Resulta que hace mucho ésta serie fue estrenada y en su momento por alguna razón no les hable de ella, sin embargo estamos a pocos días de que se estrene su segunda temporada y me pareció oportunos traerles mi opinión acerca de ella, sobre todo porque en su momento era un proyecto que estaba esperando con bastantes ansías y que recuerdo me gustó mucho de manera general, obviamente hay detalles que no me agradaron del todo, pero en términos generales me agrado bastante, así que el día de hoy les hablaré sobre Sombra y Hueso 🎬.
It turns out that long ago this series was released and at the time for some reason I didn't talk about it, however we are a few days away from the premiere of its second season and I thought it was appropriate to bring you my opinion about it, especially because at the time it was a project that I was waiting with great anxiety and that I remember I liked a lot in general, obviously there are details that I didn't like at all, but in general terms I liked it a lot, so today I will talk about Shadow and Bone 🎬.
La serie fue estrenada el 23 de Abril del 2021, estaba basada en una combinación de dos dos libros de la autora Leigh Bardugo (Sombra y Hueso y Seis de Cuervos) y fue desarrollada por Eric Heisserer y distribuida por Netflix. La historia tiene lugar en un mundo de fantasía, Ravka es un país que se encuentra dividido en la mitad por una barrera tenebrosa llamada La Sombra, dentro de ésta barrera existen criaturas sobrenaturales que se alimentan de la carne humana, por lo que ningún ser humano que entre logra salir con vida. Sin embargo, un día una joven cartografa decide adentrarse en La Sombra junto a su amigo de la infancia, es allí en medio del inminentes peligro donde descubre el gran poder que vive en ella y que podría ser la clave para destruir ésta barrera.
The series premiered on 23 April 2021, was based on a combination of two books by author Leigh Bardugo (Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows) and was developed by Eric Heisserer and distributed by Netflix. The story takes place in a fantasy world, Ravka is a country that is divided in half by a shadowy barrier called The Shadow, inside this barrier there are supernatural creatures that feed on human flesh, so no human being who enters manages to get out alive. However, one day a young cartographer decides to enter The Shadow with her childhood friend, it is there in the midst of imminent danger where she discovers the great power that lives within it and that could be the key to destroying this barrier.
Recuerdo que cuando ví el tráiler la razón principal por la que me entusiasmo el estreno de la serie fue la aparición del actor Ben Barnes, en ésta historia él hace el papel del General Kirigan, un personaje bastante intrigante y con un aura misteriosa que genera enganche inmediato, mi intriga por saber ciertas cosas de la historia me llevaron a buscar los libros y leerlos, y debo decir que eso hizo que justamente el personaje mencionado anteriormente fuese mi favorito 🤭🤭. El General Kirigan forma parte de los personajes principales de ésta historia, la primera vez que aparece en escena es de espalda y desde ahí sabes que será alguien de aura misteriosa, la segunda vez que aparece en escena es justamente cuando conoce a nuestra protagonista Alina (Jessie Mei Li), y allí ya como espectador sabes que él será alguien importante en la historia y realmente es así. Desde que Alina es introducida a su nueva realidad, las interacciones entre ella y Kirigan se vuelven recurrentes e importantes, a medida que la historia avanza es bastante notable que entre ellos se construirá una relación que de alguna forma será trascendental si no fuese por los acontecimientos que ocurren después 🤣. Un aspecto que me gustó bastante de la historia es que se respetó mucho la escencia de su personaje, misterioso y magnético siempre fueron características que lo hacían resaltar en el libro y en la serie también ocurrió así, por ésta razón aquí también fue mi personaje favorito y el motivo por el que comienzo hablando de él en ésta opinión.
I remember when I saw the trailer the main reason why I was excited about the premiere of the series was the appearance of actor Ben Barnes, in this story he plays the role of General Kirigan, a very intriguing character with a mysterious aura that generates immediate hook, my intrigue to know certain things about the story led me to look for the books and read them, and I must say that this made the character mentioned above my favourite 🤭🤭🤭. General Kirigan is part of the main characters of this story, the first time he appears on the scene is from the back and from there you know he will be someone with a mysterious aura, the second time he appears on the scene is just when he meets our protagonist Alina (Jessie Mei Li), and there already as a viewer you know that he will be someone important in the story and it really is so. From the moment Alina is introduced to her new reality, the interactions between her and Kirigan become recurrent and important, as the story progresses it is quite noticeable that a relationship will be built between them that will somehow be transcendental if it wasn't for the events that happen later 🤣. One aspect that I liked a lot about the story is that the essence of his character was respected, mysterious and magnetic were always characteristics that made him stand out in the book and in the series it also happened this way, for this reason here he was also my favourite character and the reason why I start talking about him in this opinion.
