Те, що навіть після розпаду СРСР Україну у світі мало хто знав як самостійну державу, відомо всім. Те, що українця і називали за кордонами 'рашен', також всі знають. Приходилось пояснювати іноземцям, що ніякі ми не 'раша', і розповідати про нашу прекрасну країну. Але все одно, про нас знали тільки через чорнобильську трагедію, не більше.
Наш народ за 30 років незалежності пройшов нелегкий шлях до розбудови вільної самостійної держави. Наша боротьба продовжується і зараз, адже росія продовжує повномасштабну агресію проти України. Але тепер майже весь світ - на нашому боці. І українців вже ніхто не сплутає ні з ким іншим. А про країну знають навіть діти іноземців.
The fact that even after the collapse of the USSR, few people in the world knew Ukraine as an independent state is known to everyone. The fact that a Ukrainian was called "rasha" abroad is also known by everyone. I had to explain to foreigners that we are not a "rasha" and talk about our beautiful country. Our struggle continues even now, because Russia continues its full-scale aggression against Ukraine. But now almost the whole world is on our side. And no one confuses Ukrainians with anyone else. And even children of foreigners know about the country.
Але вчора, перечитуючи свою улюблену книгу, я від несподіванки раптом наче була збита поривом вітру з ніг. У тексті трапилася фраза, що в 1945-му році російська армія здобула перемогу над фашистською Німеччиною. Як же так? І це пише колишня ув'язнена Аушвіцу, угорська єврейка, яка пройшла через пекло концтаборів, вижила, емігрувала у Штати і стала всесвітньо відомим лікарем!

Настрій зіпсовано. Думки полетіли кудись не туди. В давні часи, до дитячих розпитів у батьків про ту страшну війну. Тоді я знала, що мій дідусь із Чернігівщини воював на фронті. Та що дідусь! Вся Україна чекала на своїх чоловіків, що пішли воювати проти фашистів. Багато хто так і не дочекався. І книжка зараз мені каже про перемогу російської армії. Гм... Гарно ж совєти у свій час прополоскали всьому світу мізки!
І зараз їх пропаганда діє так само безсовісно і брехливо. Добре, що світ вже побачив, на що здатен авторитарний російський імперський режим. Карикатура років Другої світової війни зараз актуальна точно так само.
Історія - наше все. Правда за нами, і рано чи пізно світ перестане писати нав'язану маячню про те, чия де армія здобула перемогу.
The mood is spoiled. Thoughts flew somewhere wrong. In ancient times, before children asked their parents about that terrible war. Then I knew that my grandfather from Chernihiv region fought at the front. What about grandfather! All of Ukraine was waiting for its men who went to fight against the fascists. Many did not wait. And the book now tells me about the victory of the Russian army. Um... It's a good thing that the Soviets once brainwashed the whole world!
And now their propaganda is just as unscrupulous and lying. It is good that the world has already seen what the authoritarian Russian imperial regime is capable of. The caricature of the years of World War II is just as relevant now.
History is our everything. The truth is with us, and sooner or later the world will stop writing the imposed delusion about whose army won the victory.
