After several weeks without being able to watch movies due to an overload of work and unusual attendance at different social events, I was finally able to have a rest day in the comfort of my apartment and after doing the housework I wanted to close the day with a movie. However, I chose not to watch a drama, as I almost always do, because I wanted to see something lighter, more basic, an action movie that would entertain me, that had rhythm and good sequences. Without thinking much, I went to the famous agent 007.
Después de varias semanas sin haber podido ver películas debido a una sobrecarga de trabajo y a una inusual asistencia a diferentes eventos sociales, finalmente pude tener un día de descanso en la comodidad de mi departamento y después de hacer las tareas domésticas quise cerrar la jornada con una película. Sin embargo, escogí no ver un drama, como casi siempe hago, porque quería ver algo más ligero, más básico, una película de acción que me entretuviera, que tuviera ritmo y buenas secuencias. Sin pensar mucho, acudí al famoso agente 007.
Since last year, when the arrival of No time to die was announced in theaters, I wanted to revisit, chronologically, the entire saga with Daniel Craig, of which I had once seen the first films, so remembering that and since I wanted to see something moving, I saw Casino Royale, directed by Martin Campbell, the film in which we were introduced to the latest James Bond, Daniel Craig.
The film begins with the first mission of the British agent James Bond (Craig) as agent 007, the famous license to kill, in which after pursuing certain clues he reaches Le Chiffre (the always perfect Mads Mikkelsen), banker of the terrorists of everyone who helps them, not only to protect the money obtained outside the law, but also to invest and obtain profitability, cleaning those funds. To stop him and dismantle the terrorist network, after cornering him, Bond must beat him in a millionaire poker game at the Casino Royale in Montenegro. Give or take a few words, that's the central plot of the film.
Desde el año pasado, cuando se anunció en los cines la llegada de No time to die, tenía ganas de volver a visitar, cronológicamente, toda la saga con Daniel Craig, de las cuales alguna vez había visto las primeras películas, así que recordando eso y como quería ver algo movido, vi Casino Royale, dirigida por Martin Campbell, la cinta en la que se nos introdujo al hasta ahora último James Bond, Daniel Craig.
La película inicia con la primera misión del agente británico James Bond (Craig) como agente 007, la famosa licencia para matar, en la cual después de perseguir ciertas pistas llega hasta Le Chiffre (el siempre perfecto Mads Mikkelsen), banquero de los terroristas de todo el mundo quien les ayuda, no sólo a proteger el dinero obtenido por fuera de la ley sino también a invertir y obtener rentabilidad, lavando esos fondos. Para detenerlo y desmantelar a la red terrorista, después de arrinconarlo, Bond debe vencerlo en una millonaria partida de póquer en el Casino Royale en Montenegro. Palabras más, palabras menos, esa es la trama central de la película.
We then see James Bond trying to fulfill his mission following the orders of M (Judy Dench) and the agency, which is quite difficult for this more rebellious Bond than his predecessors; and of course, we also have the Bond girls. Seductive, brilliant, intelligent, always exotic and beautiful, the two girls in Casino Royale are Solange Dimitrios (Caterina Merino), the wife of one of the film's bad men, and Vesper Lynd (Eva Green), a beautiful Treasury official who joins the hunt and capture of the terrorists.
Vemos entonces a James Bond intentando cumplir su misión siguiendo las órdenes de M (Judy Dench) y la agencia, cosa que le cuesta bastante a este Bond más rebelde que sus predecesores; y por supuesto, tenemos también a las chicas Bond. Seductoras, brillantes, inteligentes, siempre exóticas y hermosas, las dos chicas de Casino Royale son Solange Dimitrios (Caterina Merino), esposa de uno de los hombres malos de la película y Vesper Lynd (Eva Green), una hermosa oficial del Tesoro que se suma a la caza y captura de los terroristas.
There are elements that remain true to the genre and the franchise: the fast and elegant cars, the technological inventions used by 007, the girls and a classy, elegant, arrogant and seductive James Bond. However, unlike his predecessors, especially the more recent ones, Daniel Craig's character is more badass. Yes, the other Bonds we saw fight, bleed, hit and get hit, but this new Bond is more violent and reckless when it comes to facing the villains and is also punished more harshly. A clear example is the iconic scene in which Le Chiffre tortures him, tying him naked to a chair with the seat uncovered to... even if you haven't seen it, you can imagine it. We are facing a stronger, rougher, more muscular, more violent James Bond, with more graphic and intense action scenes.
Hay elementos que se mantienen fieles al género y a la franquicia: los autos rápidos y elegantes, los inventos tecnológicos empleados por 007, las chicas y un James Bond con clase, elegante, arrogante y seductor. Sin embargo, a diferencia de sus predecesores, especialmente los más recientes, el personaje de Daniel Craig es más rudo. Sí, a los otros Bond los vimos pelear, sangrar, golpear y ser golpeados, pero este nuevo Bond es más violento y temerario a la hora de enfrentarse a los villanos y también es castigado de una forma más cruda. Un ejemplo claro es la icónica escena en la que Le Chiffre lo tortura, atándolo desnudo a una silla con el asiento al descubierto para... aunque no la hayan visto, se lo pueden imaginar. Estamos ante un James Bond más fuerte, más rudo, más musculoso, más violento, con escenas de acción más gráficas e intensas.
For the rest, it is a script that accomplishes, without surprising, what is expected of this type of films. Even plot twists that are supposed to be unforeseen are anticipated if one knows not so much about Bond movies as about action movies in general, at least most of those made in recent times. In short, I wanted to see a light, basic movie with rhythm and good sequences that didn't make me think or feel much but would keep me entertained for a couple of hours and that's what I got. Ideal for a Sunday afternoon, especially at those times when you don't know what to see or want to see anything. Over the next few weeks I will be alternating my usual dramas with the following installments of this saga until I reach No time to die, the most recent of the stories of agent 007, one of the most memorable names in film history: Bond. James Bond.
Por lo demás, se trata de un guión que cumple, sin sorpender, lo que se espera de este tipo de películas. Incluso los giros de la trama que se supone deben ser imprevistos, se anticipan si uno conoce no tanto las películas de Bond como las películas de acción en general, al menos la mayoría de las realizadas en los últimos tiempos. En resumen, quería ver una película ligera, básica, con ritmo y buenas secuencias, que no me hiciera pensar ni sentir mucho pero que me mantuviera entretenido durante un par de horas y eso fue lo que conseguí. Ideal para la tarde de un domingo, sobre todo en esos momentos en los que uno no sabe qué ver o quiere ver cualquier cosa. Durante las próximas semanas iré alternando mis dramas de siempre con las siguientes entregas de esta saga hasta llegar a No time to die, la más reciente de las historias del agente 007, uno de los nombres más memorables de la historia de cine: Bond. James Bond.
