Welcome dear samurai travelers of the internet and thank you very much for making a temporary stop in my post, there have been very few times in which I have seen old films and more than a year ago I saw a review on youtube of the film that today brings us together, the thing is that "Seven Samurais" is one of those films that makes you ignore the shortcomings of its production due to how old it is by having elements that work exceptionally. Without more than adding sharpen your swords that we must face some bandits.
Bienvenidos queridos samuráis viajeros del internet y muchas gracias por hacer una parada temporal en mi post, han sido muy pocas las veces en las que he visto filmes antiguos y hace ya más de un año vi una reseña en youtube de la cinta que hoy nos reúne, la cosa es que “Seven Samurais” es una de esas películas que te hace obviar las carencias de su producción debido a lo antigua que es al tener elementos que trabaja de manera excepcional. Sin más que agregar afilen sus espadas que debemos enfrentarnos a algunos bandidos.
Seven Samurais was released in 1954, directed by Akira Kurosawa and produced by Toho, has a duration of 3 hours and 27 minutes. It is a story of action and samurai, everything takes place in ancient Japan located in the 16th century, the peasants of a village are looted sporadically by a group of bandits, the patriarch of the village suggests that they hire samurai to protect them from their attackers, the problem with this is that they can only offer them food because they have nothing of greater value. The task is complicated but after much effort they manage to make a samurai named Kanbei feel sorry for the terrible situation suffered by the peasants and decides to help them get 6 other warriors who want to join them in a fight that will not bring them fame or fortune but for simple empathy.
Seven Samurais fue estrenada en 1954, dirigido por Akira Kurosawa y producida por Toho, posee una duración de 3 horas y 27 minutos. Es una historia de acción y samuráis, todo transcurre en el antiguo Japón ubicado en el siglo 16, los campesinos de un pueblo son saqueados esporádicamente por un grupo de bandidos, el patriarca del poblado sugiere que contraten a samuráis para que los protejan de sus atacantes, el problema con esto es que solo pueden ofrecerles comida debido a que no tienen nada de mayor valor. La tarea es complicada pero después de mucho esfuerzo logran que un samurái de nombre Kanbei siente pena por la situación tan terrible que sufren los campesinos y decide ayudarlos a conseguir otros 6 guerreros que quieran unírseles en una lucha que no les traerá fama ni fortuna sino por simple empatía.

The soundtrack is very beautiful, it is composed entirely of instrumental music that accompanies each of the relevant moments, and, when there is no kind of remarkable action, it simply serves as a pleasant setting that makes you feel within feudal Japan.
La banda sonora es muy hermosa, se compone en su totalidad de música instrumental que acompaña cada uno de los momentos relevantes, y, cuando no existe alguna clase de acción resaltable sencillamente funge como una ambientación agradable que te hace sentir dentro del Japón feudal.
The setting is very well achieved since that ancient scenario is very well developed both by the clothes of the time and the constructions in general, all this gives a context very consistent with the time it tries to represent leaving it as an extremely pleasant world. However, what I consider most important, it shows you the way of life of that moment, a time when the strongest could do whatever they wanted just by having enough weapons and men. To this we must add the fact that many of the scenes of the battle were recorded in mud and rain giving a wonderful realism to the film.
La ambientación está muy bien lograda puesto que ese escenario antiguo está muy bien desarrollado tanto por las vestimentas de la época como las construcciones en general, todo esto da un contexto muy acorde con la época que intenta representar dejándolo como un mundo sumamente agradable. Sin embargo, lo que considero más importante, te muestra la forma de vida de ese momento, un tiempo en donde el más fuerte podía hacer lo que quisiese solo por el hecho de contar con las armas y hombres suficientes. A esto hay que añadirle el hecho de que muchas de las escenas de la batalla fueron grabadas en lodo y con lluvia dándole un realismo maravilloso al filme.
The plot is quite slow and has a simple premise, that makes me say that this film is not for everyone, throughout its more than 3 hours it is giving relevance to the conflict that moves the film, making every little detail happen on camera causing preparation and strategy to be the main thing for combat; this is proven by the fact that 2 thirds of the film focuses on finding a way in which simple peasants can face their looters who have made their lives more difficult, this level of detail makes everything that happens feel plausible and that both successes and failures are only the result of the actions of the protagonists. At the same time, the film has many interesting messages: Putting collective benefit before individual benefit, an extremely remarkable message that union makes strength, that intelligence and cunning will always be of greater benefit, and the need to have commitment and faith in what you are doing so that it can produce good results.
La trama es bastante lenta y posee una premisa sencilla, eso me hace decir que este filme no es para todo el mundo, a lo largo de sus más de 3 horas va dándole relevancia al conflicto que mueve a la cinta, haciendo que cada pequeño detalle suceda en cámara provocando que la preparación y la estrategia sea lo primordial para el combate; lo anterior se comprueba con el hecho de que 2 tercios de la película se centra en buscar la forma en que simples campesinos puedan hacerle frente a sus saqueadores que les han hecho la vida más difícil, este nivel de detalle hace que cada cosa que pase se sienta plausible y que tanto los éxitos como los fracasos solo sean el resultado de las acciones de los protagonistas. A su vez el filme tiene muchos mensajes interesantes: El anteponer el beneficio colectivo por sobre el individual, un mensaje sumamente notable de que la unión hace la fuerza, que la inteligencia y la astucia siempre será de mayor provecho, y, la necesidad de tener compromiso y fe en lo que estás haciendo para que pueda producir buenos resultados.
