East New York: A friendly police TV Show

Hello friends!

There are always TV shows and movies to watch, sometimes not enough time and sometimes we just want to watch something entertaining without thinking much about what we can choose. So on a weekend with more time we decide to watch something, and when I have looked on HBOMax a Tv shows has appeared: East New York.

For those who like police series, investigation series and some action and personal moments too, this is a good option. I like suspense and investigations and there aren't always too many or I've already seen them, so I was curious to see one more American police TV show because there are many police TV shows, it is not a new genre so I wanted to see what this new contributed, what is different about this TV show from others?

To begin with, it is a TV show of police officers, from a specific police station in a certainly conflictive neighborhood in New York, the city of the Big Apple seems to always have a lot of action everywhere, but here we see how not all areas are the same , that usually happens in all places, and in fact that is a differentiating point:
the TV show emphasizes how more public resources are directed to some areas, to some actions and less to others.

As if there were first-class and second-class people. that they required different security, an injustice that we all know, and the new chief inspector of this 74th police station wants to put an end to that, she is the Deputy Inspector Regina Haywood.

She begins her new job in an unexpected way with an incident and a lot of action to begin with, which surprises us as soon as it starts... then her first day with her new officers, agents and investigators develops and we get to know the characters, each one with their personality, and the curious thing is that we have already seen some of them in some other TV shows. For example, the captain Stan Yenko who offers himself to be an assistant or always lend a hand, an affable man with a lot of experience and a very good way with people, who likes to talk a lot and who has decided to study Italian.

Afterwards, Regina, ambitious and eager to change things there, wants to start an integration project, in which a couple of agents from the police station should voluntarily go live in one of the homes of a public housing condominium to integrate with the neighbors and that they saw that the police wanted to be closer and always be there to help them and give them greater security.

A young officer Brandy Quinlan with a lot of motivation and desire to change things is offered, although at first her adjustment with the other neighbors will not be easy, but not impossible. Then another of the younger ones, officer Andre Bentley also offers to live there although he had a problem during some moment, with which in the end they both try to make the people who live there see them as part of them, and the two of them also end up having something? Ah…. SPOILERS!

Yes, there is a good relationship among the different characters, in the police station there are also two detectives who are in plain clothes but they are good at investigating, finding clues and solving cases quickly, especially when they are given orders from higher up that they have to be solved. Two friends actually, each with their personal life too, Tommy Killian also works at another job because he needs money for the restaurant that his girlfriend wants to run where the entire work team goes to have a drink after the cases and Crystal Morales is a woman very efficient with a child to raise.

But sometimes work goes further when it is mixed with politics as often happens in real life, and here we are shown very clearly with the hierarchies of the high command that mix too easily with political positions, with municipal candidates and possible future commissioner positions. Everyone thinks about achieving more power and with their decisions they pressure those below to make other decisions, as happens to Regina's boss Assistant Chief John Suarez, who is between those two worlds but who always supports the decisions in favor of the people that she wants to implement in her police station and in her neighborhood.

We also know something about the personal life of Regina, the main character, especially her concern for doing things differently and better for everyone who lives in her neighborhood. I like her personal involvement and her sensitivity as well as her courage to sometimes stand up to all those boss sharks who are above her, to powerful businessmen and important people in the city who run for office elections.

My thoughts

Thus, this typical police TV show in the most famous North American city takes on a closer, more sensitive, and real tone. It shows us the good will of those who work on the street, their personal lives and how they combine them, how they relate as a team in an endearing way, the most veterans teaching young people for example, they protect and help each other, and how they try to help others, those in that neighborhood, despite the difficulties from above, the dangers and insecurity of the streets and the harsh reality. Thanks to this TV show, that reality becomes a little less harsh and a little kinder and friendly.