Nuestra pequeña cartografa Alina Starkov, ella lleva el peso de ser una santa (así la ven los habitantes de Ravka), su poder era un mito que se extendió por tanto tiempo que se creyó que realmente no existía, así que cuando se descubrió que ella era la invocadora del sol se le consideró como una santa. Carga con el peso de una enorme responsabilidad, pues es la esperanza de poder volver a unir a un país que lleva decadas dividida por ésta barrera maligna, sin embargo es una Grisha completamente inexperta que no fue descubierta en la edad apropiada para ser entrenada debidamente, así que ahora debe entrenar al máximo y en el menor tiempo posible para poder ir y destruir a La Sombra. Su personaje realmente no es estresante, a veces las protagonistas de éstas historias suelen ser obstinantes, pero realmente Alina no lo es, por in momento en la historia podrías creer que es bastante testaruda y que se niega a aceptar su actual realidad, pero cuando recuerdas que es una chica que vivió toda su vida en un orfanato y que solo considera a una persona como familia, entonces entiendes que le sea tan difícil simplemente alejarse de su antigua vida. Eso sí, siento que en la serie es muy apresurado la forma en que de un momento a otro logra manejar sus poderes, no dan un espacio de logros progresivos si no que así porque sí logra maniobrarlos a la perfección.
Our little mapmaker Alina Starkov, she carries the burden of being a saint (so the people of Ravka see her), her power was a myth that was spread for so long that it was believed that it did not really exist, so when it was discovered that she was the summoner of the sun she was considered a saint. She carries the weight of a huge responsibility, as she is the hope of being able to unite a country that has been divided for decades by this evil barrier, however she is a completely inexperienced Grisha who was not discovered at the right age to be properly trained, so now she must train to the maximum and in the shortest time possible to be able to go and destroy The Shadow. Her character really isn't stressful, sometimes protagonists in these stories tend to be stubborn, but really Alina isn't, for a moment in the story you might think she's quite stubborn and refuses to accept her current reality, but when you remember that she's a girl who lived her whole life in an orphanage and only considers one person as family, then you understand why it's so hard for her to just walk away from her old life. I do feel that the series is very rushed in the way she manages to handle her powers from one moment to the next, they don't give a space of progressive achievements but just like that she manages to manoeuvre them to perfection.
Ahora bien, hablando justamente de la única persona que Alina considera familia, el personaje de Mal Oretsev (Archie Renaux) es mi personas menos favorita en los libros, pero en la película me agrada mucho, sí se ve ese apego entre él y Alina y no solo del lado de Alina como a veces se sentía en el libro, si no que genuinamente del lado de Mal también se ve esa fraternidad, de hecho se ve algo mas que una amistad 🤣 pero en ésta temporada no abarcaron esa parte y eso fue algo que también me gustó. En la serie Mal tiene mas escenas e incluso mas protagonismo que en el libro y eso es un aspecto que juega a su favor como personaje, porque te hace empatizar mas con él e incluso tomarle cariño, ahora esto no lo convierte en mi personaje favorito 🤣 ese puesto lo sigue ocupando Kirigan 🤣.
Now, talking about the only person that Alina considers family, the character of Mal Oretsev (Archie Renaux) is my least favourite person in the books, but in the movie I like him a lot, you can see that attachment between him and Alina and not only on Alina's side as sometimes felt in the book, but genuinely on Mal's side you can also see that brotherhood, in fact you see something more than a friendship 🤣 but in this season they didn't cover that part and that was something I also liked. In the series Mal has more scenes and even more prominence than in the book and that is an aspect that plays in his favor as a character, because it makes you empathize more with him and even take affection for him, now this does not make him my favorite character 🤣 that position is still occupied by Kirigan 🤣.
Como la serie está basada en dos libros, existen otros personajes que se podrían considerar principales, sin embargo a mi parecer la historia del libro de Sombra y Hueso es la que mas resalta, aunque yo no he leído el otro libro así que no puedo confirmar que realmente sea así, aún así los personajes que acabo de mencionar son los que a mi mas me resaltaron. Hay ciertos aspectos que no me gustaron tanto de la trama, casi todos relacionados con los cambios del libro a la serie, uno de ellos es que Alina divulgara el nombre real de Kirigan y que además éste se lo dijera tan pronto en la serie, porque en los libros ese momento era bastante especial, no obstante el cambio que mas me marcó y disgustó fue el cambio del amplificador de hueso, porque estéticamente se veía horrible 🤦🏻♀️, y entiendo que la intención quizás era demostrar la atrosidad de ese acto, pero es que yo siempre me imaginé un collar bien imponente no esa cosa fea que hicieron 🤣. Algo que de verdad merece su crédito es el apartado visual, los efectos especiales y el cuidado que tuvieron en el vestuario que era algo bastante característico de la historia, de hecho por un momento temía que el poder de Alina no se lograra ver bien en escena, pero como dije los efectos estuvieron muy bien cuidados.
As the series is based on two books, there are other characters that could be considered main characters, however in my opinion the story of the book of Shadow and Bone is the one that stands out the most, although I haven't read the other book so I can't confirm that this is really the case, even so the characters I just mentioned are the ones that stood out the most to me. There are certain aspects of the plot that I didn't like so much, almost all of them related to the changes from the book to the series, one of them is Alina divulging Kirigan's real name and Kirigan telling her so soon in the series, because in the books that moment was quite special, however the change that most marked and disgusted me was the change of the bone amplifier, because aesthetically it looked horrible 🤦🏻♀️, and I understand that the intention was perhaps to show the atrosity of that act, but I always imagined a very imposing necklace not that ugly thing they did 🤣. Something that really deserves credit is the visuals, the special effects and the care they took in the costumes, which was something quite characteristic of the story, in fact for a moment I was afraid that Alina's power would not be seen well on stage, but as I said the effects were very well cared for.
