My previous review was a movie about lycanthropes. Now it's the turn of a Vampire story, starring two legends of the Horror genre. Jakob's Wife is not only a story with vampires, it is also a story about the changes of a marriage and the liberation of a submissive wife, with funny touches of humor that reminded me of the 80's classics.

The fact that they are supposed to bite their victims, piercing their fangs, piercing their skin and sucking their blood, has a connotation of sexuality. That is why there is an attraction and fascination for stories starring these blood-feeding beings.
The Dracula novel has been retold countless times and a few years ago there was even a TV miniseries about the famous character created by Bram Stoker. From the old classic films of the golden age of Hollywood, we moved on to the fun films of the 1980s in which humor and horror were mixed, and then we moved on to successful literary sagas of young romance that caused a sensation on the big screen.
Jakob's Wife is more like the 80's movies, handling that mix of drama, horror and humor characteristic of the productions of that era, but leaving room for current issues such as women's empowerment.

What is the plot of Jakob's Wife?
Jakob Fedder is the pastor of a religious congregation in the town where he lives. He imparts the teachings of the Bible to the devotees of the community who attend his sermons. What is interesting about the story is the approach to Anne's marital routine, which is entirely devoted to being Jakob's shadow. He is the pastor of the religious congregation and gives the orders. She is the submissive wife, who only does what her husband tells her to do.
During conversations with members of the community, as well as at dinners with Jakob's brother and his wife. Anne will always feel marginalized, she is not taken into account as she should be.
In this aspect I find similarities with the previous film I saw, which dealt with werewolves. Both are a journey of initiation and transformation of the main character. From being shy, submissive and insecure people, they will be transformed as that inner strength they now have, takes control of their lives.
During this part of the film there are funny scenes. Anne's power changes her and now she feels better about herself. She no longer wants to be the one who takes orders and shuts up, now there is something inside her that makes her a confident woman, eager to devour the world.
This is in a literal sense. Anne is hungry and it is not enough for her to buy cow's blood to drink. She needs human blood to quench her thirst and hunger.
Anne will engage in an internal struggle to control her instinct and not commit horrible acts. She will need the help of the person who has been with her for a long time and who really loves her, her husband Jakob.
Her husband will have to face the same demon, the vampire who has transformed his wife and is killing the townspeople. Jakob is a man of God who will have to become a vampire hunter.
The woman he loves is in danger. The vampire who has transformed her wants him to finally accept his destiny. Only he can accept her as she is. How can Jakob defeat this evil force? How can he help his wife? Will he accept her as she is now? How will he save the woman he loves? What will be the fate of Jakob's wife?
Lo interesante de la historia es el planteamiento de la rutina matrimonial de Anne, que esta entregada por completo a ser la sombra detrás de Jakob. El es el pastor de la congregación religiosa e imparte las órdenes. Ella es la esposa sumisa, que solo hace lo que su esposo le dice.
Durante las conversaciones con miembros de la comunidad, así como en las cenas con el hermano de Jakob y su esposa. Anne siempre se sentirá marginada, sin ser tomada realmente en cuenta como deberían.
En este aspecto encuentro similitud con el anterior film que vi, que era sobre hombres lobo. Ambos son un viaje de iniciación y transformación del personaje principal. De ser unas personas tímidas, sumisas e inseguras,se transformaran a medida que esa fuerza interior que ahora tienen, va tomando el control de sus vidas.
Durante esta parte del film hay escenas divertidas. El poder de Anne la cambia y ahora se siente mejor consigo misma. Ya no quiere ser la que recibe órdenes y guarda silencio, ahora hay algo dentro de ella que la convierte en una mujer segura, con ganas de devorarse al mundo.
Esto es en sentido literal. Anne está hambrienta y no le basta con comprar sangre de vaca para tomársela. Ella necesita sangre humana para poder saciar la sed y el hambre.
Anne entablara una lucha interna para controlar su instinto y no cometer actos horribles. Necesitara la ayuda de la persona que a pesar de todo, la ha acompañado desde mucho tiempo y que de verdad la ama, su esposo Jakob.
Su esposo tendrá que enfrentarse al mismo demonio, el vampiro que ha transformado a su mujer y que está matando a personas en el pueblo. Jakob es un hombre de Dios que tendrá que convertirse en cazador de vampiros.
La mujer que ama está en peligro. El vampiro que la transformo quiere que ella por fin acepte su destino. There is not a big budget behind the production of the movie, the scenes with special effects and a lot of gore, do not seem so realistic. When we see the full vampire, it may even cause a bit of laughter, but I love these special effects made with more effort. I prefer the more rudimentary effects than those movies made entirely on green screen and everything added by computer.
I felt that retro style, with special effects and lots of blood, in the style of several classic vampire movies from the eighties. I want you to keep this in mind, if you decide to see it. I thought it was a very entertaining movie.
No hay un gran presupuesto detrás de la producción del film, las escenas con efectos especiales y con mucho gore, no se ven tan realistas. Cuando vemos al vampiro completo, puede hasta causar un poco de risa, pero a mí me encantan estos efectos especiales hechos con mayor esfuerzo. Prefiero efectos más rudimentarios que esas películas hechas totalmente en pantalla verde y todo agregado en ordenador.
Le sentí ese estilo retro, con efectos especiales y mucha sangre, al estilo de varios clásicos de vampiros de los años ochenta. Quiero que tengas esto en mente, si decides verla. A mí me pareció una película muy entretenida.
As I explained at the beginning of the post, Barbara Crampton plays Jakob's wife Anne Fedder, radiating sensuality and giving a great performance. Larry Fessenden plays Jakob, a character that despite giving a first impression of being selfish, you end up getting fond of him. Both actors have excellent chemistry on screen and as a leading couple they are fantastic.
But there is another actress that many have seen. Bonnie Aarons plays the superior Vampire, the bloodthirsty being who preys on the townspeople. You may not recognize her by name, but you've seen her in the two films of The Conjuring saga and in the movie The Nun. Tal como les explique al principio del post, Barbara Crampton interpreta la esposa de Jakob Anne Fedder, irradiando sensualidad y haciendo una gran interpretación. Larry Fessenden interpreta a Jakob, u personaje que a pesar de dar una primera impresión de ser egoísta, terminaos cogiéndole cariño. Ambos actores tienen excelente química en pantalla y como pareja protagonista están fantásticos.

Jakob's wife is entertaining and fulfills as a vampire movie that will make us spend a nice time. It has gore, deaths and humor. Besides, its ending is great. The two main actors are very good in their performances and Barbara Crampton continues to be a magnetic actress. Her transformation into an empowered woman is the best thing about the film. I was satisfied and that's why I recommend it, although I know not everyone will like it.
Jakob´s Wife es entretenida y cumple como película de vampiros que nos harán pasar un rato agradable Tiene gore, muertes y humor. Además, su final es genial. Los dos actores principales están geniales en sus interpretaciones y Barbara Crampton todavía es una actriz magnética. Su transformación a una mujer con poder es lo mejor de la película. He quedado satisfecho y por eso la recomiendo, aunque sé que no gustara a todos.
