¡Hola amigos! Hoy les vengo a compartir una película que se estrenó de manera reciente en Netflix y me gustó que tratara sobre una problemática como son los estándares de belleza de una manera más distópica. Les estoy hablando de Los feos.

Esta película nos introduce a un mundo distópico donde los humanos con sus acciones ocasionaron graves problemas ambientales y de contaminación, pero un grupo de científicos logró crear una flor blanca que ayudó a estabilizar el planeta. A consecuencia de esto también acordaron quitar de raíz el problema, o sea, los humanos. Para esto se dieron cuenta que los grandes problemas de la humanidad se dan por la infelicidad, los celos, la envidia, etc. Es por ello que también crearon un procedimiento para transformar a los humanos en personas bellas y con esto más felices. Así que a la edad de 16 años todos deben pasar por esta operación donde los harán bellos y dejarán de ser feos a los ojos de otros y de ellos mismos. Es acá donde entra nuestra protagonista Tally, una joven bastante pícara y rebelde que está ansiosa por hacerse la operación y pasar a pertenecer a este mundo de los bellos que solo puede imaginar, pero muy pronto descubrirá que todo es una fachada para mantenerlos controlados y ahora deberá seguir su propio instinto y animarse a vivir siendo tal y cómo es.
This film introduces us to a dystopian world where humans with their actions caused serious environmental and pollution problems, but a group of scientists managed to create a white flower that helped stabilize the planet. As a result of this they also agreed to remove the root of the problem, that is, humans. For this they realized that the great problems of mankind are caused by unhappiness, jealousy, envy, etc. That is why they also created a procedure to transform humans into beautiful and thus happier people. So at the age of 16 everyone must go through this operation where they will be made beautiful and stop being ugly in the eyes of others and themselves. This is where our protagonist Tally comes in, a rather mischievous and rebellious young girl who is eager to have the operation and become part of this world of the beautiful that she can only imagine, but she will soon discover that it is all a facade to keep them under control and now she must follow her own instinct and dare to live as she is.

La verdad es que no le tenía tanta fe a esta película, pero me terminó sorprendiendo. Creo que en parte fue porque, si bien estamos hablando de ficción acá, no deja de ser cercana a la realidad que vivimos. La belleza es algo por lo que muchos darían todo por alcanzarla y en nombre de ella son capaces de someterse a operaciones o probar distintos tratamientos que quizá pongan en riesgo su salud.
The truth is that I didn't have much faith in this film, but it ended up surprising me. I think it was partly because, although we are talking about fiction here, it is still close to the reality we live in. Beauty is something that many would give everything to achieve and in the name of it they are capable of undergoing operations or trying different treatments that may put their health at risk.
Lo que sucede en esta película no dista de ser distinto, pasa que está más normalizado porque los personajes crecieron con esta nueva realidad. "Los feos" son separados de sus padres a cierta edad y llevados a un lugar apartado donde serán educados y cuidados, y pasarán gran parte de su tiempo fantaseando con cómo les gustaría verse cuánto alcancen la edad permitida para operarse, desde modificar su color de cabello hasta sus ojos y agregarse o sacarse altura, peso y todo lo que quieran. Es algo así como crear un sim y luego meterse a una máquina y listo, saldrán con esa apariencia nueva. Lo que nadie les dice es que hay un costo para ello, sacrificar algo mucho más importante que su belleza, su mente y poder de decisión.
What happens in this film is not far from being different, it just happens to be more normalized because the characters grew up with this new reality. The “ugly ones” are separated from their parents at a certain age and taken to a secluded place where they will be educated and cared for, and they will spend most of their time fantasizing about how they would like to look when they reach the age allowed to have surgery, from changing their hair color to their eyes and adding or removing height, weight and anything else they want. It's kind of like creating a sim and then putting it into a machine and that's it, they will come out with that new look. What no one tells them is that there is a cost to it, sacrificing something much more important than their beauty, their mind and decision making power.

Es una película que me hizo reflexionar mucho y me mantuvo muy enganchada, sentí que se me pasó rapidísimo y la verdad es que me dejó con ganas de ver más. Así que espero que puedan llegar a una continuación, aunque no me haré muchas ilusiones al respecto. Por supuesto que también tiene sus detalles que no estuvieron tan acertados o no muy bien explicado, pero el tema central se me hizo muy interesante y la verdad es que te hace pensar en los estándares de belleza y qué consideramos cómo tal, ya que no todos tenemos los mismos gustos.
It's a movie that made me reflect a lot and kept me very hooked, I felt it went by very quickly and the truth is that it left me wanting to see more. So I hope they can come up with a sequel, although I will not have many illusions about it. Of course it also has its details that were not so accurate or not very well explained, but the central theme was very interesting and the truth is that it makes you think about the standards of beauty and what we consider as such, since not all of us have the same tastes.
En fin, es una película que les recomiendo mirar para que saquen sus propias conclusiones, quizá por momentos es un poco absurda, y no deja de ser una historia juvenil, pero creo que tiene un buen trasfondo y la historia puede ser mucho más interesante de lo que aparenta.
Anyway, it is a film that I recommend you watch to draw your own conclusions, maybe at times it is a little absurd, and it is still a juvenile story, but I think it has a good background and the story can be much more interesting than it seems.
