En esta nueva publicación me enfocaré en hablar sobre el séptimo arte (el cine). Desde que era una niña he sentido una afición a las películas, incluso puedo memorizarlas, soy fan de la gran mayoría de los géneros del cine aunque me enfoco en ver películas que dejen un mensaje positivo al espectador.
In this new publication I will focus on talking about the seventh art (cinema). Since I was a child I have felt a fondness for movies, I can even memorize them, I am a fan of most of the genres of cinema although I focus on watching movies that leave a positive message to the viewer.
Aunque ya estoy un poco grande me gusta mucho el cine infantil o animado en especial las películas de Disney. Cuando era niña soñaba con ser una princesa de cuentos de hadas tal y como lo reflejaban las películas, pero no quería ser cualquier princesa, mi inspiración desde muy pequeña fue “Mulan” y siendo una de mis películas favoritas por su inspirador mensaje a niñas y mujeres haré una comparación del clásico animado de 1998 y el live action que se estrenó el 2020.
Although I'm a little older now, I really like children's or animated films, especially Disney movies. When I was a child I dreamed of being a fairy tale princess as reflected in the movies, but I didn't want to be just any princess, my inspiration since I was a little girl was "Mulan" and being one of my favorite movies for its inspiring message to girls and women I will make a comparison of the 1998 animated classic and the live action that was released in 2020.
Para los que no conocen esta película, Mulan se basa en la leyenda de una joven que vive en china la cual decide enlistarse en el ejército haciéndose pasar por un hombre para tomar el lugar de su padre, quien es el único hombre en la familia, el cual está viejo y enfermo. Esta obstinada chica sin importar los llamados de atención de su familia toma la espada y armadura de su padre y escapa de su casa en la noche.
For those who don't know this movie, Mulan is based on the legend of a young girl living in China who decides to enlist in the army pretending to be a man to take the place of her father, who is the only man in the family, who is old and sick. This stubborn girl regardless of her family's calls for attention takes her father's sword and armor and escapes from his house at night.
Habiendo explicado un poco sobre esta leyenda continuaremos con la comparación de ambas películas. ¡Empecemos!.

Todos sabemos que las películas de Disney son conocidas por sus canciones divertidas, pegajosas y que ayudan a entender los sentimientos del personaje o a interpretar alguna escena de la película. En la versión animada de Mulan el soundtrack destaca con canciones como “Mi reflejo”, “Mi chica es la razón” y “Hombres de acción serán hoy”.
We all know that Disney movies are known for their fun, catchy songs that help you understand the character's feelings or interpret some scene of the movie. In the animated version of Mulan the soundtrack stands out with songs like "My Reflection", "My Girl is the Reason" and "Men of Action Will Be Today".
Aunque disfrutamos de estas canciones en la animación de Disney, el live action no posee un soundtrack como el que mencionamos anteriormente, las canciones de la versión original no están incluidas en el film ahora son piezas instrumentales ya que la directora de la película Niki Caro explicó en una entrevista con “Digital spy” que quería enfocarse en la guerra, el cual es un tema serio, la banda sonora original le quitaba realismo a la película.
Although we enjoy these songs in the Disney animation, the live action does not have a soundtrack like the one we mentioned before, the songs of the original version are not included in the film now they are instrumental pieces since the director of the film Niki Caro explained in an interview with "Digital spy" that she wanted to focus on the war, which is a serious subject, the original soundtrack took away the realism of the film.
Otra de las cosas ausentes en el remake son tres personajes claves en la animación los cuales son: el carismático y gracioso dragón Mushu, que ayuda a Mulan en su viaje, el general Li Shang, quien es el superior y también el interés amoroso de Mulan está ausente en el film así como también el grillo de la suerte Crick kee.
Also absent from the remake are three key characters in the animation: the charismatic and funny dragon Mushu, who helps Mulan on her journey. General Li Shang, who is Mulan's superior and also Mulan's love interest is absent in the film as well as the lucky cricket Crick kee.
Otra diferencia bastante notoria es que en la película animada Mulan no tiene experiencia alguna en combate, ni manejo de la espada u otros instrumentos de defensa, más bien se nota que es una joven tímida y desequilibrada, incapaz de seguir costumbres y reglas, además de ser un poco torpe, debido a esto trae caos y vergüenza a su vida y su familia.
Another very noticeable difference is that in the animated film Mulan has no experience in combat, or handling the sword or other instruments of defense, rather it is noted that she is a shy and unbalanced young woman, unable to follow customs and rules, besides being a little clumsy, because of this she brings chaos and shame to her life and her family.
