothes even in situations that merit it, even when he is one of the owners of the big ranch, he would have no reason to look like that, but he wants to impose his decision and go against his family as a way of revealing himself against them and mimic his surroundings.
Y es que ambos hermanos se sienten igual de solos, pero en especial Phil siente mayor soledad, una soledad que ha sabido muy bien ocultar bajo su máscara de soberbia, arrogancia y hostilidad; vemos como Phil parece ser muy sociable y llevarse bien con los demás, pero tiene episodios de impulsividad y agresividad verbal bastante evidentes, que ya te hacen pensar que, en definitiva, no es todo en él lo que parece, este hombre oculta algo, algo que le genera molestia o dolor, lo que sea, pero algo que él quiere ocultar con esa personalidad insoportable, no sabes que es, pero algo en ti te dice que lo oculta, incluso lo puedes ver en su forma de vestir, de como él quiere autoimponerse una forma de ser, porque es el patrón que predomina a su alrededor, es el que él quisiera ser, se niega a cambiar su vestimenta aun en situaciones que lo ameritan, aun cuando él siendo uno de los dueños de la gran ranchería, no tendría por qué lucir así, pero él quiere imponer su decisión y llevarle la contraria a su familia como una forma de revelarse contra ellos y mimetizarse con su alrededor.
GEORGE (Played by Jesse Plemons).
Unlike Phil, George seems to be a quiet person, extremely polite and understanding, he is the one in charge of the administrative work, while his brother does the manual labor, George notices that Phil has serious emotional problems, and even hints in the film that he knows the reason for them, but both have decided to keep that secret hidden for both their sakes, because George knows what it would mean for Phil to bring that secret to light.
George loves his brother, but he knows that his brother's personality is very difficult and he knows that at some point he must start a family and not just live forever with him, so, as he begins to court Rose, he notices Phil's rejection of her and the foul language with which he begins to communicate with him, but he is so used to his brother and, besides, he knows very well what his words mean, so much that we can see him impassive in front of his rejection and forgives him, he just decides to ignore his opinions and follows his heart no matter that, without even asking his opinion, one day he decides to get married and that's it, he gives the news to Phil leaving him in Shock.
A diferencia de Phil, George parece una persona tranquila, al extremo educado y comprensivo, es el que se encarga del trabajo administrativo, mientras su hermano del trabajo manual, George nota que Phil tiene problemas serios emocionales, e incluso hacen entrever en la película que él sabe la razón de estos, pero ambos han decidido mantener oculto ese secreto por el bien de ambos, porque George sabe lo que significaría para Phil sacar ese secreto a la luz.

ROSE (Played by Kirsten Duns).
On the other hand, we have Rose, a woman who is used to working, getting ahead alone with her son, and trying to defend him from the cowboys in town, who evidently notice that her son is different from the others and make fun of him. Rose tries to protect her son, but she is afraid that they might hurt him, so she suffers for him because they are living in a very difficult historical moment and in a place too macho for anyone to get used to it, and although Peter has not fully accepted being homosexual, she shows him off by how he acts and what he likes to do, causing her deep pain that someone might hurt him.
That is why the arrival of both of them to the house of the brothers George and Phil represents so much tension for Rose, who goes from being a single, hardworking, independent and self-confident woman, to a woman with many fears and insecurities, falling prey to too much anxiety and panic attacks, attacks that end up making her take refuge in alcohol to try to forget everything she is seeing and knows that represents danger for her son and herself; Phil is a cruel man, he makes fun of her son, he calls her interested in the family money, he basically tells her that she is a badly educated, divorced woman who does not deserve her brother and that, in addition, she has an effeminate son.
Rose lives under this constant worry of Phil's treatment towards her son, not so much towards her, it is towards her son that worries her, and that is what ends up making her collapse, because she doesn't know what it could end up in, what is Rose so afraid of, what does Rose think Phil could do towards her son? Or is the reason for her fear something else?