I wanted to get to this section, since it is the one that best works the film, this is because it manages to highlight and make relevant both the 7 samurai and some peasants of the town. Mention that the film dedicates more than half of its duration to the preparation for battle but also that time is used to know different things about the characters, their stories, pasts and personality, one would think that with this extensive number of characters would not be given prominence to all but despite this it manages that each of the samurai has its moment to shine. Speaking of samurai another thing I like about their characterization is the fact that not everyone joins the cause for noble reasons, each one presents their own motivations: To perfect their sword skill, to want to go to battle again next to a friend, to learn how to be a samurai or to prove that you can be better than these, as you can see the reasons are diverse and that difference in motivations gives each one a level of depth and individuality that makes them very endearing.
Quería llegar a este apartado, ya que es el que mejor trabaja el filme, esto se debe a que logra destacar y hacer relevantes tanto a los 7 samuráis como a algunos campesinos del pueblo. Mencione que la cinta dedica más de la mitad de su duración a la preparación para la batalla pero también ese tiempo lo utiliza para conocer diferentes cosas de los personajes, sus historias, pasados y personalidad, uno pensaría que con esta extensa cantidad de personajes no se le daría protagonismo a todos pero pese a ello logra que cada uno de los samuráis tenga su momento de brillar. Hablando de los samuráis otra cosa que me gusta de su caracterización es el hecho de que no todos se unen a la causa por motivos nobles, cada uno presenta sus propias motivaciones: Perfeccionar su habilidad con la espada, querer ir a la batalla nuevamente al lado de un amigo, aprender a como ser un samurái o demostrar que se puede ser mejor que estos, como pueden ver las razones son diversas y esa diferencia en las motivaciones le da a cada uno un nivel de profundidad e individualidad que los hace muy entrañables.
Everything I mentioned before is very good but the best thing is that the film does not shake his pulse to kill one of these characters who lasted so long on screen and with whom you could easily have become fond of for his charisma or for his actions before and during the battle, the wonderful thing about this is that it reflects that risky life that the samurai had. On the other hand, people from the village also die with whom the viewer could also have sympathized with the personality they had, being in turn that the deaths of their companions affect those who continue in battle, showing that they created a bond for the time they spent together. Another success in terms of the characters is the fact that the film does not try to show anyone as totally innocent, in fact, on more than one occasion both the peasants and the samurai do or have done questionable things in order to show them as what they are, humans who make mistakes and who have done things not as honorable as would be expected.
Todo lo que mencione antes está muy bien pero lo mejor es que el filme no le tiembla el pulso para matar a uno de estos personajes que tanto tiempo duro en pantalla y con el que fácilmente te pudiste haber encariñado por su carisma o por sus acciones antes y durante la batalla, lo maravilloso de esto es que refleja esa vida arriesgada que tenían los samuráis. Por otro lado también mueren personas del pueblo con las cuales también podía el espectador haber simpatizado por la personalidad que tenían, siendo a su vez que las muertes de sus compañeros le afecta a los que continuan en la batalla, demostrando que crearon un lazo por el tiempo que pasaron juntos. Otro acierto en cuanto a los personajes es el hecho de que la película no intenta mostrar a nadie como totalmente inocente, de hecho, en más de una ocasión tanto los campesinos como los samuráis hacen o han hecho cosas cuestionables para así mostrarlos como lo que son, humanos que cometen errores y que han hecho cosas no tan honorables como se esperaría.
Seven Samurais is one of those jewels of time, although it is old it manages to stay interesting thanks to how well worked its characters are making you not know who will be the one who ends up feeling more relevant than you could have come to think at first as it is not known who may be the one who perishes during the battle. Those memorable characters are what make the film completely worthwhile and what also makes it deserve the greatest honor I can give it that they are a solid 7 stars out of 7, the film leaves an interesting final message and that is that the samurai help or destroy always lose because their comrades end up dead and the survivors only have the melancholy and a feeling of emptiness. A feature film that should be given a chance since it is so well done that it seems more like a recording of a real battle than a movie.
Seven Samurais es una de esas joyas del tiempo, pese a que es antigua logra mantenerse interesante gracias a lo bien trabajados que están sus personajes haciendo que no sepas quién será el que termine siento más relevante de lo que podrías haber llegado a pensar en un primer momento como tampoco se sabe quién pueda ser el que perezca durante la batalla. Esos personajes tan memorables son los que hacen que el filme valga completamente la pena y lo que también hace que merezca el mayor honor que pueda darle que son unas sólidas 7 estrellas de 7, la cinta deja un mensaje final interesante y es que así los samuráis ayuden o destruyan siempre pierden porque sus camaradas terminan muertos y los sobrevivientes solo les queda la melancolía y un sentimiento de vacío. Un largometraje al que deberían darle una oportunidad puesto que esta tan bien hecha que pareciera más una grabación de una batalla real que una película.
