Saludos cordiales amigos de #hive en especial a los que hacen vida en #motherhood hoy vengo a contarles un poco de mis vivencias con la salud bucal de mis dos hijos.
Warm greetings friends of #hive especially to those who make life in #motherhood today I come to tell you a little of my experiences with the oral health of my two children.
Seeing a child with cavities or any other dental disease always seemed terrible to me, my sister and my mother took care of our teeth in such a way that we never had a cavity and I always thought that I would do the same when it was my turn to be a mother. From the first days they were born I remember that I cleaned their mouths with a sterile gauze moistened with water, since their tongues used to turn white due to the ingestion of breast milk and infant formulas, a task that I carried out until their first tooth came out and I started to clean them with a toothbrush.

Many times I heard that the teething process began at 6 months of life, in the case of my children it was not so, the female had her first tooth at 9 months and the male at 11 months. I remember that when I took my daughter to one of the well-baby check-ups when she was 7 months old, I presented my concern to the pediatrician. In a very simple way she explained to me that it was something normal, not all bodies are the same, each one develops at its own pace and she also told me that the longer it took for her baby teeth to come in, the longer it would take to lose them and so it was. A curious fact is that I used to write down on the pediatric control card the date when the teeth erupted, which I still have with all the teeth that have molted so far.

Mariana molted her first tooth when she was 7 years old and I tell you that at 10 years old she still believes in the tooth fairy and I have kept each tooth as a souvenir that when she is older I will show her. Since she had created the habit of brushing her teeth three times a day, as the song says; after breakfast, after lunch and before going to bed, what I had to do when she started to molt was to explain to her that she had to take more care of her teeth, since they were permanent.
Despite all the care I gave her in 2021 while playing with her brother my daughter fell out of bed and broke one of the central incisors, at the time the scare was so big that I started to cry, I knew that tooth would not come out again and would have to go to the dentist to rebuild it. Thanks to the fact that the impact was not so deep the root of the tooth was not affected and it was not necessary to perform any invasive treatment, they only applied resin to reshape the tooth again.
In that visit to the dentist, the doctor, after the call of attention for that accident, congratulated her because her teeth were very healthy and emphasized that now she should be very scrupulous with what she chewed with the reconstructed tooth, because it was fragile, like a glass and she should take good care of it.

In the case of my son, he began to molt at the age of 6 years old and so far he has only molted two teeth; the central incisors of the lower jaw, but when the first tooth began to erupt I noticed that its color was not normal, it looked yellowish and so did the consecutive molars erupt. In the first instance I consulted a dentist and she mentioned that it could be dental hypomineralization, a disorder that affects the tooth enamel, I also mentioned it to her pediatrician who ordered blood tests to verify the calcium levels, which showed normal values, thus ruling out any lack of this important mineral in the constitution of the teeth.
Later, in order to have a more accurate diagnosis, I took him to the dentist and the diagnosis was more encouraging. The doctor explained to me that they were a kind of "dental moles" that do not represent a major problem, however, he should maintain good oral hygiene and go for an annual check-up.
Because of all these experiences I have had, my advice and recommendation is to teach your children to brush their teeth from an early age to keep them clean, keep their gums healthy, avoid diseases such as the dreaded cavities and ensure that they feel good. Accidents like my daughter's may happen, but above all we must remain calm and remember that today there are many dental treatment options for dental problems that allow us to give our children back a nice smile and make them feel confident about their personal appearance.