Por otro lado, tenemos a Rose, una mujer acostumbrada a trabajar, a salir adelante sola con su hijo, y tratar de defenderlo de los vaqueros del pueblo, quienes evidentemente notan que su hijo es distinto a los demás y se burlan de él. Rose trata de proteger a su hijo, pero le da miedo que puedan hacerle daño, por lo que sufre por él porque están viviendo en un momento histórico muy difícil y en un lugar demasiado machista como para que alguien se acostumbre a él, y aunque Peter no ha aceptado del todo ser homosexual, ella lo presume por como actúa y por lo que le gusta hacer, causándole un profundo dolor que alguien pueda hacerle daño.
Por eso la llegada de ambos a la casa de los hermanos George y Phil representa tanta tensión para Rose, quien pasa de ser una mujer soltera, trabajadora a independiente y segura de sí misma, a una mujer con muchos miedos e inseguridades, cayendo presa de demasiada ansiedad y ataques de pánico, ataques que terminan haciendo que se refugie en el alcohol para tratar de olvidar todo lo que está viendo y sabe que representa peligro para su hijo y para ella misma; Phil es un hombre cruel, se burla de su hijo, la llama a ella interesada en el dinero de la familia, básicamente le dice que es una mal educada, una mujer divorciada que no merece a su hermano y que, además, tiene un hijo afeminado.
Rose vive bajo esa preocupación constante del trato de Phil hacia su hijo, no tanto hacia ella, es hacia su hijo que le preocupa, y es eso lo que termina haciendo que ella colapse, porque no sabe en qué puede terminar eso ¿A que le tiene tanto miedo Rose?, ¿Que piensa Rose que puede hacer Phil hacia su hijo? O ¿Es otra cosa la razón de su miedo?
PETER (Played by Kodi Smit-McPhee).
Peter is a boy who has become accustomed to living with different characteristics than others in a town where machismo reigns, he knows he is different and does not try to hide it, he tries to help his mom after he lost his dad, he is supposed to protect his mom, his dad let him know before he left, he knows his role with his mom, but once his mother gets married, he is sent to study medicine out of town and cannot protect her.
When Peter returns for vacation Peter must deal again with the taunts of the men of the ranch, the hostility of Phil, and finds his mother in a state of emotional collapse, plunged into alcoholism as a protective measure for the fight with Phil and what it means for a woman of low social class to be suddenly included in a high social class, a class to which she never belonged, so Peter thinks he must fight for both, he must protect his mother as his dad let him know.
Peter es un chico que se ha acostumbrado a vivir con características distintas a los demás en un pueblo donde impera el machismo, él sabe que es diferente y no intenta ocultarlo, intenta ayudar a su mamá después de que perdió a su papá, se supone que él debe proteger a su mamá, así se lo hizo saber su papá antes de irse, él sabe cuál es su rol con su mamá, pero una vez que su madre se casa, él es enviado a estudiar Medicina fuera de la ciudad y no puede protegerla.
Al regresar por periodos vacacionales Peter debe lidiar nuevamente con las burlas de los hombres de la ranchería, de la hostilidad de Phil, y encuentra a su madre bajo un estado de colapso emocional, sumida en el alcoholismo como medida de protección por la lucha con Phil y por lo que significa para una mujer de clase social baja incluirse de forma súbita en una clase social alta, clase a la que ella nunca perteneció, así que Peter se plantea que debe luchar por los dos, debe proteger a su mamá como se lo hizo saber su papá.
It's amazing how you can do with such a simple setting such spectacular things, and when I mean simple is that they only used nature to amplify all the beauty of the film, when I see these movies I wonder if really in the book, where they got it, they describe that setting in such a wonderful way or just came from the mind of the director and that I would love to have that degree of imagination just to paint it, how do they do to find those places that literally look like a picture of a postcard? I will never understand.
In a setting so vast that makes the characters look tiny, with huge empty spaces that allow you to better appreciate the performances and the characters, because there is nothing that makes you divert your attention from their expressions and their looks more than the wonderful background of the nature behind them, but far from these scenes where they focus on the characters, you can find significance in every frame of scene including the places where they include props, because nothing that is placed in those scenes is random and when you correlate the dialogues with that, you realize that seriously this director Jane Campion is a genius and she deserves all the recognition in the world for the work she did in putting together so many details to create those sets, and then I regained a little faith in the Oscars when I remembered that they gave her the award for Best Cinematography Director of 2022.
