That is why when I found out that Guillermo del Toro made his own version of "Pinocchio" I did not lack the desire to see it and appreciate his version of this well-known classic. Bienvenidos queridos viajeros del internet amantes de la carpintería y muchas gracias por hacer una parada temporal en mi post, existen 2 cosas en la industria del cine que generan una cantidad gigante de expectativas y son: Un nombre conocido bien sea actor, escritor, director, entre otros; y, por otro lado, el hacer una nueva versión de un clásico. Es por ello que cuando me enteré de que Guillermo del Toro hizo su propia versión de "Pinocchio" no me faltaban las ganas para verla y apreciar su versión de este clásico tan conocido. Sin más que agregar prepárense para tallar madera que estamos por comenzar.

Es una animación de aventura y fantasía, la historia se centra en un pequeño pueblo montañoso a principios del siglo XX, en dicho pueblo vive Geppetto con su hijo Carlo, en plena época guerra ningún pueblo está a salvo y desgraciadamente una bomba le quita la vida al hijo del pobre carpintero dejándolo sumido en una profunda depresión pese a que los años pasasen, un año construye un niño de madera debido a su tristeza y a su borrachera, lo que esté no esperaba es que este cobrase vida gracias a que un espíritu sintió lástima por este, sin embargo el mundo tiene reglas y los objetos no tienen vida por una razón, esto hará que este pobre niño de madera deba enfrentarse a cosas muy difíciles tanto por el régimen que posee el país como por su condición no humana.

The soundtrack is magnificent, it manages to profess different emotions, from sadness and melancholy to happiness and relaxation, all always from a very classic style using soft instruments that help the music have its own pleasant character being that it fits perfectly to the needs of the film. I'm not a fan of musicals but I have to admit that it does it well, the songs last long enough for you to like them and not feel tedious, in turn the lyrics of them are important in most cases.
La banda sonora es magnífica, la misma logra profesar diferentes emociones, desde tristeza y melancolía hasta felicidad y relajación, todo siempre desde un estilo muy clásico utilizando instrumentos suaves que ayudan a que la música tenga su propio carácter agradable siendo que el mismo se acopla perfectamente a las necesidades del filme. No soy fanático de los musicales pero he de admitir que lo hace bien, las canciones duran lo suficiente para que te gusten y no se sientan tediosas, a su vez la letra de las mismas son importantes en la mayoría de los casos.

Desde hace años me considero un amante de la animación Stop-motion debido a que me encanta el tono artificial y único que le da a los filmes, es por ello que me parece maravilloso el uso de la misma para el filme. Inciso aparte he de recalcar que también le da al filme cierto aire lúgubre que le da a la cinta un toque que la hace destacar mucho más puesto que acompaña de buena forma el abanico de emociones que desea transmitir el mensaje del largometraje, esto se ve representado con su paleta de colores con predominación de tonos oscuros y opacos, dándole una personalidad seria al filme.

Me parece fantástico que la construcción de mundo haya aspirado a tanto, ubica al filme en una época de guerra y de fascismo italiano, siendo que ambos conceptos son cruciales para la trama, se desarrollan de buena forma debido a que los mismos dan forma a la trama y dando un contexto político interesante para los acontecimientos del filme. Fuera del contexto explícito y centrándome únicamente en los escenarios puedo decir que estos también son maravillosos, se mantiene una predominación de los escenarios oscuros, siendo un acierto, ya que se alinean con el mensaje que se transmite, pese a lo anterior también existen momentos en los cuales los escenarios son sumamente hermosos con los detalles adecuados para que tengan personalidad propia.

Something that I have to applaud is the way in which the film generates the moments, it takes its time to give them a start presenting the event in advance so that it has greater impact when developing them completely, these moments are largely emotional moments that do not feel forced or taken out of the sleeve; On the contrary, they are well thought out and even in some moments you know what is going to happen but despite this it is still emotional and the outcome is eagerly awaited. Finally I have to mention the messages so good that he handles, the fact that he speaks openly about death, depression and the weight borne by those people who see their loved ones leave seems extremely wonderful to me.
La trama es un platillo bien equilibrado debido a que contiene comedia, fantasía e incluso suspenso en algunos puntos, la narrativa se siente agradable puesto que va develando diferentes cosas y paulatinamente les da una explicación para que su mundo se sienta plausible debido a que no deja cavos sin atar haciendo que la historia se sienta completa. Algo que he de aplaudir es la forma en que genera los momentos el filme, se toma su tiempo para darles un inicio presentando el evento con antelación para que esté tenga mayor impacto a la hora de desarrollarlos por completo, dichos momentos son en gran medida momentos emotivos que no se sienten forzados o sacados de la manga; por el contrario, los mismos están bien pensados e incluso en algunos momentos se sabe lo que va a pasar pero pese a ello sigue siendo emotivo y se espera con ansias el desenlace. Por último he de mencionar los mensajes tan buenos que maneja, el hecho de que hable abiertamente sobre la muerte, la depresión y el peso que soportan aquellas personas que ven partir a sus seres queridos me parece sumamente maravilloso.

All this leaves us with leading characters who do their job of making the plot interesting well, having enough focus so that the things that happen to them feel important; the fact that the film mocks Mussolini and fascism gives it extra points.
Los personajes tienen en su mayoría una buena caracterización, evidentemente debo resaltar a Geppetto y Pinocchio porque son los más destacables, debido a que ambos presentan un desarrollo sencillo pero palpable que los hace sentir más memorables, el resto del elenco es carismático aunque no presenta mayor misterio; lo anterior incluye a los antagonistas, estos son los menos caracterizados debido a que son unidimensionales e intrascendentes, lo bueno es que no se les da una gran relevancia por lo que su falta de personalidad realmente no afecta mucho. Todo esto nos deja con personajes protagónicos que hacen bien su trabajo de hacer la trama interesante, teniendo el foco suficiente como para que las cosas que les pasen se sientan importantes; el hecho de que el filme se burle de Mussolini y del fascismo le da puntos extra.
Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro left me a good taste in my mouth, he dares to get out of the previously established by giving a darker and more sentimental tone to the film, his themes are serious and they work in a good way so that they have a correct development making their characters behave at the height to adapt to what the topics are treated demand. It is for all the above that I give it 5 stars out of 7, an excellent film that is a perfect mix between animation and reflection, ideal to enter a fantastic world that leaves one or another interesting conclusion about what life and death mean.
Pinocchio de Guillermo del Toro me dejó un buen sabor de boca, se atreve a salirse de lo previamente establecido al darle un tono más oscuro y sentimental al filme, sus temas son serios y se trabajan de buena forma para que los mismos tengan un correcto desarrollo haciendo que sus personajes se porten a la altura para adaptarse a lo que les exige los temas que se tratan. Es por todo lo anterior que le doy 5 estrellas de 7, una excelente película que es una mezcla perfecta entre animación y reflexión, ideal para adentrarse en un mundo fantástico que deja una que otra conclusión interesante sobre lo que significa la vida y la muerte.
