Hello to all of you, I haven't shared anything here for a long time, but I want to share with you a web series that I've been watching a lot lately and made me laugh out loud. The name of the series is Gibi. Actually, even the name of the series shows that there is something strange. Gibi means like in English, but it's not the word for liking something. Like is used as like a pen, like an apple.
First of all, I researched where the name of the series came from and there is no story behind it. It's just a line used by one of the characters played by Feyyaz Yiğit, one of the leads and also one of the script writers of the series. So it's an ordinary word and that's what the show is all about. Magnifying ordinary events or minimizing giant events. For example, in one episode of the show, the grandmother of one of the characters is eaten by a cannibal and people react as if this is something that could happen in real life. By the way, I should also mention that the episodes of the series are not connected to each other. So each episode deals with a different subject. And I think this is one of the things that makes the show better. Yes, shows where all the episodes are connected to each other can be good, but usually in such shows, after a while they get too ridiculous to make things interesting. Whereas when you don't have connected episodes, you can make it look like anything happens in any episode you want.
One of the things that makes the show funny is that it's all things that could happen in everyday life. I mentioned this a little bit above, but I need to expand on it. Most of the things that happen in the show are things that could happen to all of us in everyday life. For example, in the first episode of the series, our protagonists argue about the misspelling of the sign of a restaurant, then the owner of the restaurant realizes this and an argument starts between them. Everything is normal up to this point, but things get so weird after that that they end up having to open a restaurant. So everything is both normal and abnormal.
Let me give another example from the last episode of the series. In the episode, our leads are in an passage to choose a bell for their house. One of their friends who owns a shop there has an emergency and they have to take care of the shop instead. Isn't this something that could happen to any of us? The strange thing is that the shop is a sex shop and while they are waiting in the shop a foreign artist comes in and wants to buy 1000 sex toys from the shop. Our characters are hesitant about whether to make the sale or not and then somehow they make the sale. After the sale, the normal thing again is that after so many sales, the finance calls the shop owner and asks questions about these sales and they come to inspect. So the show goes back and forth between weirdness and normality.
Aziz Kedi and Feyyaz Yiğit should also be congratulated for the script of the series. The series completely achieves its goal, it makes people laugh, even if something absurd happens, you don't think that it shouldn't happen here, the place choices are very good.
