The Dover family is a unified family, whose fundamental glue is Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman), who has always made sure to instruct his children to be ready at all times. He's taught them how to survive in the woods, how to hunt, how to store supplies so that whatever ends society as we know it won't catch them off guard. As he always says:
Pray for the best, but prepare for the worst.
Regardless, there are things Keller can't prepare his children for. When the Dovers and the Birch's have a small reunion, the 6-year-old girls from both families ask permission to go to the Dovers' house to get Anna's emergency whistle. On their way out, they don't tell their siblings to go with them.
They never make it to the house.
Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal) gets to work and begins the investigation, quickly locating the van that was parked that day in the neighborhood. Alex Jones, who exhibits mental retardation, is arrested and released. Keller, After confronting him and listening to him say: * they stopped crying when I left them*; decides to take matters into his own hands and kidnaps him. Along with Franklin Birch (Terrence Howard), they torture the boy to get the truth out of him about where theirs little girls are.
I like to think that the name of the movie, Prisoners goes beyond referring to the kidnapped girls. After the ending, I have a belief that it's intended to be about the main characters, how they become prisoners of their own actions and that, no matter how good and understandable their intentions may have been, they're forever bound by its consequences.
It was released in 2013 and the director is none other than Denis Villeneuve, who was recently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, due to Dune.

Back in 2007, this film was released in theaters by the acclaimed Sandra Bullock, who successfully played Linda, a mother and married woman who one Tuesday receives the tragic news that her husband Jim (Julian McMahon) died in a car accident, on his way to his business trip.
Together with her two daughters, she experiences the worst day of her life. However, when she wakes up the next morning, she finds the person she thought she would never see again in her kitchen: Jim.
The first logical thought that crosses her mind is that it was, of course, just a dream, a painfully vivid and detailed one. We soon discover that Linda is living her days in a disorganized way, for example, one morning she wakes up days away from her husband's death, and another day she is witnessing his funeral.
People who've lost their beliefs, they're like empty vessels, more susceptible to having their lives taken over by forces bigger than themselves
Premonition becomes a mystery to be solved in which, together with Linda, we will try to fit the events in our minds to make sense of them. We may even be able to save Jim, if he really is the person we think he is.
Honestly, I find the pacing of this movie to be rather slow in parts and there's a bit of inconsistency in one of the events but nonetheless, Premonition is interesting to watch.

The work of writer/director, James Ward Byrkit, who proved with this 2014 film that even with a low budget, a good story can be pulled off.
Coherence tells the story of 8 friends gathered to spend the night, which casually coincided with the appearance of a comet that caused strange behaviors every time it popped up again.
It's all told in the same setting, the house, and in a single night. It's a continuous story, which makes us live with them every doubt and fear, and the tension doesn't drop for a moment until the end, when we finally understand what causes the comet.
Coherence leaves us hanging with several unanswered questions such as, if we were in a similar situation, would we act this way, do we really know our partner, our friends? And, for me, the most important question:
Is desperation and the need to survive bringing out the true self of the human being or maybe just the worst part of it?.

La familia Dover es una familia unida, cuyo pegamento fundamental es Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman), quien siempre se ha asegurado de instruir a sus hijos para estar listos en todo momento. Les ha enseñado a sobrevivir en el bosque, a cazar, a guardar provisiones para que, lo que sea que termine con la sociedad que conocemos, no los tome desprevenidos. Como siempre dice:

A pesar de todo, hay cosas por las que Keller no puede preparar a sus hijos. Al salir, no les avisan a sus hermanos que las acompañen.

Junto con Franklin Birch (Terrence Howard), tortura al chico para sacarle la verdad sobre dónde están sus pequeñas.
Me gusta pensar que el nombre de la película, Prisoners va más allá de referirse a las niñas secuestradas. Después del final, tengo la creencia de que está drigido a los personajes principales, cómo se vuelven prisioneros de sus propios actos y que, por más buenas y entendibles que hayan sido sus intenciones, están siempre atados a sus consecuencias.
Fue estrenada en el 2013 y el director no es otro que Denis Villeneuve, quien recientemente fue nominado un Premio a la Academia por Mejor Guión Adaptado, debido a Dune.

Junto con sus dos hijas, vive el peor día de su vida. Sin embargo, cuando despierta la mañana siguiente, encuentra en su cocina a la persona que pensó que no volvería a ver: Jim.
El primer pensamiento lógico que le pasa por la cabeza es que fue, por supuesto, solo un sueño, uno dolorosamente vívido y detallado. Pronto descubriremos que Linda está viviendo sus días de forma desordenada, por ejemplo, una mañana despierta a días de la muerte de su marido, y otro día está presenciando su funeral.
Las personas que han perdido sus creencias, son como recipientes vacíos, más susceptibles de que sus vidas sean tomadas por fuerzas más grandes que ellos mismos.
Premonition se vuelve un misterio por resolver en el que, junto a Linda, trataremos de acomodar los eventos en nuestra mente para darles algún sentido. Incluso, puede ser que seamos capaces de salvar a Jim, si es que es realmente la persona que creemos que es.
Sinceramente, considero que el ritmo de esta película es bastante lento en algunas partes y hay una pequeña inconsistencia en uno de los eventos pero, de todas formas, Premonition es interesante de ver.

Coherence relata la historia de 8 amigos reunidos para pasar la noche, la cual coincidió casualmente con la aparición de un cometa que causaba comportamientos extraños cada vez que surgía de nuevo.
Todo se cuenta en el mismo escenario, la casa, y en una sola noche. Es una historia continua, lo que nos hace vivir con ellos cada duda y miedo, y la tensión no baja ni un momento hasta al final, cuando finalmente entendemos qué causa el cometa.
Coherence nos deja colgando con varias preguntas sin respuesta como, por ejemplo, si estuviésemos en una situación similar, ¿actuaríamos de esta forma?, ¿conocemos realmente a nuestra pareja, a nuestros amigos? Y, para mí, la pregunta más importante:
¿La desesperación y la necesidad de sobrevivir saca el verdadero ser del ser humano o tal vez solo la peor parte del mismo?
