Cuando eres pequeño y te encariñas mucho con una película es normal que si hacen un reestreno de la misma y cambien algunos personajes te puedas molestar, pues eso fue precisamente lo que pasó con la sirenita la película de 2023 que interpreta Halle Bailey y que Disney volvió a lanzar luego de más de 30 años, pero qué fue lo que salió mal y por qué está haciendo duramente criticada? me gustaría explicarlo en esta resumen pero también me gustaría aclarar algunos aspectos que luego de ver la película considero que fueron sumamente necesarios en esta adaptación ya que esta película de La sirenita se adapta mucho a la realidad por cómo explican en esta nueva historia.
Esta película de La sirenita del 2023 tiene una historia casi similar a la del 1989, claro tiene algunas variaciones como el lugar donde se está originando la historia, la inclusión de otros personajes que no aparecían en la historia original y un poco más de historia necesaria queda mayor contraste al príncipe Eric. Pero la trama de la película de La sirenita de 2023 va algo así: Ariel una de las siete hijas de Tritón El rey de los mares, desea vivir una vida explorando todo lo que la tierra firme tiene para ella, por eso colecciona muchas cosas que caen al mar como estatuas platos tenedores y demás objetos que caen al mar cuando se hunden los barcos, ella nunca ha conocido la tierra aunque sí la visita y la ve a lo lejos cuando esté en el mar.
Un día mientras Eric está celebrando su cumpleaños en el barco, una fuerte tormenta hace que el barco de Eric choque y se hunda, Eric desafortunadamente cae al agua quedando inconsciente, Ariel viendo la situación salva inmediatamente a Eric llevando a la orilla de la playa este cuando recupera la conciencia poco a poco la ve de manera borrosa pero sí escucha su hermosa voz cantar así que queda sumamente enamorado y con la idea de volverse a encontrar con su salvadora. Ariel angustiada y desesperada porque no puede estar con los humanos hace un trato con Úrsula su tía para que con su magia oscura le dé piernas pero con ciertas condiciones como que no puede tener voz. Así quería la secta y su tía Úrsula le da piernas y comienza su travesía por tratar de enamorar al príncipe Eric y lograr finalmente sus sueños aunque claro algunas cosas se salen de control.

When you are small and you get very attached to a movie it is normal that if they make a re-release of it and change some characters you can get upset, well that was precisely what happened with the little mermaid the 2023 movie that Halle Bailey plays and that Disney re-released after more than 30 years, but what went wrong and why is it being harshly criticized? I would like to explain it in this summary but I would also like to clarify some aspects that after watching the movie I consider that they were extremely necessary in this adaptation since this Little Mermaid movie is very much adapted to reality by how they explain in this new story.
This movie of The Little Mermaid of 2023 has a story almost similar to that of 1989, of course it has some variations such as the place where the story is originating, the inclusion of other characters that did not appear in the original story and a little more necessary history remains greater contrast to Prince Eric. But the plot of the 2023 Little Mermaid movie goes something like this: Ariel one of the seven daughters of Triton The King of the Seas, wishes to live a life exploring all that the mainland has for her, so she collects many things that fall into the sea like statues plates forks and other objects that fall into the sea when ships sink, she has never known the land although she does visit it and sees it in the distance when she is at sea.
One day while Eric is celebrating his birthday on the boat, a strong storm causes Eric's boat to crash and sink, Eric unfortunately falls into the water becoming unconscious, Ariel seeing the situation immediately saves Eric taking him to the shore of the beach when he regains consciousness gradually sees her in a blur but he hears her beautiful voice singing so he is extremely in love and with the idea of meeting again with his savior. Ariel distressed and desperate because she can not be with humans makes a deal with Ursula her aunt to give her legs with her dark magic but with certain conditions such as that she can not have a voice. So she wanted the sect and her aunt Ursula gives her legs and begins her journey to try to fall in love with Prince Eric and finally achieve her dreams but of course some things get out of control.
Ahora vayamos con lo que más nos interesa de la película por qué fue tan polémica y es que esta película de Disney fue tan polémica por la gran y creciente oleada de inclusión que la compañía del ratón (entre otras como Netflix) ha estado haciendo ya que en muchas de las producciones han incluido personajes homosexuales, han cambiado personajes pasándolos de blancos a personajes afrodescendientes. Lo que hace que las personas se molesten porque mencionan una y otra vez una inclusión forzada y progresismo político en cuestiones de entretenimiento.
Ahora en cuanto La sirenita podemos ver que hubiera un cambios muy importantes y la inclusión de otros que a pocos gustaron por ejemplo el personaje principal en la cinta original de 1989 era una chica de tez blanca pelirroja pero en la película de Disney de 2023 vemos que la cambiaron por Halle berry una chica negra de color anaranjado, lo cual hace que muchos mencionen que Disney por su inclusión forzada y por apoyar agendas políticas de peleas raciales estén cambiando la historia de los personajes así como hizo Netflix con su reciente serie sobre Cleopatra. Y aunque no pueda tener sentido que cambien a un personaje que originalmente fue diseñado así, comienza a tener sentido cuando conoces el contexto.
Por ejemplo el contexto de esta película de La sirenita menciona que la historia se desarrolla en el Caribe más en concreto en la zona de las islas de República Dominicana, Haití, Belice Curazao, etc.. ya que la película cuenta que Ariel es una de las hijas de Tritón que pertenece al mar Caribe así que es lógico que siendo una lugareña del mar Caribe tenga un aspecto similar a la gran mayoría de personas que viven en esa zona. Luego de analizar ese detalle en la película me di cuenta que no era tan mala idea el que hayan cambiado a Ariel, ya que pensé que la anterior sirenita se desarrollaba en Londres o en los mares de Europa.

