Visiting Ngarai Sianok, West Sumatra

Sianok Canyon is located in West Sumatra, precisely in the city of Bukit Tinggi. In West Sumatra tribal language, this canyon is a valley. Because Sianok Canyon is in a valley above which there are hills with trees growing on these rocky hills. Beneath the hills is the Sianok Valley or Canyon and in the Sianok Canyon there is a flowing river whose water is dark brown. And do you know why the water in this river is such a dark brown color? even though the surrounding area is hilly and usually the river is clear. The reason why the Sianok River is brown is because this river flow was exposed to cold lava flows from Mount Padang which had just erupted, so that the cold lava flood from Mount Padang was contaminated into this river.

Even though the river is not for bathing at this time, the view in the Sianok canyon is very beautiful. This place is very calm and there are many cafes in Ngarai Sianok that offer a variety of menus. From various media that I have seen in Ngarai Sianok, every year in this place there are changes in facilities for more mature tourist destinations by following many developments in accordance with market demands, especially millennials or now often called Generation Z. love collecting their photos and showing them off on their social media.

There were several interesting photo spots that caught my attention and I tried to take photos in this place, and oh yes, the buffalo symbol that you see in Ngarai Sianok is a real buffalo head as the pride of the tribes in West Sumatra and a symbol of good luck for them. And returning to the river, actually if the water is clear, this river is very beautiful and the water is not high so children can play in the river without fear of being swept away. However, even so, we have to be alert because what is feared is what if a flood of cold lava suddenly comes and becomes a major flood.

Usually I like water, but because I know the story of the river, I try to be safe by just looking at the scenery near Sianok Canyon, breathing in as much air as I am too tired from driving and the hot air that I have felt since morning in the city. Bukit Tinggi is quite hot. In the Sianok Valley, everything feels peaceful and oh yes, there is no fee to enjoy the view here unless you enjoy the menu at the café around the canyon. and there are many menus to choose from at Ngarai Sianok with many types of Cafés available, you just have to choose according to what you want.

Or if you don't want a café menu, you can bring food and drinks from outside and spread out a mat on the river bank. No one will be angry and that is permissible as long as you throw the rubbish in the right place afterwards. So if you want to see volcanic remains in the form of cold lava, come to the Ngarai Sianok river, and oh yes, in this area there is also a replica of the Great Wall of China which has a very good view.

To cross the Chinese wall we need extra energy. because we have to climb a lot of stairs. Tired indeed but very beautiful and there is satisfaction in our hearts if we are at the bottom of the valley. That's all my story in the Ngarai Sianok Valley. Thank you for reading my post. have a nice day. Greetings from me Tomidiwirja from Indonesia.
