La espera finalmente terminó y el pasado 9 de noviembre Netflix estrenó, por fin, la quinta temporada de una de las mejores series de su catálogo: The Crown. Si acaso son de las pocas personas que no han escuchado hablar de esta, The Crown es una serie dramática que nos cuenta la historia de la monarquía británica, comenzando desde la coronación de la Reina Isabel II.
Esta quinta temporada está ambientada en los años noventa, así que casi todo gira en torno de la relación entre Diana y Carlos, los príncipes de Gales, su separación y su posterior divorcio, así como también las “dificultades” a las que se enfrentó la corona sobre esa época al ser percibidos como una institución obsoleta e innecesaria.
Una de las cosas que siempre me ha gustado de The Crown es su forma de representar el lado humano de la monarquía, sin perder la oportunidad de realizar una crítica bastante interesante de estos y de forma en la que su privilegio los ha llegado a convertir en criaturas casi irreales, donde ellos se perciben sí mismos como seres casi divinos, cuando la realidad es bastante opuesta a eso.
Si bien en esta temporada también está presente dicha crítica, creo que ha perdido bastante peso con relación a las temporadas anteriores, no sé si se deba al fallecimiento de la Reina y de su consorte o si simplemente han cedido a las quejas de que han sido demasiado duros con la monarquía.
Dicho esto, no quiero que piensen que es una mala temporada, al contrario, como todas las de The Crown es excelente, mucho mejor que cualquier serie promedio, es solamente que precisamente esa crítica era de mis cosas favoritas y la extrañé bastante, sobre todo porque siento que se esforzaron demasiado en hacer pasar al Príncipe Carlos como un buen tipo.
The wait is finally over and on November 9 Netflix finally released the fifth season of one of the best series in its catalog: The Crown. If you are one of the few people who have not heard of it, The Crown is a drama series that tells the story of the British monarchy, starting from the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
This fifth season is set in the nineties, so almost everything revolves around the relationship between Diana and Charles, the princes of Wales, their separation and subsequent divorce, as well as the "difficulties" the crown faced about that time being perceived as an obsolete and unnecessary institution.
One of the things I have always liked about The Crown is its way of representing the human side of the monarchy, without losing the opportunity to make a very interesting criticism of them and the way in which their privilege has turned them into almost unreal creatures, where they perceive themselves as almost divine beings, when the reality is quite the opposite of that.
While in this season that criticism is also present, I think it has lost quite a bit of weight compared to previous seasons, I do not know if it is due to the death of the Queen and her consort or if they have simply given in to complaints that they have been too hard on the monarchy.
That said, I don't want you to think it's a bad season, on the contrary, like all of The Crown it's excellent, much better than any average series, it's just that precisely that review was one of my favorite things and I missed it quite a bit, especially because I feel they tried too hard to pass off Prince Charles as a good guy.
Algo que me encantó de esta temporada fueron las “side stories”, esto fue algo que le critiqué mucho a Dahmer, pero es que en The Crown están tan bien escritas que hasta dan ganas de ver un spin-off de los Al-Fayed o una serie de los Romanoff, por supuesto que escritas por los encargados de esta serie. Quizás para muchos estos capítulos no les parecieron atractivos, pero a mí, la forma en la que relacionaron las historias de todos, me pareció estupenda.
Esas “side-stories” permitieron que la trama no se enfocara únicamente en Diana y Carlos, lo cual era uno de mis temores más grandes al comenzar a ver la temporada, por suerte a medida que fueron trascurriendo los episodios me di cuenta de que eso estaba lejos de ser cierto, hubo capítulos dedicados a otros miembros de la Corona, incluso hay uno en el que se ve mucho a Camila Parker, algo que seguramente no le gustó para nada a los Dianistas.
Hubo un tono bastante neutral en todo el triángulo amoroso Diana-Carlos-Camila, no se fueron por el camino obvio de hacer a Carlos y a Camila los villanos de la historia y a Diana la mártir, presentaron el conflicto con los detalles necesarios para llenar a los personajes de matices que los hicieron más creíbles y menos encasillados.
Hablando de matices, disfruté bastante el “conflicto” creado en esta temporada para la Reina, creo que ha sido el momento en el que he visto al personaje más vulnerable y más cercano a una persona “normal”, aunque para eso se haya sacrificado un poco la crítica a la Reina creo que ha valido la pena para poder disfrutar de un lado diferente de este personaje.
En general, los capítulos me han parecido excelentes, como es costumbre en The Crown las locaciones son exquisitas, desde los palacios ingleses hasta el retirado Britannia se puede percibir la opulencia tan característica de la monarquía y ni hablar de los vestuarios, solamente con emular los looks de la Princesa Diana se ganaron mi admiración, sobre todo con el famosísimo vestido de la venganza, PRECIOSO.
Something I loved about this season were the "side stories", this was something I criticized a lot to Dahmer, but in The Crown they are so well written that they even make you want to see a spin-off of the Al-Fayed or a series of the Romanoffs, of course written by the people in charge of this series. Maybe for many people these chapters did not seem attractive, but for me, the way in which they related everyone's stories, I thought it was great.
Those "side-stories" allowed the plot not to focus only on Diana and Charles, which was one of my biggest fears when I started watching the season, luckily as the episodes went on I realized that this was far from being true, there were chapters dedicated to other members of the Crown, there is even one in which Camilla Parker is seen a lot, something that surely did not please the Dianists at all.
There was a fairly neutral tone throughout the Diana-Charles-Camilla love triangle, they didn't go down the obvious path of making Carlos and Camila the villains of the story and Diana the martyr, they presented the conflict with the necessary details to fill the characters with nuances that made them more believable and less typecast.
Speaking of nuances, I quite enjoyed the "conflict" created in this season for the Queen, I think it has been the moment in which I have seen the character more vulnerable and closer to a "normal" person, although for that the criticism of the Queen has been sacrificed a little I think it was worth it to be able to enjoy a different side of this character.
In general, the chapters have seemed excellent to me, as usual in The Crown the locations are exquisite, from the English palaces to the retired Britannia you can perceive the opulence so characteristic of the monarchy and not to mention the costumes, just by emulating the looks of Princess Diana they won my admiration, especially with the famous revenge dress, GORGEOUS.

