New adaptation of Scott Turow's successful novel, this time in miniseries format. I saw the first adaptation of this novel many years ago, it was a movie starring Harrinson Ford, it was a VHS copy that I rented at a video store. The movie is very good, at least that's the fleeting memory I have of it. I think I saw it again one Sunday afternoon when it was shown on a free-to-air TV channel.
Because of the good memory I had of Pakula's film, I had good expectations for this new adaptation. Even though I have yet to see the final result, I have decided to recommend it. It is a strange feeling, the miniseries has an excellent technical workmanship, a first class cast, the quality and the great work done, but at the same time I feel that it lacks more impact.
This is something that happens to me a lot with Davi E. Kelly, the showrunner. This man was consecrated in American television with his biggest hit, Ally MC Beal, I was a fan of that series full of very funny moments, but it is in that kind of stories where I think Kelly excels, but when he embarks on productions where the tone is more formal, he has never quite hooked me. He's a great story creator, I'm not saying the opposite, he knows how to capture the attention and keep the viewer attentive to a series, but many times he doesn't quite get it right with the development and the end of what he's telling.

La primera adaptación de esta novela la vi hace muchos años, era una película protagonizada por Harrinson Ford, era una copia en VHS que alquilé en un videoclub. La película es muy buena, al menos ese es el recuerdo fugaz que tengo de ella. Creo que la volví a ver un domingo por la tarde cuando la emitieron en un canal de televisión en abierto.
Debido al buen recuerdo que tenía de la película de Pakula, tenía buenas expectativas para esta nueva adaptación. Aunque me falta ver la reslucion , he decidido recomendarla. Es una sensación extraña, la miniserie tiene una excelente factura técnica, un reparto de primera, la calidad y el gran trabajo realizado, pero al mismo tiempo siento que le falta más impacto.
Esto es algo que me pasa mucho con Davi E. Kelly, el showrunner. Este hombre se consagró en la televisión americana con su mayor éxito, Ally MC Beal, yo era fan de esa serie llena de momentos muy divertidos, pero es en ese tipo de historias donde creo que Kelly destaca, pero cuando se embarca en producciones donde el tono es más formal, nunca me ha enganchado del todo. Es un gran creador de historias, no digo lo contrario, sabe captar la atención y mantener al espectador atento a una serie, pero muchas veces no acaba de acertar con el desarrollo y el final de lo que está contando.
So far the mystery has worked, the sowing of doubts in the viewer about the guilt or innocence of Rusty Sabich. At times we believe and trust him, that he is telling the truth, but through flashbacks and some reactions, we may doubt what really happened. Sabich may give the impression of being an exemplary man, but we know that he has lied on more than one occasion to his wife, to his friends, betraying his family, so he is not as transparent as we think.
Rusty Sabich is a prosecutor, he knows all the tricks that are used in the courts, he has taken many people to jail, he is also arrogant, for something he has earned the enmity of some of his colleagues. Now, it is his turn to be in the dock, being the main suspect of a co-worker, another prosecutor. This is the moment that his adversaries within the system take advantage of to sink him, because he is the main suspect, although he must be presumed innocent until the evidence proves otherwise.
Hasta ahora ha funcionado el misterio, la siembra de dudas en el espectador sobre la culpabilidad o inocencia de Rusty Sabich. Por momentos creemos y confiamos en él, en que dice la verdad, pero a través de flashbacks y algunas reacciones, podemos dudar de lo que realmente ocurrió. Sabich puede dar la impresión de ser un hombre ejemplar, pero sabemos que ha mentido en más de una ocasión a su mujer, a sus amigos, traicionando a su familia, por lo que no es tan transparente como creemos.
Rusty Sabich es fiscal, conoce todos los trucos que se utilizan en los tribunales, ha llevado a mucha gente a la cárcel, también es arrogante, por algo se ha ganado la enemistad de algunos de sus colegas. Ahora, le toca estar en el banquillo de los acusados, siendo el principal sospechoso de un compañero de trabajo, otro fiscal. Es el momento que aprovechan sus adversarios dentro del sistema para hundirle, porque es el principal sospechoso, aunque se le debe presumir inocente hasta que las pruebas demuestren lo contrario.
Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal was chosen to play Rusty Sabich. Great choice of lead, a phenomenal actor, already with his presence the miniseries is worth watching. His scenes with actor Bill Camp are very good. Also noteworthy is the work of Peter Sarsgaard, another supporting actor who brings value to the productions in which he participates. Ruth Negga plays Sabich's wife. It's been several years since I've seen this actress in a project, perhaps she's been shooting projects that have not been released, I'll do some research on what she's been doing.
Perhaps Kelly's plans are to do mini-series of other Turow novels, as several of the characters appear in other stories. Also, one of the novels is a direct sequel set twenty years later. I have yet to see the ending and that is where I fear Kelly is going to go wrong.

La estrella de Hollywood Jake Gyllenhaal fue elegido para interpretar a Rusty Sabich. Gran elección de protagonista, un actor fenomenal, ya con su presencia merece la pena ver la miniserie. Sus escenas con el actor Bill Camp son muy buenas. También hay que destacar el trabajo de Peter Sarsgaard, otro actor secundario que aporta valor a las producciones en las que participa. Ruth Negga interpreta a la mujer de Sabich. Hace varios años que no veo a esta actriz en un proyecto, quizás ha estado rodando proyectos que no se han estrenado, investigaré un poco que ha estado haciendo.
Tal vez los planes de Kelly sean hacer mini series de otras novelas de Turow, ya que varios de los personajes aparecen en otras historias. Además, una de las novelas es una secuela directa ambientada veinte años después. Todavía no he visto el final y ahí es donde me temo que Kelly se va a equivocar.
