A war between Norse and Christians takes place 100 years after "Vikings" and centers on the adventures of Leif Erikson, Freydis, Harald Hardrada.

There are repercussions to everything 👀

Vikings: Valhalla is a new storyline connected to the wildly popular tv show Vikings. The original Vikings show was released by History Channel back in 2013. It went on to have 6 seasons and a total of 93 episodes. That one was very well received and the high ratings show. Today, you can find it on many streaming apps such as Hulu, Prime Video, Peacock, and more.

I never watched Vikings, despite being a huge fan of Norse mythology and loving video games such as God of War and Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. I missed the boat on Vikings and plan to go back and watch all of it soon. The same thing happened to me with Game of Thrones. I waited until the show was finished before I began watching it. Vikings ended in 2020, so now seems to be a good time to begin.

I would have forgotten about Vikings if it were not for 2022's new show Vikings: Valhalla. This is connected to Vikings, but not a direct sequel. Valhalla comes from Netflix and features a new cast, but many have familiar names that you may recognize. I decided to finish all of season 1 of Valhalla before going back to the beginning of the Viking story.

I can say that without a doubt, you can watch Valhalla before Vikings and still understand all of the stories just fine. Although I'm sure most have already watched Vikings. In case you haven't, I'll give you a very brief summary. Vikings travel east for the first time and discover the lands of England. This place mostly lives in peace and is unguarded. This makes the Viking's plans of pillaging rather easy. However, a lot can change after 100 years.

Valhalla is the reality of one century after Vikings. Ragnar is no more and things have evolved. The Christians of England and the rest of Europe are tired of the Vikings and wish to cleanse their lands of the scourge that is the old ways. Many Vikings have left their Norse mythology, which the Christians think of as evil, and call them Pagan. This leaves the Vikings somewhat vulnerable to attack, but they are strong warriors and refuse to give up their past.

Valhalla follows along Leif Eriksson and his sibling Freydis Eriksdotter from Greenland. They and their crew arrive by boat to Kattegat to kill Gunnar Magnusson, who is the right-hand of Olaf Haraldsson, King of Norway. As they get there, they end up getting in the middle of a war between England and the North.

Olaf's brother Harold befriends Leif and develops a sexual connection with Freydis. This adds even more drama to an already sticky situation. This show is a fantastic mix of action and dramatic relationships. Just when you think somebody is on one side, they switch to the other, and then the opposite happens. The back and forth between the Christian and Norse is thrilling. You will begin to see that both ways of living have their positives and negatives.

Death, betrayal, and brutality, are all at play here. Two totally different ways of thinking meet head-on and a side must be chosen. Will the Vikings rule England and the North? Will Vikings be forced to convert to Christianity? Or will they find a way to work together? These are all questions that will be answered or at least expanded upon during season 1 of Vikings: Valhalla.

I absolutely loved this show and cannot wait to go back and watch Vikings now. I highly recommend this to anyone, whether you have watched Vikings already or not. This is one of the best Viking shows that I have ever watched. Norsemen is another great one, but that is more comedy-focused. Check out the trailer for Vikings: Valhalla.
