After being enchanted with the prequel miniseries 1883, I proceeded to watch the entire first season of 1923, the other series that chronicles another new generation of the Dutton family against the enemies who seek to take their land from them.
Forty years after the events of 1883. Many things have changed and there are new characters. We will learn the fate of James and Margaret Dutton and who are their descendants and, of course, who are Jacob and Cara Dutton, the new protagonists of the story.
To play these two characters, two Hollywood legends were sought. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. Two fantastic interpreters who are a pleasure to see on screen. As usual in this Saga, the female characters are the most powerful. This is what happens with Cara Dutton, who will be forced to assume a leadership role in most of the episodes. I think she even overshadows Ford a bit, at least that was my perception.
Dutton Valley has just begun, we will see a lot of that landscape, but I have the feeling that in 1883 and in the mother series, the shots and photography are better. Perhaps because in this series we will also see other continents and seas, which are striking in their sequences.

Para interpretar a estos dos personajes se buscó a dos leyendas de Hollywood. Harrison Ford y Helen Mirren. Dos fantásticos intérpretes a los que da gusto ver en pantalla. Como viene siendo habitual en esta Saga, los personajes femeninos son los más poderosos. Es lo que ocurre con Cara Dutton, que se verá obligada a asumir un papel de liderazgo en la mayoría de los episodios. Creo que incluso eclipsa un poco a Ford, al menos esa fue mi percepción.
El valle de Dutton acaba de empezar, veremos mucho de ese paisaje, pero tengo la sensación de que en 1883 y en la serie madre, los planos y la fotografía son mejores. Quizás porque en esta serie también veremos otros continentes y mares, que son impactantes en sus secuencias.

These are also the years after the great recession, with a country trying to rebuild itself. This will affect the Dutton family, because cattle are not a profitable business in the midst of a major economic downturn, which presents an opportunity for other, riskier entrepreneurs who want to get richer. In business, when someone wins, it is because someone else has lost. The Duttons have several threats and will need a good leader.
This is where Spencer Dutton's character comes into play. A direct descendant of James. A stout soul, with a wartime past, free-spirited, rebellious, a tough man, very macho and handsome, for whom any woman would go crazy. Just like the British aristocrat Alexandra, who is completely captivated by the sight of him. Fuck, why don't I have that damn physique? Why?
Spencer is a character who reminded me a lot of Keicey Dutton from the main series. I see where the attraction to trouble comes from for him. Both are wolves with a past in war and who love their women. Very masculine and they have to stay away, because wherever they go and whoever they are with, trouble comes to them. Too many bad things happen to Spencer and we spend most of the episodes waiting for him to get to his fucking destination fast.
La década en la que transcurre la historia es una de grandes cambios. La prohibición del alcohol, que llevó a la consolidación de imperios de gángsters en las principales ciudades de Estados Unidos. El gran salto tecnológico para estas gentes, con la llegada de la electricidad y el agua potable a los hogares, así como electrodomésticos como frigoríficos y lavadoras. Generando un choque e incluso cierto rechazo entre los adultos, acostumbrados a un estilo de vida más sencillo.
Asimismo, la expansión de los automóviles, transformando el pueblo y donde el uso de carruajes o pasear a caballo por las calles será algo que tendrán que dejar de hacer. Hay que entender que todo tipo de progreso produce cambios que al mismo tiempo infunden miedo en la gente que ya no tiene ganas ni deseos de que las cosas cambien. Pero es algo contra lo que no se puede luchar.
También son los años posteriores a la gran recesión, con un país que intenta reconstruirse. Esto afectará a la familia Dutton, porque el ganado no es un negocio rentable en medio de una gran crisis económica, lo que supone una oportunidad para otros empresarios más arriesgados que quieren ser más ricos. En los negocios, cuando alguien gana, es porque otro ha perdido. Los Dutton tienen varias amenazas y necesitarán un buen líder.
Aquí es donde el personaje de Spencer Dutton entra en juego. Un descendiente directo de James. Un alma atornentada, con un pasado de guerra, de espíritu libre, rebelde, un hombre duro, muy macho y guapo, por el que cualquier mujer se volvería loca. Tal com lo hace la aristócrata británica Alexandra, que queda completamente cautivada nada más verle. Joder, ¿por qué no tengo yo ese maldito físico? ¿Por qué?
Spencer es un personaje que me recordó mucho a Keicey Dutton de la serie principal. Veo de dónde le viene la atracción por los problemas. Ambos son lobos con un pasado en la guerra y que aman a sus mujeres. Muy masculinos y tienen que mantenerse alejados, porque vayan donde vayan y estén con quien estén, les llegan los problemas. A Spencer le pasan demasiadas cosas malas y nos pasamos la mayor parte de los episodios esperando a que llegue rapido a su jodido destino.
Waiting for Spencer, could be the title of this series, because that's what the whole first season is about. A wait that is entertaining in the first half, but then becomes tedious, repetitive and that by lengthening his journey so much, also slows down other plots, to which you have to put filler so that the last two episodes are exciting.
This is the great asset of the series and the reason why I did not like it as much as 1883. I understand that you have to squeeze every last drop out of this hit. But there was really no need to make it so long. Maybe they thought of extending it to another season down the road, I would have liked a 12 episode miniseries better.
In the last few episodes, one of the powerful antagonists, consumes minutes of screen time, with really unnecessary scenes. Suddenly he is shown as a sadist with some sexual perversions. I don't understand the need to show that, to make him look like a really bad guy? His motivations are already money and power, those scenes with the prostitutes seem unnecessary and add nothing.
The second season is already in production, I think they should have finished it by now, we have to wait for post-production and for them to announce the premiere date. It will be the second and last season. Now I just ask Spencer to hurry up at once, enough of so many problems, I don't think I can stand another season waiting for him. Hurry up Spencer!

Esperando a Spencer, podría ser el título de esta serie, porque de eso va toda la primera temporada. Una espera que es entretenida en la primera mitad, pero que luego se hace tediosa, repetitiva y que al alargar tanto su viaje, ralentiza también otras tramas, a las que hay que poner relleno para que los dos últimos episodios sean emocionantes.
Esta es la gran baza de la serie y la razón por la que no me ha gustado tanto como 1883. Entiendo que hay que exprimir hasta la última gota de este éxito. Pero realmente no había necesidad de hacerla tan larga. Quizás pensaron extenderla a otra temporada por el camino, me hubiera gustado más una miniserie de 12 episodios.
En los últimos episodios, uno de los poderosos antagonistas, consume minutos de pantalla, con escenas realmente innecesarias. De repente se le muestra como un sádico con algunas perversiones sexuales. No entiendo la necesidad de mostrar eso, ¿para hacerlo ver como un tipo muy malo? Sus motivaciones ya son dinero y poder, esas escenas con las prostitutas me parecen innecesarias y no aportan nada.
La segunda temporada ya está en producción, creo que ya deberían haberla terminado, hay que esperar a la postproducción y a que anuncien la fecha de estreno. Será la segunda y última temporada. Ahora sólo le pido a Spencer que se dé prisa de una vez, ya está bien de tantos problemas, no creo que aguante otra temporada esperándole. ¡Apurate Spencer!