The color palette, whenever I talk about this in the details to highlight of some movies I say that surely nobody cares about this factor, but I do, and that's why I put it, and it is that the colors of this film immediately take you back to the time in which the story was supposed to be developed, the photography of this film is of ANOTHER level, a thing masterfully achieved in sepia tones with gradients of brown and beige colors that leave you stunned with beauty and also highlighted with a spectacular set of lights in some scenes.
At the beginning of the film, in particular, there is a scene where we can see how a rainbow is reflected on Peter, it seems a simple thing and lasts only seconds, a few seconds in which you can turn your face and miss it, but it is those little things that allow you to stand out like nothing, but nothing! in this film is made by chance, everything is perfectly thought out and, I repeat, if you are agile enough you will notice it even among the lights and shadows, this scene that I tell you is an example of how light has so much meaning, but there are countless other scenes where shadows and lights play super important roles and highlight the beauty of the staging.
Es increíble cómo puedes hacer con una ambientación tan sencilla cosas tan espectaculares, y cuando me refiero a sencilla es que solo usaron la naturaleza para amplificar toda la belleza del film, cuando veo estas películas me pregunto si en verdad en el libro, de donde la sacaron, describen esa ambientación de esa forma tan maravillosa o solo provino de la mente de la directora y que me encantaría tener ese grado de imaginación solo para pintarlo, ¿Cómo hacen para encontrar esos lugares que literalmente parecen una fotografía de una postal? Nunca lo entenderé.
En una ambientación tan vasta que hace que los personajes se vean diminutos, con enormes espacios vacíos que te permiten apreciar mejor las actuaciones y a los personajes, porque no hay nada que te haga desviar la atención de sus expresiones y sus miradas más que el fondo maravilloso de la naturaleza que tienen detrás, pero lejos de estas escenas donde enfocan a los personajes, tú puedes encontrar significancia en cada cuadro de escena incluyendo los lugares donde incluyen utilería, porque nada de lo que está puesto en esas escenas está al azar y al correlacionar los diálogos con eso, te das cuenta de que en serio esta directora Jane Campion es una genialidad y que se merece todo el reconocimiento del mundo por el trabajo que hizo al juntar tantos detalles para crear esos conjuntos, y entonces recobré un poco de fe en los Óscar al recordar que le dieron a ella el premio como mejor Director de Cine del 2022.
La paleta de colores, siempre que hablo de esto en los detalles a resaltar de algunas películas digo que de seguro a nadie le interesa este factor, pero a mí sí, y por eso lo coloco, y es que los colores de esta película inmediatamente te remontan a la época en la que se supone fue desarrollada la historia, la fotografía de esta película es de OTRO nivel, una cosa magistralmente lograda en tonos sepias con degradados de colores marrones y beige que te dejan anonadado de la belleza y que además resaltan con un juego de luces espectaculares en algunas escenas.
Al inicio de la película, en especial, hay una escena donde podemos ver como sobre Peter se refleja un arcoíris, parece una cosa sencilla y dura solo segundos, unos segundos en los que puedes voltear la cara y perdértelo, pero son esas pequeñas cosas las que te permiten resaltar como nada, pero ¡nada! en esta película está hecha el azar, todo está perfectamente pensado y, repito, si eres lo suficientemente ágil lo vas a notar incluso entre las luces y las sombras, esta escena que te digo es un ejemplo de cómo la luz tiene tanto significado, pero hay innumerable cantidad de escenas más donde las sombras y las luces juegan papeles súper importantes y resaltan la belleza de la escenificación.
From the beginning of the movie they tell you everything, but in a very unobvious way, I love how they used this resource in this movie and if you are an animal rights advocate you will not want to see this movie, because you see cattle being butchered everywhere and you wonder what the hell is this, why be so grotesque, what need did they have in this film to show this, and then you understand...Phil at the beginning says that the sick cattle must stay away from the healthy ones so they don't get sick with a deadly disease that is attacking cattle, which is anthrax. They constantly show how Phil is the one doing the dirty work throughout the movie when it comes to killing the animals to sell the meat, removing the skins, working the hide, even castrating the animals in the cruelest and crudest way possible; and that's where you get it all, the cattle represent society and those sick cattle represent the homosexuals that Phil hates; but, at the same time that he hates them, he enjoys the cruelty of killing those healthy animals and castrating them, it's as if he himself is rebelling against that same society, even once he has the cattle hide, which, by the way, he can make a lot of money from if he sells it, he doesn't do it, he just burns it, he enjoys just burning it.
