A few days ago I saw again the movie “The Green Mile” friends for me one of the saddest and most reflective in the world of cinema, what a brutal movie. It is one of those that leave you with a mixture of emotions that you don't even know how to process, I sincerely cry with this movie, but let me tell you a little of what it's about. First, the story is set in a prison, and follows Paul (Tom Hanks), a guard working on death row. So far, it seems like just another prison movie, but what gives it the incredible twist is when a prisoner named John Coffey shows up, for me the great John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a huge guy, but with a heart of gold.
Hace unos días me vi nuevamente la película “La milla verde” amigos para mí una de las más tristes y reflexivas en el mundo del cine, qué película tan brutal. Es de esas que te dejan con una mezcla de emociones que no sabes ni cómo procesar, yo sinceramente lloro con esta película, pero déjame contarte un poco de que trata. Primero, la historia está ambientada en una prisión, y sigue a Paul (Tom Hanks), un guardia que trabaja en el corredor de la muerte. Hasta ahí, parece otra película más de prisiones, pero lo que le da el giro increíble es cuando aparece un prisionero llamado John Coffey, para mí el gran John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), un tipo enorme, pero con un corazón de oro.
Coffey, is condemned to death for a terrible crime: the death of two little girls. But from the moment you see him, you realize that something doesn't add up. This guy is no murderer. He has a look like a frightened child, and what impressed me most was his calm, innocent nature. There's something about the way he is that makes you doubt everything you think about him, and best of all, the guy has a supernatural gift, brutal but brutal, as I wish this would happen in real life: he can heal people just by touching them.
Coffey, está condenado a muerte por un crimen terrible: la muerte de dos niñas. Pero desde el momento en que lo ves, te das cuenta de que algo no cuadra. Este tipo no es ningún asesino, Tiene una mirada como de niño asustado, y lo que más me impresionó fue su naturaleza tranquila, inocente. Hay algo en su forma de ser que te hace dudar de todo lo que piensas de él y lo mejor de todo es que el tipo tiene un don sobrenatural, brutal pero brutal, como quisiera que esto pasara en la vida real: puede curar a las personas con solo tocarlas.
One of the scenes that stuck with me the most was when Coffey cures Paul of his bladder infection. It's like the guy absorbs people's pain and sickness and then releases it in a black cloud. And it's that, even though he's there awaiting his execution, he's the only one who seems to have a genuine sense of compassion. It's an incredible contrast between the brutality of prison and the goodness that Coffey represents, remember that in prison there are also innocent people for convenience.
Una de las escenas que más me marcó fue cuando Coffey cura a Paul de su infección de vejiga. Es como si el tipo absorbiera el dolor y la enfermedad de la gente y luego lo libera en una nube negra. Y es que, a pesar de que él está ahí esperando su ejecución, es el único que parece tener un sentido genuino de compasión. Es un contraste increíble entre la brutalidad de la prisión y la bondad que Coffey representa, recordemos en la cárcel también hay gente inocente por conveniencia.
Another thing that struck me was the character of Percy, one of the guards, man, what an obnoxious, slimy guy. He's a typical guy who abuses power because he knows he can, and the way he treats the prisoners makes you wish someone would rip his face in two. That guy gives the movie an incredible level of tension, because at any moment he can do something that puts everyone in danger.
But it's not just Percy, there's also the prisoner “Wild Bill” (Sam Rockwell), who is the complete opposite of Coffey. A totally unhinged, dangerous guy, and without an ounce of humanity. Between the two of them, Percy and Wild Bill, they create such a tense atmosphere that at any moment you think something terrible is going to happen, their scenes of madness are disgusting but they do know how to reflect the true essence of a mentally ill person.
Otra cosa que me impactó fue el personaje de Percy, uno de los guardias, amigos, qué tipo tan odioso y baboso. Es el típico que abusa del poder porque sabe que puede, y la manera en que trata a los prisioneros te hace desear que alguien le parta la cara en dos. Ese tipo le da a la película un nivel de tensión increíble, porque en cualquier momento puede hacer algo que ponga a todos en peligro.
Pero no es solo Percy, también está el prisionero "Wild Bill" (Sam Rockwell), que es todo lo contrario a Coffey. Un tipo totalmente desquiciado, peligroso, y sin un gramo de humanidad. Entre los dos, Percy y Wild Bill, crean un ambiente tan tenso que en cualquier momento piensas que algo terrible va a pasar, sus escenas de locura dan asco pero sí que saben reflejar la verdadera esencia de un enfermo mental.
Another thing I quite liked is how the film handles pacing. Even though it's long, it never feels heavy. Every scene has a purpose, and there are no moments where you say “this is too much” or “this is boring”. The chemistry between the actors is brutal, Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan steal the show, no doubt I love Tom Hanks, his serenity at all times, his discipline, we have seen this reflected in other films like Forrest Gump, Castaway and Saving Private Ryan. The way the relationship between Paul and Coffey evolves is very natural, which makes everything that happens at the end even more devastating.
Well my cinephile boys to finish this review The Green Mile is a movie that hits you hard in the heart, makes you reflect on life and death, injustice, and human kindness, it's like when we see the Chavo del 8, we see the same chapter a thousand times and we keep laughing at the same thing, well just like here you see this movie a thousand times and a thousand times you break down, you are filled with rage and helplessness. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it.

Otra cosa que me gustó bastante es cómo la película maneja el ritmo. Aunque es larga, nunca se siente pesada. Cada escena tiene un propósito, y no hay momentos en los que digas "esto sobra" o “esto aburre”. La química entre los actores es brutal, Tom Hanks y Michael Clarke Duncan se roban el show, sin duda amo a Tom Hanks, su serenidad en todo momento, su disciplina, esto lo hemos visto reflejados en otras películas como Forrest Gump, Náufrago y Rescatando al Soldado Ryan. La manera en que la relación entre Paul y Coffey evoluciona es muy natural, lo que hace que todo lo que pasa al final sea aún más devastador.
Bueno mis muchachones cinéfilos para culminar esta reseña La milla verde es una película que te golpea fuerte en el corazón, te hace reflexionar sobre la vida y la muerte, la injusticia, y la bondad humana, es como cuando vemos el Chavo del 8, que vemos un mismo capítulo una y mil veces y nos seguimos riendo de lo mismo, bueno tal cual aquí ves esta película una y mil veces y mil veces te quebrantas, te llenas de rabia y de impotencia.