En el remake desde niña Mulan tiene habilidades desarrolladas y un equilibrio digno de un guerrero, su padre se da cuenta de que es poseedora de un chi y le advierte que debe controlarlo. La differencia es más que clara, mientras que en la versión original es una chica distraída y sin habilidades en el live action es un poco más centrada y poseedora de un poderoso chi, sin embargo, algo que es propio de Mulan en ambas películas es su valentía, su determinación y la lealtad hacia su familia.
In the remake Mulan as a child has developed skills and a balance worthy of a warrior, her father realizes that she is possessed of a chi and warns her that she must control it. The difference is more than clear, while in the original version is a distracted girl without skills in the live action is a little more focused and possessing a powerful chi, however, something that is characteristic of Mulan in both films is her courage, determination and loyalty to her family.
En el remake podemos ver que hay algunos personajes ausentes, como lo mencione antes, pero también hay nuevos personajes como Xian Lang, una bruja muy poderosa la cual es discriminada por la sociedad al demostrar su chi y sus capacidades para luchar, aunque desarrolla su papel como villana, lo que desea es ser aceptada y respetada por la sociedad. Ella representa al halcón que vemos en la animación.
In the remake we can see that there are some absent characters, as I mentioned before, but there are also new characters like Xian Lang, a very powerful witch who is discriminated by society to demonstrate her chi and her abilities to fight, although she develops her role as a villain, what she wants is to be accepted and respected by society. She represents the hawk that we see in the animation.
Otro personaje es el villano Bori Khan el cual pudimos ver en la animación pero con un nombre distinto ya que el anterior era llamado Shan Yu pero ambos tienen como objetivo principal conquistar China con sus tropas y causar caos y muerte.
Another character is the villain Bori Khan which we could see in the animation but with a different name since the previous one was called Shan Yu but both have as main objective to conquer China with his troops and cause chaos and death.
Otros personajes nuevos que aparecen en la nueva versión son la mítica ave fénix, la cual reemplaza a el dragón Mushu como guía de Mulan y el soldado Chen Honghui quién reemplaza a Li Shang pero no como el interés amoroso de Mulan más bien es un buen amigo que ayuda a Mulan.
Other new characters that appear in the new version are the mythical phoenix, which replaces the dragon Mushu as Mulan's guide and the soldier Chen Honghui who replaces Li Shang but not as Mulan's love interest but as a good friend who helps Mulan.
Desde mi punto de vista, considero que ambas películas son muy buenas aunque siempre admire a Mulan y mi versión favorita siempre será la original de 1998, esto se debe a que me identifico más con la versión imperfecta y distraída del clásico animado, además que cuando escucho el soundtrack no puedo evitar cantar las canciones. Para mi esta versión no tiene imperfecciones.
From my point of view, I consider both movies to be very good even though I always admire Mulan and my favorite version will always be the original 1998 version, this is because I identify more with the imperfect and distracted version of the animated classic, plus when I listen to the soundtrack I can't help but sing along to the songs. For me this version has no imperfections.
El remake tampoco tiene imperfecciones para mi, aunque no estoy de acuerdo con algunos cambios puedo decir que disfruté ver la actuación de muchos personajes, en especial la de Liu Yifei (intérprete de Mulan) y la de Gong Li (intérprete de Xian Lang). Puedo decir que disfruté esta película por el nivel de madurez y seriedad que posee enfocándonos en lo graves que pueden ser las guerras, la falta de lealtad y honestidad y la desigualdad de género.
The remake has no flaws for me either, although I don't agree with some changes I can say that I enjoyed watching the acting of many characters, especially Liu Yifei (Mulan's interpreter) and Gong Li (Xian Lang's interpreter). I can say that I enjoyed this movie because of the level of maturity and seriousness it possesses focusing on how serious wars, lack of loyalty and honesty and gender inequality can be.
Considero que ambas películas son buenas pero para diferentes ocasiones, por ejemplo, para disfrutar y reír en familia la versión animada es la ideal, mientras que el live action es el indicado para aprender y concientizarnos de las situaciones planteadas en la película.
I consider that both films are good but for different occasions, for example, to enjoy and laugh with the family the animated version is ideal, while the live action is the right one to learn and raise awareness of the situations raised in the film.
Finalizando les daré un dato curioso sobre Mulan y es que ella es ambidiestra y en la animación vemos que escribe, come y usa el arco con la mano zurda pero al momento de usar la espada lo hace con la mano derecha.
Finally, I will give you a curious fact about Mulan: she is ambidextrous and in the animation we see that she writes, eats and uses the bow with her left hand, but when using the sword she does it with her right hand.
