Hoy les hablaré sobre un tema que creo que a todos los padres nos causa mucho estrés, me refiero a 'La fiebre en nuestros pequeños', un enemigo latente, al cual yo particularmente le tengo temor, sobretodo cuando es mi niña quien la padece pues hemos pasado por convulsiones febriles y no puedo evitar el miedo cada vez que tenemos una temperatura elevada en casa. 🤒

Today I will talk to you about a topic that I think causes all parents a lot of stress, I mean 'Fever in our little ones', a latent enemy, which I particularly fear, especially when it is my little girl who suffers from it because we have gone through febrile convulsions and I can not avoid the fear every time we have a high temperature at home. 🤒
La fiebre no es más que el incremento de la temperatura corporal, son muchas las causas que la producen pero en general se presenta cuando el cuerpo intenta combatir enfermedades como virus e infecciones que alteran nuestro sistema inmunológico, es una especie de alerta para que estemos atentos que algo no está bien. 🌡️
De acuerdo con las indicaciones de la pediatra, cuando Lucía presenta fiebre debo tratar de estabilizar o bajar un poco su temperatura con baños de agua tibia, frotando todas las partes de su cuerpo donde se almacena el calor, es decir su espalda, axilas, cuello, parte de atrás de las rodillas y además de mojar mucho pero mucho su cabeza. Este baño debo hacerlo antes de darle el medicamento para la fiebre porque estos medicamentos tienden a subir la temperatura antes de empezar su efecto para bajarla, osea produce picos de temperatura alta y luego la fiebre empieza a bajar.
During these carnivals unfortunately my daughter Lucia had a very strong fever, since Thursday night she had a fever of 39.5 degrees Celsius, I noticed because she is super active and suddenly she fell asleep and her cheeks were reddened, when I touched her I felt her hands very hot and proceeded to take her temperature with the help of a conventional mercury thermometer and it was that we found that she had a fever.🤒
Fever is nothing more than the increase in body temperature, there are many causes that produce it but in general it occurs when the body tries to fight diseases such as viruses and infections that alter our immune system, it is a kind of alert for us to be aware that something is not right. 🌡️
According to the pediatrician's instructions, when Lucia has a fever I must try to stabilize or lower her temperature a little with warm water baths, rubbing all the parts of her body where the heat is stored, that is her back, armpits, neck, back of the knees and also wetting her head very, very much. This bath should be done before giving him the fever medicine because these medicines tend to raise the temperature before they start to lower it, that is, they produce high temperature peaks and then the fever starts to go down.
We spent the whole night with a high fever, it would go down for a couple of hours and then the temperature would go up again, so I decided to take her in the morning to a health center with an alternative pediatrician because Lucia's regular pediatrician was out of town. This doctor checked her lungs and throat, told us that the girl was fine and that she needed lab and urine tests to find out the origin of the fever. We did the tests and in the results there were no altered values so the pediatrician told us that it was a viral process and that we should continue only with the antipyretic because the fever would go away, he prescribed only to ingest liquids, rest and repeat the lab tests in 48 hours in case the fever persisted.💉
After 48 hours Lucia still had a fever, so this time I took her to the emergency room of a clinic to be checked again, this time there was another doctor on duty who told us that the girl was starting tonsillitis and that was the cause of the high fever, however we performed laboratory tests again and when we had the results the doctor indicated us the treatment to follow with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and oral antiseptics. Thank God we found all the medicines and we started her treatment that day, that same night the fever started to go down, it was no longer over 39 degrees and Lucia had a little more appetite and better mood.🙏
- Mantener la calma, si los peques nos ven nerviosos esos los altera más y ya con padecer la fiebre es bastante estrés para ellos, se que es difícil pero no es imposible. 🙏
- Confirmar la temperatura, emplear termómetros convencionales ya que los electrónicos tienen un margen de error considerable.🌡️
- Bajar un poco la temperatura con baños de agua tibia antes de suministrar el antipiretico, yo uso los juguetes de playa de Lucia al bañarla eso lo hace menos traumático y más entretenido para ella.😊
- Tener en cuenta que la dosis de antipiretico indicada para nuestro hijo depende se su peso, por lo que no debemos automedicarlos, porque si le damos menos de lo indicado la fiebre no cederá y si le damos más podemos sobremedicarlo y causarle un daño mayor.👍
- Mantener a nuestro hijo hidratado, es difícil porque cuando tienen fiebre no quieren absolutamente nada pero hay que tratar de que ingiera alimentos y líquidos para evitar deshidratación.🥤
- Consultar con su pediatra o médico, las fiebres se presentan para avisarnos que algo no está bien entonces es mejor acudir con el médico lo antes posible para que lo evalúe y medique de forma correcta.👩🏼⚕️
It is very important that when our children have a fever we act immediately, because high temperatures can cause damage to our little ones and sometimes seizures, some tips that I applied are:
- Keep calm, if the little ones see us nervous those alters them more and already suffering from fever is enough stress for them, I know it is difficult but it is not impossible. 🙏
- Confirm the temperature, use conventional thermometers since electronic thermometers have a considerable margin of error. 🌡️
- Lower the temperature a bit with warm water baths before giving the antipyretic, I use Lucia's beach toys when bathing her that makes it less traumatic and more entertaining for her.😊
- Keep in mind that the dose of antipyretic indicated for our child depends on their weight, so we should not self-medicate, because if we give them less than indicated the fever will not go down and if we give them more we can overmedicate and cause greater damage.
- Keep our child hydrated, it is difficult because when they have fever they do not want anything at all, but we must try to make them ingest food and liquids to avoid dehydration.
- Consult with your pediatrician or doctor, fevers occur to warn us that something is not right so it is best to go to the doctor as soon as possible to be evaluated and medicated correctly.👩🏼⚕️
Fevers are scary but if we treat them immediately and seek medical help we can deal with them, already my princess Lucia is much better thank God 🙏 that's why I share with you my experience that I hope will be useful in case you go through a similar situation.
