Bonsai is pure art, the art of caring for and styling a miniature version of an actually mature tree in a small pot. The word "bonsai" comes from the Japanese language and means plant or tree in a tray. I am considering taking on this new to me but otherwise ancient hobby so I popped into a London based glass house for a closer look. Bonsai have been cultivated in China for over 1000 years but are nowadays associated more with Japan. Here in England bonsai grow happily indoors with windows left open in spring, summer and autumn.

The whole idea is that the tiny bonsai has to hold all the beauty and characteristics of its fully-grown counterpart. It has a front and back with more foliage left behind as it creates magnificent depth.
