One thing that some people fail to realise is the fact that it is the present that creates the pathway for the future. A lot of people are only concerned about the future but they do not know that it is after they have maximized the present that the desired future will arrive. The kind of future you want to have should determine the kind of action you put in the present. I remember when we were in school, during the start of the semester, many people will be "burning their midnight candles" to study, while others will be whiling away time. But when exams comes, the difference will be clear, because it will become a walkover for those that have prepared for it, while those that did not prepare for it will have themselves to blame. It is true that everyone wants a great future, but one thing to bear in mind is that you have a responsibility to work it out yourself and pay the price. It is only when the price is pain that you become entitled to earn the prize. It is worth noting that "now" is the most appropriate and best time to start to build your future. If you wait until an appropriate time, you may not prepare for the future, and of course, having a great future is not a gift but a product of work and preparation. Some people believe that luck plays a part in forming the future, but luck makes more sense if it is prepared for. More so, what Some people regard as luck is just the reward of the works they have put in the time past. You may have a choice of your present moment, but know that your future will be dependent and influenced by that choice. So make a good choice of action. What you are seeing today are basically the results of the actions that you took in your yesterdays, and of course you do not have a choice of the result. This is just like a farmer that has planted corn and want to harvest cassava. It will not be possible because he did not plant cassava, so he will be stuck with corn. However, if he wants to harvest cassava in the next harvest season, he will have to plant cassava in this planting season. In the same way, what you want to see in the future should form the basis of your actions today. It is either you pay the price to undertake the right actions today and enjoy the prize tomorrow, or you skip the price and regret later. Two pains are known to humans which are mutually exclusive: the pain of putting in extensive work in the present so as to secure a great tomorrow, and the pain of regret. The choice of the first will prevent the appearance of the second, but to avoid the first means to subscribe for the second. The choice is yours. Many people we see as successful people today had to put in extensive amount of work in the past to get to the level at which they are now, yet some people attribute it to luck. If having a great tomorrow answers to wish, then everyone would have it on a platter of gold. Always remember that a good soldier does not have to wait until the day of the battle to learn how to shoot gun, he learns it and lives ready against the day of battle, otherwise he will become a cheap victim of battle. This reminds me of the statement made by one of my friends sometimes ago: > It is better to be a warrior in the farm than to be a farmer in the war.