Phil likes to be full of blood, of dirt, of earth, of all that which represents the cattle that he himself kills, not so the sick cattle, which he says he never touches, and we are talking about a disease that is easily contagious among the rest of the animals, but he knows that those animals are far away, he knows that they are on the other side of the ridge and he does not usually go there.

Desde el principio de la película te cuentan todo, pero de forma muy poco evidente, me encanta como usaron este recurso en esta película y es que si eres un defensor de los derechos de los animales no vas a querer ver esta película, porque es que ves ganado descuartizado por todos lados y te preguntas ¿pero que rayos es esto?, ¿Por qué ser tan grotescos?, ¿Qué necesidad tenían en este film de mostrar esto? Y entonces lo entiendes…Phil al inicio dice que el ganado enfermo debe alejarse de los sanos para que no se enfermen con una enfermedad mortal que está atacando el ganado, que es el ántrax.
Constantemente muestran como Phil es el que hace el trabajo sucio en toda la película a la hora de matar los animales para vender la carne, quitarles las pieles, trabajar el cuero, incluso castrando a los animales de la forma más cruel y cruda posible; y es ahí donde lo entiendes todo, el ganado representa la sociedad y ese ganado enfermo representa a los homosexuales que Phil odia; pero, a la vez que los odia, disfruta de la crueldad que significa matar esos animales sanos y castrarlos, es como si él mismo se revelara contra esa misma sociedad, incluso una vez que tiene el cuero del ganado, del que, por cierto, puede ganar mucho dinero si lo vende, él no lo hace, él solo lo quema, disfruta solo quemándolo.
A Phil le gusta estar lleno de sangre, de suciedad, de tierra, de todo eso que representa el ganado que él mismo mata, no así el ganado enfermo, a quien dice que jamás toca y es que estamos hablando de una enfermedad que es fácilmente contagiosa entre el resto de los animales, pero él sabe que esos animales están lejos, él sabe que están al otro lado del risco y no acostumbra ir hasta allá.
El significado de las montañas, el hecho de que demuestran como Phil podía ver una cosa en ese grupo montañas que le habían enseñado con anterioridad, pero que nadie más podía ver y que, incluso, a él mismo le costó al principio ver, es una cosa de admirar, cómo usaron esa metáfora para expresar tantas cosas, es como si Phil tuviera una forma de ver el mundo un poco distinta a los demás, una forma que pocos comprenden, pero esa imagen que él ve ahí es una representación de su verdadero yo, y es enorme, pero no ha podido compartir la visión con nadie más que su amigo Bronco H.
Los perros y el ganado en varios momentos en la película demuestran al ganado enorme y a diminutos perros por aquí y por allá y en especial durante la película hay una frase que te pone a pensar "¿es capaz el lobo de matar a un becerro?" Y la respuesta de Phil es sí, a veces cuando los becerros se fracturan las patas, o están enfermos pueden ser atacados por los perros lobos, tomen en cuenta esta frase en el film y recuerden cuando la leyeron en mi post y entonces sabrán lo que les quise decir aquí con esta metáfora.

So, when they told me about the movie, I thought about those two scenarios and I was surprised that they would play this topic in a cowboy movie and the Wild West haha (when I thought I was going to see a movie focused on that) when it is something that we have so long without hearing about, so I was interested from the beginning to understand several things, at times I was disappointed to think that there were people who were not infected with anthrax even when directly handling sick animals, and I said Na, this already lost credibility for me! But, then I understood.
I repeat, these are probably things that nobody cares about, like the color issue I told you above, but what can I tell you, I am a doctor and when movies blatantly lie to me about this kind of issues they lose interest for me, because I always say they didn't have the budget to hire a doctor to check the script, Really? So, yes, this got my attention, but in the end I understood that since he was so precise with how he made the cuts, because that's what he was specializing in, he knew what to touch and what not to touch, to prevent the spores from spreading.
