Rick Sanchez was the smartest man in the universe.

He thought he could beat anyone at anything... until he met Simbacorn!

Half-lion, half-unicorn, 100% lethal cuteness, Simbacorn challenged Rick to a battle of wills in the legendary card game, Magic: The Gathering.

Rick laughed in Simba's face. A man who can turn himself into a pickle need not bother with random card games.

But Simbacorn was smarter than Rick gave him credit for, and he knew exactly how to get Mr. Sanchez to play.

So Simba used his cuteness to lure Beth, Jerry, Summer, and Morty to his lair, then told Rick they'd been kidnapped, and the only way to get them back was to beat him at Magic.

Rick considered combing the multiverse to find them, but figured...

Whipping this kawaii freak at his own game would be more satisfying.

So Rick took the bait.

And thus began, The Most Impressive High-Stakes Nail-Biting Penultimate 'Magic: The Gathering' Grudge Match Ever Conceived.

The above photo seems to have been arranged by a UFC fight promoter of some kind. We're not sure how Rick & Simbacorn ended up side-by-side with their decks like this.

Here you see the spotlight shining on Simbacorn, showing off his pure 'Beanie Baby' lineage and breeding.

And here the spotlight has moved to Rick Sanchez, perched on his throne from Season 4 Episode 2, 'The Old Man And The Seat.'

A close-up on both players hands. We don't have a clear understanding why both hands are visible at all times, perhaps Simbacorn has woven a 'spell-of-no-sight' over the hands, or maybe Rick has some nanotechnology coating ensuring everything remains fair and there's no peeking involved. Either way, it's a blessing for onlookers such as ourselves.

You could hack through the tension in the air with a machete as Simba & Rick mug for the camera before the first play.

Here we see both players with two lands out, but Rick's deck --meant to sprint towards victory with fast board development-- has shockingly zero creatures in play and zero spells cast so far. Simbacorn on the other hand is off to an auspicious start.

So what happens? How does our story end?

Unfortunately, our CC TV stopped working just as the game began. (Did Rick have an E.M.P. in his jacket? Did Simbacorn cast some tech-disrupting unicorn spells?)

Our camera coverage cut out, and we're with an interesting situation. It looks as if Rick had a terrible hand and had deliberately chosen not to mulligan. It looks as if his speedy direct-damage deck was actually being outpaced and out-developed by Simba's supposedly slow control-deck. It looks as if the smartest man in the universe was actually off to a brutal start, and very likely to lose.

Things looked grim for Rick.

But, he's turned the tables on many opponents in the past, and often takes counter-intuitive approaches towards victory, so is it possible that looks are deceiving? Does Rick have a trick up his sleeve? Is Simbacorn cheating? Or just thinking more moves ahead? Is it simply the luck of the cards?

Here's your chance to speak up, how would you end this story?

Do Rick & Simbacorn become bitter enemies? Friends? Is there a bigger plot going on? Mysterious figures pulling the strings? Does something else happen instead?

Creía que podía vencer a cualquiera en cualquier cosa... ¡hasta que conoció a Simbacorn!