Now let's go with what interests us the most about the movie why it was so controversial and that is that this Disney movie was so controversial because of the great and growing wave of inclusion that the mouse company (among others like Netflix) has been doing since in many of the productions they have included gay characters, they have changed characters from white to Afro-descendant characters. Which makes people upset because they mention over and over again a forced inclusion and political progressivism in entertainment matters.
Now as for The Little Mermaid we can see that there would be a very important changes and the inclusion of others that few liked for example the main character in the original tape of 1989 was a white girl with red hair but in the Disney movie of 2023 we see that they changed it by Halle berry a black girl of orange color, which makes many mention that Disney for its forced inclusion and to support political agendas of racial fights are changing the history of the characters as well as Netflix did with its recent series about Cleopatra. And while it may not make sense that they would change a character that was originally designed that way, it starts to make sense when you know the context.
For example the context of this Little Mermaid movie mentions that the story takes place in the Caribbean more specifically in the area of the islands of Dominican Republic, Haiti, Belize Curacao, etc.. since the movie tells that Ariel is one of the daughters of Triton that belongs to the Caribbean Sea so it is logical that being a local of the Caribbean Sea she has a similar appearance to the vast majority of people living in that area. After analyzing that detail in the movie I realized that it was not such a bad idea to change Ariel, since I thought that the previous little mermaid was set in London or in the seas of Europe.
Aunque algo que realmente no perdono para nada y menciono una y otra vez que fue una chorreada total fue el cambio de aspecto de los amigos de Ariel como flounder y el sirviente de Tritón Sebastián obviamente sé que es una película en live action y que trata de ser lo más fiel a la realidad posible pero por Dios el diseño de Flounder y de Sebastián es sumamente horrible y eso que se trata de una película de 185 millones de dólares en presupuesto lo cual me parece algo irracionable considerando el resultado tan horrible del cgi en estos dos personajes pienso que pudieron haber puesto más empeño en crear algo más humanizado y que concordara con el personaje original.
Pero otro aspecto de la película que sí me gustó muchísimo fue el que incluyeran que el príncipe Eric tenía mamá y papá claro no eran sus padres biológicos sino adoptivos, ya que Erick llegó a la isla y fue adoptado por los reyes de esa isla. El que incluyera en la historia de estos dos personajes extras le da un poco de significado o color a la película, además el que la adaptación del live action incluyera una relación de familiar entre Úrsula y el rito también hace que le dé más sabor a la historia.
Ya que en la primera película de 1989 no se llega a entender totalmente qué relación había entre Úrsula y Tritón claro se entiende el odio que le tiene pero más de allí no por eso considero que el que a Úrsula la hicieran hermana de Tritón es decir la tía de Ariel fue otro aspecto bastante destacado que le dio más sabor a la historia ya que se puede ver por decirlo así una historia como juego de tronos pero versión del mar donde Úrsula desea y anhela el poder que tiene Tritón.

Although something that I really don't forgive at all and I mention over and over again that it was a total waste was the change of appearance of Ariel's friends like Flounder and Triton's servant Sebastian obviously I know it's a live action movie and it tries to be as faithful to reality as possible but by God the design of Flounder and Sebastian is extremely horrible and that's a movie with a budget of 185 million dollars which seems to me something unreasonable considering the horrible result of the cgi on these two characters. and Sebastian's design is horrible and this is a movie with a 185 million dollar budget which I think is unreasonable considering the horrible cgi results on these two characters, I think they could have put more effort in creating something more humanized and that matched the original character.
But another aspect of the movie that I really liked was that they included that Prince Eric had a mom and dad, of course they were not his biological parents but adoptive, since Erick came to the island and was adopted by the kings of that island. The inclusion in the story of these two extra characters gives a little meaning or color to the film, also the fact that the live action adaptation included a family relationship between Ursula and the rite also gives more flavor to the story.
Since in the first film of 1989 it is not fully understood what relationship there was between Ursula and Triton, of course you can understand the hatred she has for him but not more than that, that is why I consider that the fact that Ursula was made Triton's sister, Ariel's aunt, was another quite outstanding aspect that gave more flavor to the story since you can see a story like a game of thrones but in a sea version where Ursula desires and longs for the power that Triton has.
Ahora en conclusión la película no es mala totalmente ya que como mencioné la inclusión de un buen contexto para la historia así que puedes entender por qué hubieron esos cambios significativos en el personaje también la inclusión de más personajes y una historia con mucho más color y sabor hace que esta versión de la sirenista sea muy buena y disfrutable claro honestamente lo voy a volver a decir me decepcionó totalmente el silla de los personajes secundarios como Sebastián y Flounder pero la historia en general estuvo muy buena.
