As I have mentioned many times in the past, sci-fi, is among my favorite genres and something that has always interested me is possible tech innovations that could happen in the future and how they could change our lives for the better or worse.
There is a British series called Black Mirror that has made the best job portraying future technology and how it could condition our daily lives. The series introduces futuristic concepts in a very casual way and the extreme consequences that could derive from their use.
The type of technologies explored in this series is very varied, we have immersive virtual worlds used for video games, simulations with the goal of deciding if a potential romantic partner is a good choice, there is also one episode where a device is implanted in people’s eyes that films everything the person sees and becomes a new way to save and remember our memories, and many more examples, you name it. If it is a sci-fi idea, it has probably been explored in Black Mirror.
The main reason I loved this series is that it shows how normal life could be with more advanced technology, most of the episodes focus on negative consequences, but some of them are positive such as San Junipero. Black Mirror provides what I think are the most realistic stories involving possible future technology. The plots are compelling and well written for the most part, some of the twists are crazy and unexpected, the acting is amazing, and since it is an anthology series, each episode is like a mini-movie because it has a unique story.

El tipo de tecnologías exploradas en esta serie es muy variada, tenemos mundos virtuales inmersivos utilizados para videojuegos, simulaciones con el objetivo de decidir si una posible pareja romántica es una buena opción, también hay un episodio donde se implanta un dispositivo en la cabeza de los ojos que filma todo lo que la persona ve y se convierte en una nueva forma de guardar y recordar nuestros recuerdos, y muchos ejemplos más, lo que sea que puedas imaginar. Si es una idea de ciencia ficción, probablemente haya sido explorada en Black Mirror.
La razón principal por la que me encantó esta serie es que muestra cómo podría ser la vida normal con tecnología más avanzada, la mayoría de los episodios se centran en las consecuencias negativas, pero algunos de ellos son positivos, como San Junipero. Black Mirror ofrece lo que creo que son las historias más realistas que involucran una posible tecnología futura. Las tramas son convincentes y están bien escritas en su mayor parte, algunos de los giros son locos e inesperados, la actuación es increíble y, dado que es una serie de antología, cada episodio es como una mini película porque tiene una historia única.
There was even an episode of season 5 which didn't even belong to the scifi genre and I never understood why they created this story. Since Black Mirror needs a new original story for each episode, it could be more likely for the creative minds behind it to suffer from creative block more easily than writers of regular shows. On a regular series writers only need to continue with the already existing story, but in anthologies, you need a new story every time, which is more creatively demanding.
There was even a special interactive episode where as a viewer, you can be the one who takes important decisions and can ultimately decide how the story ends. The way this interaction works is that each time the episode reaches an important moment in the story, the Netflix's interface presents you with several options and you need to choose one of them. It was a very cool way of presenting a story with different paths, and I think it would be cool for Netflix to do more special productions such as this one.
I have been waiting for the return of this series for quite some time, but I don't want the creators to rush and deliver a low-quality production. It is much better to take as long as it's needed and ultimately produce something that people can enjoy.
Another series that I also happen to love due to its unique approach, is The Boys. I was never fond of superhero series because they appeared to be endless and I simply preferred to watch superhero films, however, the main aspect that convinced me to watch The Boys was that it belonged to the dark comedy genre.
This type of comedy is one I have always loved, but finding good productions of this genre isn’t easy. I started to watch this series and the first episodes blew me away for several reasons.

He estado esperando el regreso de esta serie durante bastante tiempo, pero no quiero que los creadores se apresuren y entreguen una producción de baja calidad. Es mucho mejor tomarse el tiempo que sea necesario y, en última instancia, producir algo que la gente pueda disfrutar.
Otra serie que también me encanta debido a su enfoque único es The Boys. Another reason why I liked this show, is due to the great job it did providing politically incorrect black humor. The series was absolutely hilarious throughout the 2 seasons that have been released so far, and I enjoy it much more than normal comedy productions. However, some parts of its story are far from being funny because seeing superheroes deliberately adopting immoral behaviors can be disturbing for us the viewers, and traumatic for the characters.
As the story advances, there is a group of humans who are aware of the dark side of these superheroes, and they want to expose them as well as making their pay for the crimes they commit. These superheroes are like superstars, they have fans, and more importantly for them, they have all sort of merchandises and businesses that are making them rich. This is why they need to have a gentle but fake personality towards the public, otherwise their fans would stop admiring them and purchasing their products. This is similar to how most politicians behave. There is a popular phrase that goes like "power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely".
These superheroes are 2 faced hypocrites and they know they can get away with pretty much anything they want. The group of humans who are against them have a lot of disadvantages but the story manages to make things interesting, plus, not all of the superheroes are really bad people, there is at least one exception of a superhero who isn't corrupt or anything like that.
I believe this series is a must watch, it is very unique, the acting has been amazing so far, and everyone I know that has watched this series has enjoyed it just like me, so that shouldn't be a coincidence, the series is something special.
Otra razón por la que me gustó este programa es por el gran trabajo que hizo proporcionando humor negro políticamente incorrecto. La serie fue absolutamente divertida durante las 2 temporadas que se han lanzado hasta ahora, y la disfrute mucho más que las producciones de comedia normales. Sin embargo, algunas partes de su historia están lejos de ser graciosas porque ver a los superhéroes adoptando deliberadamente comportamientos inmorales puede ser perturbador para nosotros los espectadores y traumático para los personajes.
A medida que avanza la historia, hay un grupo de humanos que son conscientes del lado oscuro de estos superhéroes, y quieren exponerlos además de pagar por los crímenes que cometen. Estos superhéroes son como superestrellas, tienen admiradores y, lo que es más importante para ellos, tienen todo tipo de productos y negocios que los están enriqueciendo. Es por eso que necesitan tener una personalidad gentil pero falsa hacia el público, de lo contrario, sus fanáticos dejarían de admirarlos y comprar sus productos. Esto es similar a cómo se comportan la mayoría de los políticos. Hay una frase popular que dice "el poder corrompe y el poder absoluto corrompe absolutamente".
Estos superhéroes son hipócritas de doble cara y saben que pueden salirse con la suya con casi todo lo que quieran. El grupo de humanos que están en contra de ellos tiene muchas desventajas pero la historia logra hacer las cosas interesantes, además, no todos los superhéroes son realmente malas personas, hay al menos una excepción de un superhéroe que no es corrupto ni nada así.
Creo que esta serie debe verse, es única, la actuación ha sido increíble hasta ahora, y todos los que conozco que han visto esta serie la han disfrutado como yo, por lo que no eso debería ser una coincidencia, la serie es algo especial.
