We are celebrating, my daughter Amanda overcame the insufficiency of calcium and protein excretion in the urine, which prevented her from being in the percentile for her chronological age in height and weight. I am not going to use scientific terms, but this disorder can become complicated if it is not detected in time. Amanda's body managed to find its balance, the latest medical results indicate that everything is in order.

Estamos de fiesta, mi hija Amanda Superó la insuficiencia de excreción del calcio y proteína en la orina, lo cual, le impedía estar en el percentil para su edad cronológica en talla y peso. No voy a usar términos científicos, pero este trastorno puede complicarse sino es detectado a tiempo. El organismo de Amanda logró buscar su equilibrio, los últimos resultados médicos indican que todo está en orden.

Amanda's body reacted, she is within the growth and weight parameters, but how was my daughter diagnosed? Because I studied special education and I knew that there was a delay in the percentile and I insisted to the pediatrician to perform tests to detect any problem. The child at 4 months old had her first urinary tract infection, the test results revealed my suspicions and she was referred to nephrology.
El organismo de Amanda reaccionó, se encuentra dentro de los parámetros de crecimiento y peso, pero ¿cómo mi hija fue diagnosticada? Porque estudie educación especial y sabía que había un retrasado en el percentil y le insistí al pediatra para realizarle pruebas que detecten algún problema. La niña a los 4 meses de nacida tuvo su primera infección de orina, los resultados de los exámenes revelaron mis sospechas y fue referida a nefrología.
The doctor congratulated me for detecting the irregularity early. Amanda started her treatment, low salt diet, a weight gain formula and multivitamin, however, my girl did not like the formula and clung more to the breast, which helped her immune system. Amanda took potassium citrate until she was three years old; then we moved to Argentina and the pandemic prevented the doctors from examining her, so she went a year without control and I kept her on the diet.
La doctora me felicitó por detectar la irregularidad a tiempo. Amanda empezó su tratamiento, dieta bajo en sal, una fórmula para aumentar de peso y multivitamínico, sin embargo, a mi niña no le gustó la fórmula y se aferró más al pecho, lo cual, la ayudó a su sistema inmunológico. Amanda tomó citrato de potasio hasta los tres años; luego nos mudamos a Argentina y la pandemia impidió que la examinarán los médicos, así que pasó un año sin control y le mantuve la dieta.
March 2021 arrived and the health system became more flexible, I requested an appointment for pediatrics, the doctor ordered the necessary tests to refer to nephrology. The girl underwent several blood tests, ultrasounds and even a heart check-up. The comprehensive evaluation took 4 months and on Wednesday, August 4, Amanda was discharged from the hospital because the disorder disappeared. The doctors say that her body overcame the functioning standard levels. Amanda will now be seen by a pediatrician to study her evolution.
Llegó marzo del 2021 y el sistema de salud se flexibilizó, solicite turno para pediatría, el doctor indicó exámenes de rigor para referir a nefrología. La niña fue sometida a diversos estudios de sangres, ecografías y hasta revisión del corazón. La evaluación integral se llevó 4 meses y el miércoles 4 de agosto, Amanda fue dada de alta médica porque el trastorno desapareció. Los médicos dicen que su organismo superó el funcionamiento hasta llegar a los niveles estándares. Amanda ahora será atendida por un pediatra de cabecera para estudiar su evolución.
I can tell you that since the diagnosis until now, I put myself in the position of many mothers who go through an interference, difficulty or condition in the development of their child. The recklessness of people to constantly point out the characteristics of a child, so, I learned to respond politely, sometimes in bad taste and other times I changed the subject and until I understood that people like to receive an answer. Amanda knew how to take urine samples since she was a little girl, she recognized when she had to urinate and recently she faced the needle experience without fear, the nurses congratulated her because she did not cry, it was a work at home that allowed me to create a behavior of security and confidence in me. Likewise, I guided her in the ultrasound exams so that the urge to urinate would not overcome her and everything went very well, my daughter is mature when she is being evaluated by doctors.
Les puedo decir que desde el diagnóstico hasta ahora, me puse en la posición de muchas madres que atraviesan una interferencia, dificultad o condición en el desarrollo de su hijo. La imprudencia de las personas para señalar constantemente sobre las características de un hijo, así que, aprendí a responder educadamente, otras veces de mal gusto y en otras oportunidades cambiaba de tema y hasta que comprendí que las personas les gusta recibir una respuesta. Amanda desde pequeña supo tomar muestras de orina, reconocía cuando debía orinar y reciente enfrentó la experiencia por las agujas sin temor, las enfermeras la felicitaban porque no lloraba, fue un trabajo en casa que me permitió crear un comportamiento de seguridad y confianza en mí. Asimismo, la orienté en los exámenes de ecografías para que las ganas de orinar no la vencieran y todo salió muy bien, mi hija es madura cuando está siendo evaluada por médicos.