So I ended up "half" forgiving the movie, because I still think that if they had put a mask on him it would have been more credible because it would have reduced the risk, but, anyway, I repeat, these are things that surely no one who sees the movie cares about, only me =P; but my analysis had an objective and that was to try to understand if he wanted to specialize in that, why he knew what he wanted to do in the future, since always, because of the disease that was attacking the animals and he wanted to help with that? Or because it was just by pure chance? I leave it to free interpretation for those who saw the movie and give me your opinion in the comments (enter emoji with wink).
Al comienzo al conocer un poco de esta película escuché que tocaba el tema del ántrax y no sabía exactamente de qué ántrax estábamos hablando y es que en medicina en Venezuela cuando hablamos de ántrax es algo que vemos con algo de frecuencia, bueno, no tan frecuente, pero es una lesión característica de una cepa de una bacteria bien frecuente que ataca la piel, fácilmente tratable, por cierto, gracias por supuesto al avance de la ciencia y con ella el advenimiento de los antibióticos. Anteriormente, como en la época en la que se desarrolla esta película, morían muchísimas personas al año producto de esta enfermedad fácilmente contagiable entre los animales y de ellos al ser humano, pero en la actualidad contamos con tratamientos bien efectivos que evitan que la enfermedad se disemine y se pueda complicar.
Sin embargo, en otras partes del mundo cuando hablan de ántrax la gente corre, y es que lo asocian con un arma biológica, no sé si recuerdan en Estados Unidos una serie de atentados que ocurrieron con ántrax en donde llegaban correos a destinatarios bien específicos con un polvo, dicho polvo terminó contagiando a un grupo de personas de una enfermedad mortal y matándolos en cuestión de días, pues ese ántrax también existe en medicina, pero es muy muy poco frecuente porque es una cepa demasiado infecciosa que no vemos con tanta regularidad, de hecho, contamos hasta con vacunas contra él, sí, vacunas como esas que se usan para evitar otras enfermedades mortales, pero en este caso casi nadie se la coloca por la poca frecuencia de la enfermedad y porque depende de la cepa que se desee atacar.
Así que, a mi cuando me hablaron de la película pensé en esos dos escenarios y me llamó la atención el hecho de que tocaran ese tema en una película de vaqueros y del lejano Oeste jaja (cuando pensé que iba a ver una película enfocada en eso) cuando es algo de lo que tenemos tanto tiempo sin escuchar hablar, por eso me interesó desde el principio entender varias cosas, por momentos estuve desilusionada al pensar que habían personas que no se contagiaban con ántrax aun cuando manipulaba directamente animales enfermos, y dije ¡Na, ya esto perdió credibilidad para mí! Pero, luego lo entendí.
Al final termine "medio" perdonando la película, porque igual creo que si le hubieran puesto una mascarilla hubiera sido más creíble porque habría disminuido el riesgo, pero, en fin, repito, son cosas que de seguro a nadie de los que ve la película, le importan, solo a mí =P; pero mi análisis tenía un objetivo y era tratar de entender si él se quiso especializar en eso ¿por qué sabía lo que quería hacer en el futuro, desde siempre?, ¿por la enfermedad que estaba atacando a los animales y quería ayudar con eso? O ¿porque simplemente fue por pura casualidad? se los dejo a libre interpretación para los que vieron la película y me den su opinión en los comentarios (ingrese emoji con giño).

Hagan énfasis al ver la película en los zooms que hace la directora donde muestran escenas bien específicas con mucha significancia, como cuando Phil pasa la mano mientras limpia la silla de montar de su amigo Bronco o cuando enfocan la piel de los animales, el trabajo del cuero, las moscas paradas en el lomo de los caballos, la habilidad manual que tiene Peter y que tuvo desde el principio cuando hacía flores de papel para adornar el restaurante de su mamá, las flores que sembraba Rose en esa tierra que parece sin importancia, esa sangre que cayó en esas espigas, es increíble pero cada uno de esos zooms tienen una un objetivo muy bien pensado, y es maravilloso de admirar como con solo imágenes transmiten tanto y dan tanta información, sin decir absolutamente nada, para el que no las percibe como debe.
