Hoy toca el #19 del Blogging Challenge, Una confesión. Estuve pensando mucho acerca de que contarles pero me decidí por esta experiencia porque siento que es algo que me hizo crecer mucho.
Today is # 19 of the Blogging Challenge, A Confession. I was thinking a lot about what to tell you but I decided on this experience because I feel that it is something that made me grow a lot.
Hace algunos años, era demasiado ingenuo. Pensaba que solo el talento me bastaba para llegar lejos.
A few years ago, I was too naive. I thought that only talent was enough to go far.
En la orquesta era el que más rápido aprendía porque tenía buen oído, y aprendía todo de oído, en la lectura musical si era más lento, pero poco a poco me las arregle para aprender también, por lo que me colocaron como principal de la fila de violas.
In the orchestra I was the one who learned the fastest because I had a good ear, and I learned everything by ear, in music reading if it was slower, but little by little I managed to learn as well, so they placed me as the head of the line of violas.
Pero poco estudiaba para mejorar mi técnica y ejecución. Siempre confié en que mi aprendizaje me serviría para todo.
But I studied little to improve my technique and execution. I always trusted that my learning would serve me well.
Hasta que llego un momento en que todo el mundo había avanzado un montón y yo estaba estancado, lo que no sabía es que había sido mi propia culpa.
Until there came a time when everyone had advanced a lot and I was stuck, what I didn't know was that it had been my own fault.
Comencé a ir a clases en la sede del Sistema de orquestas de Maracay, Estado Aragua. Y poco a poco me di cuenta de que estaba haciendo las cosas mal, que todos los que estaban a mi alrededor habían trabajado mucho más que yo para llegar hasta allí.
I started going to classes at the headquarters of the Maracay Orchestra System, Aragua State. And little by little I realized that I was doing things wrong, that everyone around me had worked much harder than me to get there.
Me dije que tenía que aprovechar ese talento y que debía trabajar igual de fuerte que ellos, tenía que ganarme mi puesto igual como se debía, no era justo para mi estar en un lugar así tan fresco mientras ellos habían puesto tanto sudor y ganas para avanzar.
I told myself that I had to take advantage of that talent and that I had to work as hard as they did, I had to earn my position as well as I should, it was not fair for me to be in such a cool place while they had put so much sweat and desire to advance .
Estuve un tiempo trabajando en mi nivel, incluso estuve esforzándome para entrar en la escuela nacional de Viola, ensayando desde la mañana hasta la noche, pero por motivos económicos me tuve que retirar. Comencé a trabajar en un negocio de 7am a 8pm y tuve que dejar la orquesta.
I was working at my level for a while, I was even struggling to get into the Viola National School, rehearsing from morning to night, but for financial reasons I had to retire. I started working in a business from 7am to 8pm and I had to leave the orchestra.
Aunque quiero retomar el instrumento hay factores que me frenan, como las cuerdas que están vencidas y casi no suenan, y las cerdas del arco que están vencidas también.
Although I want to take up the instrument, there are factors that hold me back, such as the strings that are expired and hardly sound, and the bristles of the bow that are expired as well.
Pero en cuanto tenga la oportunidad le echo mano para comenzar de nuevo desde cero, sin esas falsas ilusiones de que todo estará bien si no estudio, nada cae del cielo, hay que trabajar por los sueños.
But as soon as I have the opportunity, I will help you to start over from scratch, without those false illusions that everything will be fine if I don't study, nothing falls from the sky, you have to work for dreams.
Y de todo esto, siento que aprendí mucho, sufrí bastante en el camino, pero me di cuenta de que mi educación no había sido la mejor, hay cosas que mis padres no me supieron enseñar, y son cosas que tengo que cambiar al momento de criar a mis hijos.
And from all this, I feel that I learned a lot, I suffered a lot along the way, but I realized that my education had not been the best, there are things that my parents did not know how to teach me, and they are things that I have to change at the moment of raise my children.