Recuerdo que cuando revelaron el cast me emocioné demasiado al ver a Imelda Staunton y a Jonathan Pryce entre ellos, ambos me parecen excelentes actores, no solamente por sus roles en el cine y la televisión, sino porque son un par de actores de teatro completamente consagrados y para los británicos eso es muy importante.
Así que ver a este par como la Reina y su consorte fue estupendo, recuerdo que hubo una escena en la que la Reina está siendo “regañada” por su madre y el Duque interviene a su favor, la interpretación de ambos en ese momento es tan pura que inmediatamente se convirtió en mi favorita de este par.
Pero sin duda alguna la estrella de esta temporada fue Elizabeth Debiki, estuvo perfecta como Diana, desde sus expresiones faciales, corporales, hasta la voz, fue increíble ver un trabajo de ese nivel, verdaderamente estupenda, no tengo más que admiración por el trabajo de esta maravillosa actriz, definitivamente la veo como un fuerte contendiente para la temporada de premios.
A pesar de tener un cast de actores muy talentosos, creo que físicamente la mayoría no tiene un buen parecido con las personas reales, el ejemplo más evidente de esto es el Príncipe Carlos, por quien además se esfuerzan notoriamente en hacerlo quedar “bien”, no sé si para limpiar un poco la imagen de la temporada pasada o qué, pero eso fue algo que no me gusto para nada, hacer pasar a alguien como “bueno” cuando evidentemente no lo es.

Despite having a cast of very talented actors, I think physically most of them don't have a good resemblance to the real people, the most obvious example of this is Prince Charles, for whom they also make a notorious effort to make him look "good", I don't know if it was to clean up the image of last season or what, but that was something I didn't like at all, making someone look "good" when he obviously is not.

It was a simple time and that is shown in this fifth season.

Las actuaciones siempre han sido lo mejor de esta serie y esta no es la excepción, algunos destacaron más que otros, pero en general todos los personajes principales me parecieron bastante bien trabajados.
