Welcome dear internet travelers lovers of the paranormal and thank you very much for making a temporary stop in my post, for a while I wanted to see a classic film that almost everyone will know called "Poltergeist" but despite being an icon of horror movies I had not had the opportunity to take a look at a great classic. Without further ado, get ready for some paranormal events that we are about to begin.
Bienvenidos queridos viajeros del internet amantes de lo paranormal y muchas gracias por hacer una parada temporal en mi post, desde hace un tiempo he querido ver un filme clásico que casi todos conocerán llamado “Poltergeist” pero pese a ser un icono de las películas de terror no había tenido la oportunidad de darle un vistazo a un gran clásico. Sin más que agregar prepárense para algunos sucesos paranormales que estamos por comenzar.
Poltergeist was released in 1982, directed by Tobe Hooper and produced by Metro Goldwyn Mayer, and runs 1 hour and 54 minutes. It is a supernatural horror story, we are introduced to an American family that is living the dream since it moves to a new house and enjoy all the comforts of the time making their life very comfortable; however, sleep is interrupted when various paranormal events begin to occur as they become more frequent and violent, which undoubtedly affected the peace that the family had believed to obtain.
Poltergeist fue estrenada en 1982, dirigida por Tobe Hooper y producida por Metro Goldwyn Mayer, cuenta con una duración de 1 hora y 54 minutos. Es una historia de terror sobrenatural, se nos presenta a una familia americana que se encuentra viviendo el sueño puesto que se muda a una nueva casa y gozan de todas las comodidades de la época haciendo que su vida sea muy confortable; sin embargo, el sueño se ve interrumpido cuando diversos sucesos paranormales comienzan a ocurrir siendo que estos se vuelven más frecuentes y violentos, lo que sin duda alguna afectara la paz que había creído obtener dicha familia.

The soundtrack is what you can expect from a horror film, it generates some suspense but above all mostly melancholy since it does not seek to prepare the viewer for a scare but to keep him uneasy about the things that happen within the film.
La banda sonora es lo que puedas esperar de una película de terror, genera algo de suspenso pero sobre todo mayormente melancolía puesto que no busca preparar al espectador para un susto sino mantenerlo intranquilo por las cosas que pasan dentro del filme.
The construction of the world is strange since it first states that only the context will be inside the house because this is the only place where strange things happen; however, this does not mean that this scenario is detailed very well. Then, it raises a background that is where the spirits are but it is not very clear what that place means. So in the end you have scenarios that are flat and devoid of emotion because they are not given at any time some attention.
La construcción de mundo es extraña puesto que primeramente plantea que solo el contexto será dentro de la casa debido a que este es el único sitio donde ocurren cosas extrañas; sin embargo, esto no significa que se detalle muy bien dicho escenario. Luego, plantea un segundo plano que es en donde se encuentran los espíritus pero tampoco se deja muy claro que es exactamente lo que significa ese sitio. Por lo que al final se tienen escenarios que son planos y carentes de emoción debido a que no se les da en ningún momento algo de atención.
The plot is a roller coaster, first it shows the family seeing strange events in their house and showing a certain level of adaptation to these, being that it does not seek to be terrifying but disturbing. Quickly this is put aside to show more and more disturbing things and so the film escalates, although I must clarify that it is never really scary just unpleasant. The effects are not the best, it is more than clear from the go they will not be what, but to be a film that is 40 years old it looks quite decent. The main problem with the narrative is the fact that it becomes repetitive and extends much more than it should. Finally we have some plot twists and the resolution of the conflict being that both are quite unsatisfactory.
La trama es una montaña rusa, primeramente muestra a la familia viendo sucesos extraños en su casa y mostrando cierto nivel de adaptación a estos, siendo que no busca ser aterradora sino inquietante. Rápidamente esto se deja de lado para mostrar cosas cada vez más perturbadoras y así va escalando el filme, aunque debo aclarar que nunca es realmente aterrador solo desagradable. Los efectos no son los mejores, está más que claro desde el vamos no van a ser lo, pero para ser una cinta que tiene 40 años se ve bastante decente. El principal problema de la narrativa es el hecho de que se torna repetitiva y se extiende mucho más de lo que debería. Por último tenemos algunos giros argumentales y la resolución del conflicto siendo que ambos son bastante insatisfactorios.
I like how they establish the family members at first, after the phenomena become stronger they are presented as tired and disturbed individuals but in adaptation to these events, being a good contrast with the reaction of the other characters who are added later. Outside of their first reactions there is not much to highlight, they are quite flat and only suffer from the events, being that in some cases they sin of being too idiotic to be convenient with the narrative, as well as these lack a remarkable characterization through which you can empathize with the characters in some way.
Me gusta como establecen a los miembros de la familia en un primer momento, después de que los fenómenos se vuelven más fuertes estos se presentan como individuos cansados y perturbados pero en adaptación a dichos acontecimientos, siendo un buen contraste con la reacción de los otros personajes que son añadidos posteriormente. Fuera de sus primeras reacciones no hay mucho que destacar, son bastante planos y solo sufren por los sucesos, siendo que en algunos casos pecan de ser demasiado idiotas para ser conveniente con la narrativa, así como también estos carecen de una caracterización destacable mediante la cual se pueda empatizar con los personajes de alguna forma.
Poltergeist is a film that is great the fact of belonging to the horror genre, it makes the mistake of being unpleasant and not terrifying, added to the fact that it has a duration that feels excessive and that it does not know how to take advantage of correctly. That is why it deserves 2 stars out of 7, it has some good points but these are overshadowed by its shortcomings, I have to say that I expected more than one film considered "cursed".
Poltergeist es un filme que le queda grande el hecho de pertenecer al género del terror, comete el error de ser desagradable y no aterradora, sumado el hecho de que posee una duración que se siente excesiva y que no sabe aprovechar correctamente. Es por ello que merece 2 estrellas de 7, tiene algunos puntos buenos pero estos son opacados por sus carencias, he de decir que me esperaba más de una película considerada “maldita”.
