1. Cold Skin

A young man arrives at a remote island to take a post of weather observer only to find himself defending the watchtower from deadly creatures which live in the island shores.

This film was released in 2017 and is set in Antarctica during the year 1914.

You’d be surprised to find out that Antarctica isn’t always freezing cold. This island is suspicious right from the start and you will learn why if you are patient with this artistic film.

The creatures that inhabit this arctic island are both beautiful and deadly. Wait until you see them in action for the first time. Perhaps they are more human than they seem or maybe they belong deep beneath the sea away from humans.

2. The Vanishing

Three lighthouse keepers on the remote Flannan Isles find a hidden trunk of treasure, leading to their mysterious disappearance.

This film based on a true story was released in 2018 and set on a Scottish island during the year 1900.

The men stationed at this lighthouse are quite the odd bunch. Each one has a distinctively different personality, this causes the plot to get interesting very quickly.

You would think that being out on a far away island all alone would mean no visitors. You would be wrong to assume this and only time will tell if said visitors wish to play nice.

3. The Lighthouse

Two lighthouse keepers try to maintain their sanity while living on a remote and mysterious island.

This film was released in 2019 and is set in New England during the 1890s.

Prepare yourselves for a different approach. This film is in black and white and shot in a square format. This helps get across just how bleak this island is. The true grittiness is apparent throughout this film. The work required to maintain the lighthouse is extremely intense.

The two men begin to butt heads right away. Expect to find some humor hidden within this film. Two men alone equals a lot of odd instances, especially when they both seem to enjoy annoying one another and begin to go stir crazy.
