У Полтавській області, на березі річки Ворскли знаходиться тихе й патріархальне містечко Кобеляки. Якраз в цій місцевості у вищевказану річку впадає інша - Кобелячка, що і пояснює назву містечка.

Вперше на мапі Кобеляки з'явилися приблизно у 1632 році. Тоді ці землі були причиною суперечки між Юрієм Немирічем та магнатами Потоцькими. Останні зрештою витіснили конкурента.

В період Гетьманщини Кобеляки стали сотенним центром Полтавського полку, а після підписання союзу із Московією, містечко стає опорним пунктом в боротьбі проти татар. У цей час влада знову переходить до магната Юрію Немиріча, який перейшовши на бік козаків приймає православну віру. За це Богдан Хмельницький дозволяє йому отримувати додаткові доходи із контрольованої місцини. В той час у Кобеляках була укріплена фортеця, яка на жаль не зберіглася до наших днів.
During the Hetmanate Kobeliaky became the hundredth center of the Poltava regiment, and after signing an alliance with Muscovy, the town became a stronghold in the struggle against the Tatars. For this, Bohdan Khmelnytsky allows him to receive additional income from a controlled place. At that time, a fortress was fortified in Kobeliaky, which unfortunately has not survived to this day.
Природно через це містечко прокотилися все хвилі воєн і революцій. Кобеляки випробували на собі і час боротьби з більшовизмом в двадцятих роках минулого століття, і час «червоного терору» і окупацію фашистами під час Другої світової війни.

Зараз, як я вже писав, Кобеляки тихий районний центр, що знаходиться на шляху з Дніпра до Києва. Недалеко будується нова дорога, яка можливо пожвавить цю місцевість. А можливо їй (місцевості) і не потрібно це «пожвавлення».
